hello lovelies. so i have a query regarding hairstyle for MTF and i have been asking around and getting different answers.
yes, it comes down to what actually suits your shape/body/facial features, whatnots but i want to know your 'when in doubt, go with this.......' hairstyles.
thank you

I've rocked short hair and semi pass you can do a Pixie or a Bob until your hair grows out. I'd recommend seeing an experienced hair stylist they can consult and style it the best for you at each growth stage.

I prefer mid-length so far. Short was fun and easy to work with, but I have curly hair and it starts to look a bit unshapely until it's around your Jaw/Collarbone in my opinion. My "Go-To" is 40s, so I need a bit of length for the look; it is also fun to let the curls bounce a bit... drives the ladies crazy. 😉 I rocked short hair a lot, but it gets boring when you do the same thing every day.
thank you very much for your inputs, Harley Quinn and Nikkimn :D
i'll take note
I don't have enough of my own hair on top to do anything with it. I can't go out without a wig or at least a hat. I keep mine short enough to tuck under a wig, but long enough to show some curls if I wear a hat.
As for wig length, I prefer shorter styles. I think long hair would drive me nuts. My "regular" wig is about collar length. It might be an age thing. You really only see long hair on younger women. If you look at the gray-haired set, most ladies have short hair. Though my wigs are holding their colour very nicely ;) I am rapidly joining the gray-haired set.
What looks best depends on your face structure and skin tone.
Go to a wig salon and try on different lengths and styles.
Up to three years ago I always wore mid length or long wigs. Then one day at a wig salon the stylist said let's try "this shorter one".... My avitar picture shows the short style I wear all the time now.

Some people say that I look more feminine with a short hair style. Yes. Short hair surprisingly can look more feminine than long hair.
Me with short hair (now).

Yes. It is far easier to shampoo and dry short hair, and more expenstive to treat long hair in hair salons.
Nevertheless I will grow again my hair to the shoulders.

I had hair down to the middle of my back in my 30s - maybe my inner woman expressing herself :) So now that I'm transitioning, I'm seizing the opportunity to grow it out again. I haven't cut it for 7 months and it's a wonderful, curly mess. And I love it!! I do have some thinning but I've always worn hats and now just wear girly hats. At some point I'll see a stylist, but I've decided to enjoy this phase while it lasts.
Hugs
Lindy

Hair grows around 7 inches a year and long hair takes years. So I have let my hair grow from a pony tail (shoulder length), with a stylist's help, to present some 2.5 years. I did try extensions for a year but repositioning the extensions every 4 months thinned out my hair. Now its great at boob length. I am lucky all male members, of my family, have a full head of hair.
Having long hair that looks good is alot of work and cost.
Short hair is much easier to care for, but long hair is much more fun.
I can style many different ways, wear pretties, make it flip in the wind.
It is all equally fem.
Regarding my own hair length, I like it either way, short or long. I know that when I finally grew my hair out to below shoulder length, I got a lot of compliments, then I decided to get it cut to a much shorter style like in my present profile pic...
I am still getting lots of compliments.... In my opinion, I don't think it has much to do with looking girly or womanly, there are so many more important factors involved other than just hair length.
Plus, as others here have pointed out, shorter hair is much easier to deal with and is easier and faster to get ready in the morning. In due time I will probably let it grow our again... variety is the spice of life.

omg, thank you KathyLauren, VickyMI, Arianna Valentine, barbie, Lindy, warlockmaker, Jin, and Alaskan Danielle
for the hefty replies and know hows!! you're al sweeties!!
today, i went to some parlor/salons earlier and ended up not finding anything that fancy my taste.
although the 'try out wigs to see what suits you' is quite interesting. i forgot about wigs as a way to try out hairstyles :D
ty again lovelies

I do agree I don't think length has as much to do as how a person represents themselves

Well I rock the one in my avatar for work ( nowt up top so wig has to be) but have shoulder length for out and about and my "past life" say I have long hair so might get a longer one to see how it feels and looks. Did get gendered correctly today in the short one.

I have wanted my hair long my whole life and I love it. At 48 years old it is considerably longer than any of my friends though. Maybe I could cut it short but it helps to cover the neck muscles which are still bigger than I would like. My boyfriend loves it straight but it takes me over an hour to get it to look like that and I don't even wear makeup, I don't plan to put that much time on my hair. I am working on putting it up different ways, but have not yet found a way I like.
I don't think there is one true way. Most guys seem to like long hair on a woman. Lol, kinda makes me feel like my hair is false advertising. Guys see my hair from a distance and go Oh! What's this? Then get up close and are like Aww! Better at a distance. 😁 oh well.
I love my hair in the bottom picture, too bad my face was all puffy from hair removal.
Most women I know go through many different hair styles in their life. I have a friend that is almost 70 and she is just as concerned with the way her hair looks as my nieces are and they are in their 20s.

Thanks. 😊 I Like them too. I destroyed my budget and I couldn't get any new clothes for half a year after, but they are soooo worth it.
Long hair is the best and the girliest in my opinion. A lot of men like it too, for many reasons.
The maintenance is the annoying part.

Thanks, Ariana.
Another factor is that the hair should look very tidy regardless of its length. Any woman who takes care of her beauty never neglects any detail of her hair. In my photos with long hair, I paid more than US$200 for one session of straightening. Nowadays it costs more than US$300, even for short hair. Even with short hair, the hair dresser recommends me to visit her hair salon every month to maintain a tidy hair style. Yes. I should be picky about my hair.

I'm growing my hair out so it's fairly short right now. I don't know which I like better on me because I've never had long hair. Right now it's the longest in my life. And again, it's still not even long lol

Mine stops at this length. My sister can't grow hers any longer either.https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/31046354_621161471568380_2876802617080545280_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=292f91bc5310396ae016fe03e6621f80&oe=5BB30DE8
Well when I began my transition, I started to grow my hair, as it easier to look more feminine with long hair.
I just let it grow, had it styled to a more female style, but let it grow. I ended up with my hair down to my bum. Washing my hair became a chore and blow drying took forever. and the weight gave me head aches. So off the hair salon I went.. I had it cut to about shoulder length.
These days, I keep my hair between shoulder length to maybe halfway down my back, when it get half way down my back, i cut it back to shoulder length. I love my long hair..
I tried extensions cuz I thought long hair was the most feminine choice but ended up hating it. So I'm wearing my natural hair, which is above my shoulders and wavy. I got highlights and wear it wavy and a bit messy (on purpose) and absolutely love how it looks. I'm letting it grow but enjoying it right now.
So bottom line, length isn't as important as finding the right style that works for your face shape and that makes you feel pretty.
I absolutely love my long hair! It lets me feel more like the real me and less like the icky past boy mode.
