Title: What is your most recent step?
Post by: Marcieelizabeth on May 08, 2018, 08:01:33 PM
Hey Ladies -

I am relatively new to this transitioning thing.  It has only been 11 months since I figured me out, and only 6 months on HRT.  It seems I am constantly needing to look forward to another step to try to stay sane!  Recently it was wearing a bit of make up everyday...I put on foundation and very light mascara daily.  It makes me feel feminine and as if I am making progress!

So what is your most recent step?

Does it ever just become me, normal me?  When did it become just you...no more changes needed.  I want that daily, but I know I am not yet fully Marcie.  I think it was Jenny in her book that wrote...I used to really think wow! I have breasts...now its like, oh yeah I am a woman, I have breasts, of course...

SO have at it!  Let us know what is going on with you and your progress!

Love and Hugs, Marcie

There is always (at least for me) that tiny little voice in the back of the head that 'remembers' when things were different.  I'm just me, living life.. struggles, hardships, and rewards.  Living as who & what I am, no holds barred, all the steps to be taken have long since been taken.   People see me as me, even more importantly to me. (as strange as that sounds coming out).

This is a journey with many paths to the side and steps up the hill off in the foggy distance.  Where yours ends is whatever path you choose to take :)  May you find a warm house filled with happiness at YOUR journey's completion, wherever & whatever that is.

My first step was perfume.  It really reduces my dysphoria too.  Then start donating your boy clothes.  I have almost zero boy clothes now.  I have a nice suit that is about it.  Like you I also wear light makeup.  I wear tinted moisturizer, eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush and lipstick, no mascara, don't need it.  Another step is to get your ears pierced.  When you've done that subsequent steps of getting more studs, then coordinating your studs to your outfit.  Then of course graduating to dangly earrings.  I haven't done that yet.  Of course don't forget about weight loss and electrolysis. Both of these are ongoing for me.  Another is no more wallets, get a purse.  Oh, one I did early on was getting androgynous shoes.  Then I donated all my boy shoes.  I did a major step of restoring my hairline just a month ago. I really don't want to wear a wig, so this is impt for me.  Then of course are the various coming outs and name changes. Whew, enough yet?

Good luck!  I hope these give you ideas.  I'll be watching the thread too, as I'm always looking for ways to push the envelope slowly during my transition.

The latest transition step I've taken was in December 2017, changing my gender on all my identity documents. I'm legally female in all regards.

Probably the last step I accomplished was in Sep 2015 when I had my birth certificate changed. Shortly after due to the continue deterioration of my marriage and out right abuse I moved back in with my parents to finish school. Life pretty much stabilized at some point after that and no one would know I'm trans, if it weren't for my big mouth pretty much telling any and everyone that I know. I like being out and proud about it though, and like to think I've taught quite a few people about trans issues. I was even in a documentary about trans veterans that won an award at this semesters CUNY film festival. The biggest secret I've found to happiness the past few years has been accepting myself for myself. I'm gearing up for a huge step soon once everything gets figured out with scheduling.

Edit: If anyone was interested in the film my friend Lauren shot it and the link is https://vimeo.com/247495373 password is Katherine

Most in the place I am would say GCS, which was just over six months ago. But really I'd say I finished becoming me when I finished my social transition, the last step of which was at work. No more double life! Surgery was important, sure, even essential. But it was more like getting rid of a cancer, not something that changed who I was.

I went to the movies dressed as a woman recently and that was lovely :)

I relate to exactly the feeling you mean though. Now that I know I do not feel like a woman, I want to... so when I don't have a project in the works to keep moving, I get antsy.

Latest step it seems, is that I guess I´m winning my battle with our gender clinic. About two months ago I told them to go where the sun doesn´t shine, literally, when they started asking the psychiatric questions and what I felt, basically treating me like mad.

I decided to take care myself, by myself.

Now, I got a call from chief physician who asked how I am doing. I told her, that I´m getting GCS in Thailand in two months and after that, I guess I will move to Norway so that I can get my gender confirmed.

The chief physician told, that there is no need to go to Norway, they will help me to get my gender confirmed. And she also promised, that I don´t need to answer anymore questions, that I don´t like.

