Title: New job anxiety
Post by: SailorMars1994 on July 09, 2018, 11:36:46 AM
Morning glories! Well i got some wonderful news I want to share to the world of Susan's. I have been hired as one of the chefs in Western Manitobas largest casino! This is a big step for me and one I'm going to take and run with. Total gung ho attitude! I am excited for the full time hours and the well above minimal wage pay. I am a little nervous on performance as is everyone on a new job but I am confident I will make a great asset and help contribute to the great reputation they have already established with their current team!

There is one thing however I am more nervous about then anything else. My anxiety/dysphoira. I haven't been employed for a bit (long story) so I haven't been able to keep up with laser, last session I had was in May and hope to resume either end of July or sometime in August. Since then, beciase my facial hair is that awful I have had to shave twice a day (once in morning and then any time between 5-7 Pm). I'm going to be working a lot of 3-11 shifts it appears and really don't want to shave 3 times a day so what could I do to take my mind off of dysphoira or anxiety relating to dysphoira shouldnit creep up on me? The stubble, although probably wouldn't be visible even if I hadn't shaved in 15 hours still grows and I can feel it at some point before it goes past the make up. I'm more worried about this stupid stuff then I am in my ability to cook and be a team player. Any ideas how I could idk, say calm my mind and not get obsessed with the gross stuff?

Congratulations on your new position.  I hope that the meditation techniques you mentioned in another thread help to calm you.

Congrats on the job!  When I'm at work, I'm usually pretty focused on the work itself and not myself.  As a cook during dinner hours, you may end up too busy to have time to think!

If you ever have trouble getting to work because of dysphoria, just keep in mind is that the job is what is going to get you the things you want to lessen it (ie, the hair removal example in your post).  Anyhow, that's what keeps me going.

Congrats again, I'm sure you'll do good work.

Congratulations on the new job.

I keep a razor in my purse. My hair grows slow and almost all of the black hair has been zapped. However, after electrolysis on Thursday I use a razor and dry shave. I guess I could use something on my skin to glide and reduce friction.

I hate facial hair and want it gone. I understand your dislike of facial hair.

Congratulations on the job!

How about shaving about 2, before you go to work at 3?  Most people are going to be too busy to notice a bit of stubble at the end of your shift.  And if they do, well, you're there to do a job, not to win a beauty contest.

Congratulations on the new job.

I fully appreciate you are worried about the stubble. However it may just be that when you are working so hard, that your conceern may no longer be apparent as you may be buried in work.

Of course, you may have anxiety later but then at home you can shave.

Wishing you al the best. Hugs

Thanks everyone. It is more of when to shave. If I do it at 2Pm or so then I will still be compelled to do it again at midnight as the stubble will still have 10 hours to grow. Meaning shave 3 times a day. It's more of getting home and shave that's my main issue. See when I shave at night it puts me in a more off mood then even the morning shave and it takes time for my anxiety to dwindle. If I shave at 7 on I still have a few hours to calm down before bed. This is like all at once. This is where my anxiety is really at.

It's actually quite upsetting I'm more anxious if stubble then performance. I'm not cheeky and arrogant enough to think I'm somgreat, just bothered by the effects of testosterone poisoning

Hon,

(Hugs) this is so difficult for you, I do understand. Maybe reframing the morning shave to 'restoring order' to your world would help, I'm not sure. But girl, even if it has to be 3 times a day then a girls got to do what a girls got to do.

The job is financial therapy, bringing balance to the mental, physical and spiritual therapy that you've already undertaken and you're going to be amazing.
