I tried the voice pitch app. This is the first time trying. What does it all mean? Do I mix high pitch with low pitch while reading? I'm looking forward to the changes that will come on T.

@MeTony Dear Tony: It is good that your pitch range is in the middle... how much and how long have you been working on your voice?
We, all of us, somewhat mix high and low pitches and intonations as we normally speak, true for cis as well.
What will make a difference is practice, practice, practice... and more practice. Without continued practice and perhaps voice coaching from a voice therapist, it can be so easy to (embarrassingly) slip back to your old voice, especially when surprised or emotional.....
Are you going to a voice coach/therapist? ... It can help !!!
In my unofficial opinion I don't think that hormones have much to do with it, in your case "T".
I am prepared to be told that I am wrong about all of this.
Hugs,
Danielle

I believe Pierre has the advantage over us. As I understand it, T can change your voice when transitioning from ftm. I wish I was so lucky with E.
I have not practiced at all. No voice therapist yet. I have my first appointment with the team in September.
I hope practice will help. And also T. But I will get help with both when I have seen the "Gate keeper". First doc's appointment.
Tony...The pitch meter helps you visually see you are holding your pitch. The goal is not to vary more than couple half notes. For example my pitch goal is F#3 and the end of my sentences tend to drop to G3. As long as it is within range it's cool. It's not something that will happen over night and takes lots of work. Especially in incorporating female and in your case male traits like body language, hand gestures. https://msu.edu/course/asc/823c/.../The%20Transsexual%20Voice.ppt

So, typically males speak in a steady pitch and do not have a wide range, and females are marked by a wider frequency range. This is usually from intonation, prosody, and emotion in the speaking pattern. To help control your pitch, and maintain a smaller range try to speak from the chest, cut your words off rather than carrying them out, and try to find harder inflections or avoid the sing-song at the end of them.
Testosterone WILL lower your pitch, but if you don't take the other features out, it will not be as much of a change as you would like.
You're supposed to read the text normally to get an "average" of your current pitch. Don't mix stuff in deliberately or you'll skew the results.
Then you keep checking it as you progress on T. You should see a steady descent into the male range.
Thank you.
I read it normally with my normal voice. I'll try it again soon and see if there are differances. I have not started T yet.
Morning voice. LOL. Much lower. I need a speach therapist to narrow down the pitch I think.

Thanks for posting I've been looking for an app like this.
Hi Toni
Thanks for bringing this voice topic up...one of the issues I have with voice and especially the pitch, is how my trained voice sounds in my own head...it just sounds "acted"...when, in my case, I try and up the pitch it just sounds to me like I am putting on an even more false voice. This causes me to lose confidence in how I sound to others, the last thing I want is too sound "put on"...I can only imagine that the same applies for you guys trying to get your voice into the lower registers. Because it sounds so false to me, it feels like it should to everyone else as well and that any second someone is going to "out" me for putting on an "act". The higher I try and pitch the worse I fear I sound and I think this holds me back. I am trying to move past it.
I really tried hard to let my voice go the other day in private and recorded it...I was surprised but I actually thought it didn't sound too bad, I have no idea where I was pitch wise but I think it was somewhere near where I should be. The other thing I have noticed is that with practice I was able to move my pitch up over an 8 weeks period awhile ago so I would think the same should apply to moving it down....practice made the difference for me
Take care
Liz
That is great Liz. I'll practice on my own. Recording and listening to my voice was a good idea.

Practice makes perfect. Still much melody in my voice. This is before T. Been lowering my voice on purpose when I talk. Then I get used to it and this is the result. So far.
Does not seem to be a mission impossible anymore. Just need to keep my voice low. I automatically go pitch up when "talking nice" to people. My voice is a huge give away. More consious talking is needed.
Tony
I am trying to sing a lot in the higher range to help with my mtf voice transition.
It is not hurting my vocal cords or my voice as far as I can tell.
Chrissy
Chrissy... I sing too. In my car where noone hears me. Haha
Tony
Looks like the T is doing its work. Try to let the voice come out as if you're in a state of relaxation, and to let go of trying to "please" people in conversation but instead just think about being "natural".