So, I guess I won this battle  :D

Glad to hear you're getting the help you need, that's awesome.   One of my nursing instructors told me something decades ago that stuck with me.. "Pick your battles". Some battles aren't worth the mental energy & stress load expended, while others can benefit you greatly.  Sounds like this was a battle that was chosen that worked in your favor.

Hi Marcie,

I have finally taken an important step or part of one. I turned in the forms and paid the money required by the county to get a name change. I'm waiting for a court date. Prior to that I guess it was going full time and that was almost a year ago on my first road trip.  Some things just take some time to do.

Hugs,

Hey, Marcie!

Today I actually wore a bra with a NuBra look-a-like.  Felt like a side-step, but there were some small victories in it!  Just because I still can't figure out makeup like all you ladies >.<  So, I look very 'ugh' but with a 'ohh' chest lol

No serious, these things aren't much and I got like a A36 bra and it just looks massive from the side, idk

I just recently got everything with work squared away, so I can take 2 months off for VFS - my job requires a LOT of talking so I am taking the extra month. I just need to get past this cough I've been stuck with since March and then I can schedule (:

I think there will always be things about yourself that you wish you could change. Personally, I think the most things are to be able to be able to love yourself and to have a partner who fully loves you and treated you the way you deserve. I don't think it was until I met my partner that I really, truly just saw me as me.

Not sure if that helps :P

I am very early in my transition so these might seem minor haha but I go to work with my toenails painted...no more boxers...and I take a backpack with me to work and everywhere that is serving as a surrogate purse I guess. I keep lotion, chapstick, etc in there. Small stuff but it meant quite a bit to me.

That's great to hear, Alyssa!  The surrogate backpack is a great idea! I haven't even thought about a purse or if I'd have one when I'm full-time, but I suppose that would be a really good indicator of female for most on-lookers, eh?  My old school duffle bag acts as my purse right now at home. I don't move it, and my wife hasn't ever touched it in over 7 years, so I am not too worried about her discovering all of my product.

It may be small Alyssa, but I think it's a great step in the right direction! It's like a small feminization step of your belongings and not just you, physically, y'know? I mean, you could throw out all your guy clothes and stuff like that, but that's too sudden, too abrupt to be healthy. For me, once I can finally do my makeup properly, I plan to get some gender-neutral clothing and test how people react to me. Then if things go well with that, I think I'll want to take the plunge into some actual girly clothing.

But it's pretty hard, I think, to wear any actual girl clothes until on HRT for at least a little bit. >.<

What has been my most recent step....good question. I am still working through electrolysis but hopefully in the next few months that will be a thing of the past. Just had a second and final round of hair transplanting done. It has been nearly 8 moths since GCS and the healing is virtually complete. My boobs stopped growing a while ago, or at least slowed way down but I hope that I never get to the point of taking them for granted.

I think my biggest step has been going full time more than a year and a half ago. Since then life just progresses on and I spend far more time just being me than thinking about being me, not sure if that makes since but it is a huge realization. I have been on Susan's for just under 2 years and at that time the idea of spending days at a time just living as me without even thinking about how long ago this became normal. Before you know it, you will realize that transitioning or being read or WTH am I doing.....will not even be a thought in your head. But while you are waiting, enjoy the ride!

By the way, my most recent step was buying my wedding dress a week ago!

Okay so this is probably the most amazing step ever!!! Congratulations and I wanna see!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to get to the point where I can enjoy where I am instead of obsessing over transitioning 24/7.

I had my ears pierced yesterday. I went to this lady who usually pierces babies' ears and she was really sweet and tender. She numbed my earlobe with ice packs and it didn't hurt a thing! I'm so happy I'm finally able to wear earrings!

Earrings were my break through step about a month and a half ago, it truly is an amazing, affirming thing for some reason.

My most recent step... well, let's see. Would have to be spending a good portion of time around family presenting female. That or the hair transplants scheduled.

After a month being full time (pre-everything) I went for breakfast with my stepsister. It was the first time I saw someone who knows me as male. It went very good and she also gave me clothes, makeup and jewelry. I am very happy of this step. She also told me I was beautiful and she is jealous of my almond eyes and big lips. What a nice day for me.

It's incredible how much the acceptance and love we feel from another person can boost us up! So awesome!

I love this sort of thing! I have done makeovers with some of the girls from work but always in somebody's home. Going out with the girls in public sounds great!

