Title: Do I pass?
Post by: Corastrasza on July 24, 2018, 02:04:41 PM
I have been actively transitioning for most 2 years now. One year on HRT and 9-10 years of feeling like I was in the wrong skin. I found this site and its helped me deal with all the heart-wrenching scenes that my "condition" has caused my family. The fact that I'm in the midst of transitioning means that I am almost out of the woods. See, if I get womanly enough, so much so that people can't clock me even up in my face, that is the best case scenario for my folks (provided I continue to transition of course). My question for you fine folks is simply: can I pass? like scale of 1-10 and let me know why? what can I improve, what products to try, etc. thanks in advances bbs! Love you!!

Patience, hun.  It hasn't even been an hour yet since you posted.

I think your face has great potential.  It's a bit hard to tell, though, with the hair hiding it.  I am not sure the hairstyle is working for you.

The single most feminizing accessory is ... a smile.  You've been on HRT for a year, that's something to smile about isn't it?

@Corastrasza
Dear Corastrasza:
I read a lot of forum threads and posts and I almost never vote on the polls, I would rather post a reply comment as I am now doing.

You have made great progress with your ONE YEAR of HRT...  I think as it appears in some of your photos that passing should be sucessful but a lot more depends on passing like body movements, hand gestures, voice and voice intonation, cosmetics and nails and hair, clothing and shoes, etc, etc.

Most transtioners that I read about really make good progress visually passing the majority of the time after about 18 months of HRT and perhaps body hair removal and eyebrow shaping.  It took me a year and half to finally be convincingly passing and to make the switch to full time.... and as I continued HRT for almost 2 more years the body changes and other "passing" indicators finally are maturing.

Patience is required with HRT and transistioning....   Some bodies with be affected more significantly and more quickly than others that may take longer and have less significant changes....   it is all up to your own unique body.   What you read about others HTR experience will likely not be your own.  The old saying here is that "Your Mileage May Vary"

Again, however there is more to passing than just appearance... go to a busy place, a mall, an airport, etc... and do some people watching.  Watch how the females move and intreact with others...  how they walk, how they sit, how they eat, etc, etc.

Again, I will repeat it .... PATIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Please keep us updated regarding your progress.   Thank you for posting and thank you for including your photos.

Hugs and well wishes,
Danielle

Hello Cora,

I hope all is well... You are beautiful and can make your journey of life into whatever you want it to be....  I would submit for your consideration that in the end... Maybe your transition, is not about attaining a certain level to make your parents life easier.... Go make your life into what you need it to be... if that is passing 100% of the time to 100% of the people... then go make it that but, do it for yourself!

I will also submit for your consideration... That happiness and fulfillment can be found without hitting that 100% mark... Seeking 100% comes with its own set of challenges and if we give ourself no wiggle room... can be a quick path to utter misery..  When we seek to just pass as ourself... we always pass and we are open to all the journey has to offer... Our every interaction needn't be filled with worry about being discovered... They can be chances to make real joyful connections between our true inner self and the world around us....

I know this might not be the kind of answer you were looking for but, there is perspective in all things... I wish your a joyful and fulfilling journey as you move ahead gorgeous girl!!!

Onward we go brave sister!!!

A girl goes through puberty in 5 or 6 years, HRT takes around the same time with us. I like the shot in the coat, you look classy. There's more than passing, acceptance counts for more. Be a kind & helpful person then you will be accepted easier. The fact you are transgender will not matter. I don't pass, big with a Lemmy voice but I look OK for my age (60)

Exactly as above!
The most important thing you should do - is to achieve what you really want for yourself.
now for your photo critique - Its very difficult to see past that big hair and your eyebrows are much lighter than your hair colour creating a mismatch. Your chin is a little too wide for a cis-female so your might need ffs for that. You have beautiful eyes, skin and nose - so thats great! you don't currently have a narrow waist versus your hips - so you might want to consider wearing a cincher and hip shapers until hrt pushes you out in that area, once you've gone a few years - then you could consider fat injections in your hips and bum.

Hope this helps a little,

Sonja.

That's it.  I'm always smiling.  So everyone thinks I'm a girl no matter how I'm dressed!

To judge passing takes much more than photos. Passing involves behavior, gestures, walking, voice, attitude, the right outfit and so on. Passing also requires confidence, which takes a lot of time for some to develop. You have to completely personify the woman that you are in a way that comes naturally and is not an act. In short, what's between the ears is more important than how you look.

You're cute and you have a unique style. The first pic for me is the most passable. Camera angles are so important. Also, smile and that will really help.

I think you could be. But I think you look like you trying too hard. I'd say back off a bit on the makeup and try to enhance the fact that trans women in general don't have hips that are as wide as a cis woman. I like to use skirts and tops that flare a bit to enhance my hips and draw attention away from my waist which is ok but not great.

I also add to the chorus, its not the outside thats most important, but the confidence. If you truly accept who you are people see that visuals become less important.

I think the biggest help for you that you can do right now, is to smile more, and try style the hair a bit more.
For me the hair is a big sign., Just a nice casual style would be great.
Also if your voice is quite good then it reduces how much you have to look perfectly feminine, whatever that means lol. But you know what I mean? A good voice can throw away any suspicions people might have in the real world.
