Title: Name change twice, not being taken seriously
Post by: 5cents on July 13, 2018, 11:56:30 PM
Yo!

What's up? I used to be on this forum years and years ago, but fell away from it after my college years. I always find myself back. I'm an advocate and public speaker in my state. My name is legal and has been for four to five years. I'm realizing now that something is different - sort of an identity crisis. Back in 2012, I had a scholarship plaque assigned to me with the name Brayden J (for Brayden Joshua then my last name, of course). My name is Joshua Owen. I don't like Owen and never have - picked it for the wrong reasons at the time and have a negative connotation attached to it at this point, just a reminder that doesn't need to be there, really. I was wondering what other people's thoughts are. Brayden Joshua or Joshua Brayden? I would more than likely use Brayden in my professional life and Josh in my personal, at this point. Less of an uproar, so to speak. Not to mention it may not get approved and changing all of this again won't be easy, I already know.

Thoughts, ideas, advice, suggestions - everything is welcome. I hope what I stated makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

I have two middle names, so effectively three "first names" to use in every situation aside from formal situations. I have to use my chosen first name on all important forms and applications and stuff, but I can introduce myself informally with any of them and get people to call me by whichever one I want. So I wouldn't worry about the order or what it looks like on paper much. If you don't like Owen, ditch it. I changed my name by deed poll two times at first.

If it's important to you I wouldn't go on what some random people on the internet think - pick the order that sounds right to you.