As for myself, I ordered an exercise bike online today so I can burn some calories and hopefully slim my belly down a little. I wanted to exercise without necessarily increasing strength and this seemed like a decent compromise.

Such a great question!   It is definitely quite a unique journey, and everyones journey is different, but I have learned how similar almost every single transwoman is.  For me, it started out a few years ago starting to ad more and more women's clothing to my wardrobe.  Womens clothing that I could wear as a feme dressing man.  Then after HRT made some changes to me after 7.5 months, I all of a sudden became much more comfortable actually wearing my wig in public and dressing even more female.  I started out presenting only on the weekends when my wife and I would travel to another city away from anyone we know.  That went so well, that it was easy for me to begin presenting as female a couple more days per week, till really soon I reached a point of presenting as female every single day.  That felt so amazing! Shortly after starting HRT, I also started laser hair removal treatments on my face.  And that has been one of the greatest choices ever since it eleminates that pesky beard shaddow that gives us all away so easily.  It's sad that it doesn't matter how feminine the rest of us look, if that damn beard and mustache shaddow is visibile, it tends to scream "I am a man!!!" So I feel SOOOOO much better about myself and my ability to "pass" now that that is gone.  But then my driver's license did not match who I was.  So that is the most recent step I took just a couple days ago.  Getting my driver's license updated with a new picture, and the correct gender on it.  Now I feel almost complete.  Aside from bottom surgery which is an absolute must for me!  Many transwomen are fine with keeping there penis.  I most definitely am not one of them!!!  That thing has GOT to go!   That for me will be the final step.  Besides that, my voice is going to be one of the next things I really tackle.  Now that I am presenting full time, my voice has become my biggest hangup.  I am not opposed to vocal chord surgery, but my insurance will not cover it.  So it's up to me to practice and get vocal training to be able to talk more feminine.

My most recent step was getting all my things in order for my GRS in a couple of months. If you haven't looked into it in detail, you might not know just how much of a hassle and stressful thing it is to arrange. I had to wait more than two years after putting my name on the waitlist, and had to jump from therapist to therapist to get my letters of recommendation, since many of them were just completely incompetent. Also, don't forget about the months and months of hair removal. Worth it, but a huge pain.

Finding a doctor who would see an orchi as medically nessasacy so my insurance would cover it. I've also started to feel more comfortable using the ladies rest room. The mens room lost all comfort a long time ago. Its not easy avoiding public bathrooms.  :(

Well, I definitely won my battle with the gender clinic. Had a phone meeting with the chief physician. I will get the diagnose during June and legal recognition of my gender during August. In between, I stop in Thailand to have the GCS.

So, it seems that my process is nearing it´s end and it went much much more quickly than I anticipated even in my wildest dreams.

And with ending of the process I mean the end of legal and psychiatric struggle. Of course the hormones continues the process till the future and there is a lot to process and adjust after GCS, but that should be the fun part...the pulling of the teeth part is nearing it´s end.

Thank you!  Mine specifically states it cover FFS, and, yet, I still had to appeal because they denied a couple of the procedures saying they were cosmetic.  I won.  I think in time they will all cover it, it is just hard for us right now.  I hope yours changes theirs.  My previous employer did not cover srs and i lobbied for them to add it and after two years they did. :) (of course, AFTER I had already paid out of pocket for mine lol)

Crossed a big milestone in my weight loss, which I'm holding as a prelude to anything else.

I started at 450+ and I'm down to 298, over 150 pounds lost. My first goal is 200, and my ultimate goal is 150.

I really feel like I can do this.

I've been able to get away with womens dress pants for about a year around the wife, but in the last 2 weeks I've also gone to wearing her old tops as well now. It's getting there! Got a strange look the first time, but I'm wearing her down

Samantha, incredible accomplishment.  I know at least partially how difficult this can be, I lost 80 lb / 35 kg a couple decades ago, more since then and have kept it off.  In addition to the obvious benefits, your knees and spine will thank you.

I love this thread.
I'm a member of another site and I used to ask the girls in chat this same question and loved to hear the responses.  Some of the steps are minor and some are major milestones.  It's good to share as long as you are comfortable with it.  Small steps and forward progress is what makes me happy.

Missing my first appointment to start HRT, that took two months to schedule, because I remembered the wrong time of day to show up for it.  Grrr...

