Title: How much did you / will you change your name?
Post by: Renate on December 29, 2007, 06:53:03 PM
I've been trying to figure out how to put this in a poll, but it's too difficult with a single question.

How much did you / will you change your name?
For each of your three (or more) names enter a digit:

0  Same name
1Gender altered name
2Different name but same initial letter
3Totally different name

If you didn't change your name, you'd be a 000, if everything changed a 333.

id be a 333. although.  i was thinking that the fem version of my first name would make a neat middle name.

OK...I'm a 333...although Saint-Pierre is an old family name from just 2 generations back...Isabelle was the name of my favorite aunt when I was growing up...and my middle name Jacqueline because I just liked the way it flowed and fit with the names...

There you have it...a complete remake of my name...while still keeping most of it in the family...

Peace and love,

I go through lots of names, I don't mind my real name. Adam is supposed to be the original androgyne anyway.

I like my names and they are musical.  The number of syllables per word is the same as the original.  It makes it easier on all concerned if my name stays somewhat close to the original.  Yes, I really did plan it that way.

Okay, may be I'm a little anal about some things!   ::)

I thought that I would be getting a lecture about the evils of disowning your family.

I got that lecture from some people I deeply respect, and decided to keep the last name - at least for now. Should my marriage ever break up though, I may change it.

Well, my answer is sort of 301 because I'm going to use my current first name as my new last name and I'm going to move my current last name to my middle name.

Without disclosing anything real, let's say my name is Tyler Lee and I've published articles as such.  My new name will be Joyce Lee Tyler, which keeps the parts I like, feminizes the name, and hopefully keeps my old articles somewhat paired with my newly authored articles.

I am not 100% on this, because the other option is Joyce Tyler Lee, leaving my old full name as my middle/last combination.  At the moment, the former option is running a 3-to-1 favorite.

333.  I know of no feminization for my first name and I don't like any of the feminizations for my middle name.  As for my last name, that's a story.  My wife kept her maiden name when we married and now desires to distance herself from (okay, break from) her dad's side of the family.  So when we were looking at names for me we also looked at names for her, including a new last name we could both take.

Val.

I never had a middle name.

My original first name was "gender neutral" but it had a lot of history and pain behind it so i wanted to distance myself from it.

I would probably choose 320.
Lately I have been toying around with names for preparations and I thought about Erin or Eryn as the first name, I haven't thought much on the second name, but I am pretty sure I am keeping my last name.

330

I have no problem with my last name, or being connected by family with the person I used to be. The first name, Annie, was a long ago (1840s) family member who died before she was 2 years old. My name is actually Ann; my middle name, Elizabeth, was chosen so as to make my first Name and middle initial Ann E., therefore Annie. I go by Annie.

PS... "Social" isn't really my last name.  ;D

220 for me.

Keeping my initials the same made things a lot easier when I went through the change process.  I kept my last name.  It's perfectly serviceable and not too hard to spell at the same time as being slightly uncommon, which I like.  And my side of the family, so far anyway, accept me. :)

I changed my name at the end Nov. 2006 so, yeah, a year ago.

My old name was Nathan John M******.

I changed it to Natalie Ashlyn-Rose M*****.

I kept the old last name because M***** is cool (not because of my family). I changed my first name to Natalie, which just seemed to fit and everyone seemed to like it (plus, I was called Nat before so it was super easy for everyone to just keep calling me Nat afterwards). And Ashlyn-Rose is my original name at birth given to me by my mom, but then it was legally changed to Nathan John afterwards. Erm, I don't know how to word that because Ashlyn-Rose wasn't my "legal" name, just birth, and then legalized as Nathan shortly after. My mom has never told me who the names are after, and when I tried to talk to her about it she doesn't talk a lot about it. She can be weird like that, so she mentions stuff but not everything and then decides to not talk about it. *shurgs* But yeah, when I found that out I put it as my middle name, and I did it just before I sent my paperwork in 'cause I didn't know that little detail before hand.

So, erm, I don't know what my numbers would be.

When I originally changed my name, I only used one name, like Prince or Madonna. I've since expanded it, now is 123 form. I created my first name by altering my birth name although with different first letter, middle name uses same first letter as my birth name, it came from an ancestor on my mother's side of the family, and I use a last name from my mother's side of the family as well.

330 - Joseph Dwayne Moore to Katherine Irene Moore.

Moore - Doesn't need to change for me yet.

Joseph - From the bible, and my grandfather's middle name.
Dwayne - Father's first name. BLAH!

Katherine - Not sure exactly but mother really liked it.
Irene - My grandmother's middle name.

Both names were from my parents. It just happened that I ended up with the wrong one when I was born. That's been fixed now.  ;)

Hi, I picked the name Cynthia. the name of a girl I was friend with for a time in Barrie in southern Ontario. When it came time to pick names for my change of ID I remembered Cynthia and I then picked Leanne for a second name just because I liked it and I kept the same last name.

