Title: Has anyone had GRS with any of the fallowing?
Post by: Jocelyn_Plyler93 on July 25, 2018, 01:16:49 PM
Sorry if this isn't the right place. I'm new to this forum. My names Jocelyn 25 MTF. I have been on hormones for roughly around 5 months. So next year I'll be able to get my surgery. I'm from Pennsylvania and on assistance insurance. So UPMC has given me a couple surgeons that I can choose from. Most in state but there are two for out of state. So  the first one is Kathy Rumer, Dr sherman leis, Rachael bluebond langer, and Cecilia Unger. Anyone have any experiances with these doctors, I want to hear good or bad. I really don't want to go to someone who is going to butcher me up.

@Jocelyn_Plyler93
Oh, and another thing Jocelyn  ... in my effort to help you find answers to your question, you first need to let more members here on the Forums know of your arrival and therefore you will receive more involvement in sharing information of interest to you ...
...and other like-minded  members reading it will be more apt to share their thoughts with you and will help to answer your questions.

If you would, please go to the  Introductions Forum (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/board,8.0.html)  to tell the members about yourself!
It would be good if you would briefly re-state your question there also.

Again, Welcome to Susan's Place,
Danielle

You can find photo results for some of those surgeons if you search. Rumer has a fair number of complaints, and there's not much posted about the others.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I see you have found the GCS section of the site so all you need to do is learn about the site search function. It works a little strange and in some ways lacks a lot that google can provide but for questions like this, it works well. Go to the GCS area of the site where you can view all the threads. Enter the name of the doctor in the search box located in the upper right hand corner of the screen and then hit Search. The search will only look at this area of the site and return all matches in the GCS section of the site.

I often use this search in the moderator area because google is unable to see that section of the site and I have found it works well at eliminating the clutter you would see with other searches.

Rachael bluebond langer, is my top pick, I have had two reconstructive surgeries by her to fix a disaster done at the university of Miami by Salgado . She is the only one who would even attempt it, several of my friends have been to her for their initial GCS and are delighted with the results.

The trans wellness conference in in Philly 8/2-4/18. Dr. Leis and Rumer always provide presentations and take questions.

Dr. Bowers has been to every trans (health) wellness conference since the start. I moderated her presentation last year.

There are several other doctors that are there that do GCS and may well be ones you mentioned. Mazzoni has the program on the net and you can check.

If you are serious about going to Rumer I can ask if a friend will call you and discuss her GCS and BA that she had with Dr. Rumer. She had her GCS and BA on keystone through affordable care.

If I were to do it over I would include Dr. Ting in NYC and consider peritoneal. I would see if that is an option.

I chose my surgeon for different reasons.

Welcome to the site, Jocelyn,

I know someone who went to  Bluebond and is happy. I had a consultation with her and found her to be quite caring. I think she is an up and comer. She uses a robotic approach for part of the surgery and is thus able to avoid the long scars. Not sure what I can say here, but, simply put, I (myself) would go nowhere near Rumer.

Dr Bluebond teams with Dr Zhao, a top Urologist at NYU, who does reconstructive surgery.  They have pioneered the use of a robot which is more exact, and among other things, allows them to get in back of the neo vagina, pull it into place and anchor it at maximum depth. Its truly a team effort. Dr Zhao does most of the reconstitution work while Dr Bluebond does all the creative work and makes it functional and pretty . . .

Check your inbox

but do more research on Rumer before daring to consider. Reports on her are terrifying...

I don't have any experience with Dr Rumer but yes I must agree there are some scary stories about her online documented with pictures.

That story is about the creation of a fistula from Rumer's surgery that she did not pick up on. I was told by my GCS surgeon that before she finishes the surgery, she injects dye into the rectum to make sure none is seen entering the vagina. Fistulas are a complication that can happen with any surgeon, but the doctor should have checked to see if there was one. Rumer did not do my GCS (thankfully) but I can add my personal agreement on the comments on that post that Rumer blames everyone but herself when things go wrong.

+1 on Dr Rachel Bluebond-Langner. I even showed off her work in the "Untucked" session at the Philadelphia Transgender Wellness Conference this past weekend.

She is fantastic and also has a wonderful bedside manner.

I haven't seen to much positive from Rumer. The results and reviews posted on Google will make you think twice.