Missed the second one too, due to a miscommunication!   ???  >:(

However, went to a different place and started on the 18th.   ;D

Congrats Sarah!  Big step.

Continuing facial electrolysis and starting to pre clear (down there) in anticipation of GRS.  Completed RLE timers a while ago and just enjoyed the view there for a bit.  Now getting ready to start my surgical phase of transition.

This is a neat thread as it can help us to look back on steps already taken as well as glimpses into places we strive to walk.

Lol have done Progynon Depot in the past and over the course of repeated alternate left/right buttocks injections have found the site muscles wear down, tend to "leak". Never done arm or thigh each requires different lenght "point".

Since been maintaining with Estrofem tabs recently changed to Progynova tabs (a 'bio-estradiol precursive'?) they're less expensive and anxious to see if better, more noticeable results?

Am curious how many rely on insurance for transition expenses as opposed to self-finance, paying "cash"? "Ex" has been pushing for me to go to a proper trans/gay hairdresser - as opposed to standard androgynous 'ponytail' - unsure if ready for THAT!

lol So my most 'recent step' would be her actually pushing/encouraging ?

I paid for most of mine out of pocket, but only because my previous employer excluded trans care from our insurance.  My new employer pays for everything, so I am all in with insurance paying the way.  I just got them to cover electrolysis and got pre-authorized for FFS, for example.

My insurance offered through my company has been covering the medical portion without issue.  I have already discussed surgeries with my advocate and they appear to be covered as well.  I have been paying out of pocket for my therapists though as I really do view them as an asset and I want them to be right for me.

Harley, I am about the same point time wise and Nanci will be getting to my lip soon. She has removed a few hairs from the lip but the nerves in the area also seem to be connected to the teeth and that is where most my pain manifests. Unfortunately she can't do a full zap on me because of my myriad of medical problems.

Hi Ladies - I love how this has taken on a life of its own!  My latest step(s) are

to come out to my Daughter and Son, with one daughter to go yet!  It has been so good to be able to be more open about who I am!  It has also to this point helped with my wife a little bit as she is not on me all the time worried about the kids figuring it out!

Also I went to my endo this week, my E was low...ha;lf what it was despite raising my E intake with the patch three months ago.  So I am switching to pills!  I am hoping that there is not really an increased risk of heart and stroke issues (at least not for me!).   After just taking pills ponce my nipples hurt more than they have so far.

I am still needing all the steps I can muster to keep my spirits up!  This is SO HARD!  Hoping all you ladies are able to keep things going in the right direction!

Love and hugs, Marcie

Hi Marcie!
Last week was a very big week for me. I came out to everyone including FB. I was so stressed about it but it turned out I was stressed over nothing. Much to my amazement, everyone was so positive. Next week I start electrolysis and feminine voice therapy. Next month marks 1 year on HRT and I will be meeting with my therapist to begin my RLE and start the process for GCS. I am soooo happy and alive. Oh yes, I finally found my perfect bra lol. I still have another year to go before completion, if that is possible. I mean there is always FFS, breast augmentation surgery etc... It's a long road Marcie and for me a very rewarding one. I hope you fine the road very rewarding too. A quick note to Doreen, I love your profile photo girl. I think all of us at one time or another fine ourselves walking on egg shells  :).

This weekend I got a few new things -guy things unfortunately, but I decided to try something.

I have had a lot of problems with my legs related to injuries I suffered while in wrestling and my weight. I had cellulitis, a long-running infection that infects the fat in my legs. Being the size I was, it can be quite painful. It's lowered significantly since I started losing weight. Another side effect of it is that cuts opened up easily and healed slowly. Well, since I started losing my weight (Which is continuing well, I'm at 277 now, down 5 pounds from last week, about 25 or so since I last updated this thread) my legs had entirely healed up, no more sores or anything.

Because of how my legs looked with constant cuts, I haven't worn shorts or gone swimming in about 15 years.

This weekend I bought a pair of shorts, and a pair of swim trunks. on Sunday I went to the pool for the first time. Despite my fears I got in, no shirt, and went swimming for the first time since high school.

I just swam across the pool. I can't really "Swim", the pool's not big and it was busy, but I crossed laps in the pool however I could for about 30 minutes. It's a nice change of pace from working out on the treadmill! No one said a word about my legs or my body which has been a great confidence boost.