Not certain I understand the number thingie I guess I would be 330

I'd be a 333 as well. I totally changed my name. My mom hates the idea and doesn't understand why I needed to change my surname as well, but I tried to explain to her that I need to create an entire new persona with my feminine attire so that when I'm in my male persona I am one persona and when I'm in my female persona I'm somebody totally different. Kind of like a Dr. Jeckll Mr. Hyde thing.

First and middle name totally changed, but last name is former first name.  I liked it, didn't have any problem with it, but it just wasn't gendered female.  I chose not to keep my old last name because it's pretty rare and I don't want to be googled down the line.

0 or 2 for first name, female variant of male name  ??? so maybe that should be 1

3 for middle name, didn't have one before

3 for last name,  Mothers maiden name

Hey Laura91, it's kind of nice to see that we think a like. Unfortunately Rachael, I think that that is the reason that my mom was thinking. That by changing my entire name I'm disowning my family. Unfortuantely from day one, my family has never approved of my lifestyle so in a way I am disowning them or seperating my femininine life from theirs.

Okay.....I guess I'll be your first zero, as I've kept my name intact.  Legal first name is Michael, legal middle name is Beverly, then my last name, which I would not change anyway.  I simply go by my middle name.  Funny, I now embrace the name I tried so hard to hide as a child.   When people make comments about my first name, I tell them Michael Learned seems to like her name....but please call me Bev.
My credit cards say Beverly _______,  My Red Cross card reads Beverly _______ , my signature is Beverly _________, or, M Beverly _______ if I think I might have to be quasi legit.  I don't sign my taxes, as they're electronic, but if I did, it would be signed Michael Beverly _______.

Certain parts of the system, I don't mess with.  My driver's license is Michael Beverly, but it has a female gender marker.

333 I guess. although I have no middle name so it might be 3_3. The subject of name change is such an interesting subject and one that a lot of people neglect I suspect. After all, what's in a name? Well everything is in a name. Names are words and words have power. Your name needs to say something about you that you would wish people to know, even if it's on a subconscious level. For a long time I thought about feminising my own male name as it is what I would have been called if I had been born GG. However, it always stuck in my throat a bit as it was so common and most trans people with the same name do the same thing. It is also too much of a connection with the past which I want to get rid of.

So I chose a completely different name and one that is not too common. I chose Willow, because of a number of reasons. I have always liked the way it sounds - the way it flows - the way it looks on the page. It is the name of a beautiful tree - one that is firmly rooted but bends when the storm hits. It's flexible and moves with the flow. All qualities I aspire to.

Plus, it's the name of one of my favourite fictional characters who went through losts of changes that were not disimilar to my own, and came throuth intact and a better person for it.

Just thought I'd mention it.

BB

Willow

Hi all.
To get the feel of my name I must of written it over and over again I don't know how many hundreds of times until I made up my mind that I liked how it felt, it felt like who I am, Cynthia Leanne G. I believe I mentioned before how I got my first and second name. The first was a friend I had about ten years ago. When it came time where I knew I was going to transition, I thought to myself, "hey self?" "Why not use your friends name, Cynthia?" My second name it just kind of  popped up in my mind, I liked it, actually I loved it, and so it went on the application for my new birth certificate.

I changed to feminine versions of my first and middle names-- fortunately both of the feminine forms existed already in Latin and are used as girlnames in English too, names that I like-- and kept the same last name.

3-1-0 for me.

My first name, Sandra, was feminine, and I hadn't noticed many women with the name up to that point.  Also, it had a nickname that I was comfortable with.  I had never had a nickname that I liked with my old name.

My middle name, Louise, is a gender switch on my old middle name, Louis.  I was tormented as a child with that name and now I am proud to have it.  I had thought about using my mother's name, Lucille, as a tribute to her, but, while I love my mother greatly, I don't think she would have really understood my changes.  She passed several years ago.

I kept my last name as I felt no need to change it.

Now, of course, it seems everytime I turn around, I run into another Sandy!

I have a different online name than what my real name is going to be. My online name is 333, I always liked Meghan Lynn as the first two names and I thought the last name (Andrews) was fairly common and I didn't want to be the subject of internet searches to find my online identity. Paranoid, huh? I've known people who seriously regretted posting pics and too much biographical info online so I am fairly careful about that I think.

My real name is interesting. I had a variation of my first and middle name I was going to use. I asked my Mother what she thought about it. She told me what she was going to name me if I was born a girl, um, with girl parts, lol. So, that's the name I'm going with. So my real name will be 330 I think, different 1st and middle, then last is the same :) Meghan

I changed my name only slightly.  The gender neutral base is still there, but engendered long form version changed.
I am still most often called by the gender neutral name which is fine with me as I never had issue with it, and makes some things easier.

I kept my old last name.