I went again today and with it being a lil less busy I was able to go for about 40 minutes. Best single workout I've had - over 700 calories burned (I also walked the treadmill for 350 or so calories, overall the best workout day I've ever had. I nearly burned as much as I ate!).

In my mind, I'm imagining that this is a little step toward dressing the way I want to dress... one day, I don't want to be stuck in long outfits.. I want to be able to wear anything my body will hold and will look good, and be appropriate for me... I'm realistic, I'm 37, no micro mini skirts or anything for me. But above the knee? Yes. I want to be able to do that. and while it's minor... it's a step toward being me.

My most recent step is waiting.  I'm doing a lot of that.

My doctor referred me to a psychiatrist for my second GRS letter back in September.  I called the shrink's office a couple of months ago to confirm I am still on the waiting list, and I am.  Naturally, trans folks who are stable are triaged well below people in crisis.  I just hope I am gradually moving up the list.

Also waiting for my two years of RLE so I can change my gender on my birth certificate.  Where I live, there is no provision for changing one's gender separately on government documents like driver's license or health card.  You have to change your birth certificate first.  So I wait.  One more year to go.

The most recent thing that was actually progress was my name change, which became official a year ago Tuesday.

SRS done, 10th day post-op  :)

Only thing left is legal gender change which should happen within next 6 months.

Then things where I have to rely to shrinks is done and I can just forget them.

Laser hair removal will of course continue till who knows how long and I´m really on fence about trachea shave.

But major things are done, rest is just maintenance  ;D

WELL...

I allowed my wife to tell her one sister, you know the one that is a little different an=bout me...I was not there, but it will give my wife more support.  I feel totally weird about this.  This one I had no hand in.  Karen my wife said she is just confused, well duh!  I hope my sister-in-law will now talk to me about this and learn! And most of all accept me for who I am.. Thoughts, and prayers accepted...this is my NEXT STEP!  Keep up the good work Ladies!

A huge step in coming out, Marcie!  I found that once the second level revelations start, there is nothing left to leave closeted...not that we should have ever had to closet ourselves.  Well, congrats!

My most recent step was cross dressing complete with padded and bra and fillers and I felt great! Can't wait to do it again but I feel like some things missing in the mean time. The only thing stopping me now is that I'll have to come out to my siblings before I can dress more regularly.

I had my packing and catheter removed today

That first dilation was an interesting experience after having several feet of packing taken out.

Being able to sleep any way but on my back is an amazing thing for sure.

The whole time that my surgeon was pulling packing he was joking around saying "I don't remember putting this much in there". It's amazing how much he managed to jam in there.

I will begin working august 6th as the true me Sabrina. I feel nervous because it is the first time I work in female clothes. I hope everything will go well in my new job. I am so proud of me getting my highest paid job ever! The most difficults thing will be to dress properly and also the beard management. I am so eager and by the same time so scared. I think they wouldn't have hired me if they don't know all that.

Thank you to all of you for reading and great support.

Sabrina!!  You'll do great.  Major milestone and a challenge, but in a way you can think of this as easier than all those years living in a role that didn't quite feel right for you.  You will soon look back at August 6 as the start of something amazing.

I wanted to gets this going again!  I know we are all still taking new steps to becoming who we really are!   I am in the middle of a lull, waiting to get past a couple of family weddings and trying not to be the center of attention at them so it will be a month before I can take any large steps, but I have to say that I have taken a couple of steps recently one large and important, others not so much so.

I video skyped my older daughter to finally tell her what was going on.  She was THE MOST ACCEPTING AND SUPPORTIVE PERSON when I told her, said she was proud of me, thanked me, then she later said it will take time to get back to where she was...she was mourning the loss of the Dad she knew and the future thoughts she had of how life would be. SHe is a Psychologist so I think she was doing her psychology thing at first, but we are still loving one anbopther and that is what counts!

Also I am investigating bottom surgery - I really cannot wait for that and have discussed the steps to make the gender maker and name changes and to list when and how I will proceed form here...That has been so helpful!

Thanks all for sharing - let's keep this going!

Lots of hugs and Love,

Marcie

I officially started on HRT today! Got my very first injection of E earlier today! I'm very happy, it's almost as if I felt the medication surge throughout my body [emoji846] I can't stop smiling today, I wonder why? Could it have to do with the fact that I've known this to be what I've wanted since the age of 17? When I discovered what the name for my feelings is. [emoji846][emoji846][emoji846]

Right now I'm just so happy in general, the only worry that I have now is coming out to my family. That is the next step that I'm gathering courage for. Doctor said that I have about 6 months before they really begin to notice without me telling them. I will keep y'all updated [emoji846]

My most recent step was coming out to someone.  My therapist is helping me build up the courage to come out to others, but that is a work-in-progress.  I'm planning to start HRT in a few months.  I've already got the letter from my therapist to begin taking hormones.  Now I'm just waiting until I can get on my employer's health insurance.

My most recent step is not at all related to transitioning but I have decided to no longer wear my mastectomy prostheses.

So I kissed the gel boobies away and decided that I should be happy with what I have naturally. And to top it of I went to Victoria Secret to celebrate my decision and have a booby measuring fitting day.

Yeah, I am 38C. :)

Of course I did buy 3 lovely bra's and got a free shoulder/hand bag. <3

- have almost fully 100% accepted the idea that im transgender, this took alot as you know from my winging at the start of this year/end of last year, sorry about that, i barely think of myself as a guy anymore and i feel happier for it

- talked to my GP about transitioning (HE KNOWS!!!!)

- Got Called Ma'am today, thanks to like having grown my hair out really long all year (atleast longest ive ever grown it)

- going to start with a proper gender therapist soon, still continuing with my psychologist

I've hydrated well.  Got the lidocaine.  A bit nervous!

Starting brave with the upper lip. Chin as a backup spot.

Go Jessica Go! If your appointment is in two hours, I'm guess already have the lidocaine on your upper lip. Don't skimp on the lidocaine. They tend to venture off the treated areas on occasion.

Dear Jess:
Calm down.... Yes, you will be fine....  actually the electrolysis is not near as bad as going to the dentist to get a cavity filled or especially a tooth extracted.

Hang in there, you will be OK, perhaps a little sore when the lidocaine wears off but it will be worth the discomfort as you continue on.  Once you get home perhaps a stiff adult beverage would be in order.... just as long as you are not on any contradicted medications of course.

How many appointments/treatments are tentatively planned for you???
I will be looking for your recap of your hair removal session.
Hugs and well wishes,
Danielle

No I tried spiro at the start but im one of the people that have severe side effects from it , depression, panic and anxiety attacks, suicidal thoughts and ended up in the hospital with severe dehydration and some other issues from. I was on it for about 3 weeks.

At that point I knew that it wasn't for me and I would try Estrogen only hrt, my endo said it just takes a lot longer to get the T down. I started hrt may 2017 my T was 546ng/dl  freeT was 7 , now after all this time T is 325 Free 1.2  estrogen is at 136pg/ml

Figured get the orchi and it should be easier moving forward

Hi Danielle, your right!  It really wasn't bad.  I found myself sometimes relaxed enough to be moving with the music that was on (classic rock), after all I am a California girl.
I had an hour session today, that's how long the tech suggested.  I now have at least one, sometimes two appointments each week through October.  I've been approved for a year of treatment, and can have that renewed if needed.

I love the quarter size patch of smooth skin, though some will return, but soon to be zapped again.

Shot of Patron Reposado is in order.

Thank you two and everyone else for the support!

Hugs and smiles, Jess 🌸🌸🌸

Dear Jess:
I am so glad to hear that you did better than you originally thought.   You really messed up with your report however, you could have made the case to us and your wife that the pain was unbearable and you were suffering and in tears during the One Hour session today..... then, without reproach, you could have easily bargained for 2 or 3 shots of Patron Reposado.

Thank you for your update report regarding your hair removal session....  your experience will make it that much easier for you future sessions......     then of course, all bets are off if you elect to have hair removal procedures done in your nether areas....  OUCH !!!!!!  After those sessions you may require the entire bottle, not just a shot or two!!!  ;)

Electrolysis from a medical center like Electrolysis 3000 can do this, as they have staff with the medical licenses needed to do injections.  But...  The injections IMHO hurt far worse than the electrolysis for many folks, including me.  (I had numbing injections for a corrective surgery, not electrolysis or transition related, but in the same location.)

Yep, I did this at precision hair removal in Chicago.  That said, nerve field blocks are not 100% perfect so there were a couple spots that did hurt.  We figured out where they were and Dr. Z's anesthesiologist came in and shot those full of local anesthetic later on and we cleared them.  The most painful part was the local to be honest.

I have to say having a vag is pretty neato.

As for my latest step: I got my FFS booked and a consult for bewbies.  They might happen at the same time but I won't know until later.

Congratulations Laurie! Squeee! I can't wait myself.

On another note, I asked my PCP for a prescription for a stronger numbing cream. I haven't tried it yet. I not sure how it's any better? I am currently using a 4% Lidocaine cream. The prescription is only 2.5% Lidocaine but also has 2.5% Prilocaine? Has anybody tried this?

Yes, and it is somewhat stronger.  I applied this mix on the upper lip and covered with plastic wrap an hour before treatment, and it worked well.  There are some other even more potent mixes that a compounding pharmacy can make, but they are not widely used or prescribed as far as I know.  ( @liz has details on at least one of them.)

The mix that was recommended to me is called BLT. No, not the sandwich (nom!), it's a mix of Benzocaine 20%, Lidocaine 6%, and Tetracaine 4%. It's all I've used, so I can't compare the effectiveness. It does have to be prescribed and supplied by a compounding pharmacy.

There's also a product called "Pliaglis" which is Lidocaine 7%, and Tetracaine 7%, and is self-occluding, so no plastic wrap is required. They call it "phase-changing, topical cream Peel technology." I spoke to a bunch of people at various producers and distributors late last year, and after applying my web-fu, I found the website of the company that produces it:

http://www.crescitatherapeutics.com/products/pliaglis/ (http://www.crescitatherapeutics.com/products/pliaglis/)

The company licensed to distribute it in the US is here:

https://www.taro.com/pliaglis (https://www.taro.com/pliaglis)

I found it at GoodRx here:

https://m.goodrx.com/pliaglis?drug-name=pliaglis (https://m.goodrx.com/pliaglis?drug-name=pliaglis).

Goodrx say it's a 100gm tube, which makes it a good deal compared to BLT, which is costing me $58 for 30gm and lasts about 3 months the way I use it. The Taro site, though, says Pliaglis is available in 30gm tubes. I don't know who's right.

When I came out to myself one year ago, I stopped cutting my very short hair. It's now quite messy and reaches my shoulders so I'm making plans to get it styled and dyed. I'm nervous because I've never dyed my hair before. But I'm really excited because changing my hair color feels like another rite of passage.

Hugs to everyone.

You'll love it, Lindy! I've had my hair long for more than 20 years, but had never done anything but brush it back and put it in a ponytail. The first time I got it colored and styled I broke into tears when I saw myself in the mirror, and had the whole salon crying with me.

Go for it!

This is awesome information, thank you for sharing! I've been using the store bought 4% lidocaine while doing electrolysis in my *ahem...  *sensitive areas and I literally cry during those sessions. lol

Hi Miyann,

I'm glad you find it helpful. I know what you're talking about - the first time I tried thermolysis on the South Pole I lasted less than 10 minutes before I was crying on the electrocutioner's shoulder. I'll be trying it for the first time tomorrow with my new torturer, who uses the blend method. We'll see how it goes.

If you (or anyone else) do try Pliaglis, please report back. It sounds interesting, though at 7/7% I don't see how it could be more effective than BLT at 20/6/4%. I like the idea that it's self-occluding, but after almost a year of being Plasti-girl (or as my BFF calls me, "The Vis-Queen"), driving 1:20 to my appointment with plastic wrap on my face is just part of the weekly routine.

Good luck!

Stephanie

That sounds like Emla.  That is what I use.  I have also tried 5% lidocaine, and found that the two are pretty much equal in effectiveness (or lack thereof).  Emla is non-prescription here, but you have to ask for it: it is not on the open shelves.

Dear Faith:
I read about that wonderful and very affirming night on your other thread....
soon you will not be very welcome in the men's restroom... the men's restroom will just become a memory.

Congrats on your second referral letter for GRS Kathy! BTW! Yes, the numbing cream is Emla and it works a little better. My electrolysis told me about the BLT stuff that Stephanie was talking about. I will ask my PCP for a prescription.
