Title: Problems with bra
Post by: helenmarie on August 11, 2018, 08:15:22 AM
Do you have a problem with doing up your bra. Some girls do them up in the front, then turn them around, others do them up first and slip them over there heads. I normally have no problem, but now & then it will take several go,s to do up. Let me know if you do.

Dear Helenmarie:
Regarding your question about putting on a bra.... for me it is easier to fasten the hooks and doing them up in the front and then turning them around and getting everything into their proper place.  Of course some sports bras are front closures and some are also pull-overs.... but if the bra has clips in the back I always fasten them in the front and turn them around....
Hugs,
Danielle

Yes, it depends on the bra, of course. With some of them I can reach around the back and fasten it easily enough, but with most of them it's easier to fasten it in the front. Of course, you can buy front closure bras, too, which make  things much easier for everybody.

I don't know which way is correct.

This is something my Mother never told me.  :'(

Apparently the 'hook and spin' method is not good for your bras - but the one that is most used, even by cisfemales.

Personally, because of arthritis problems, I can't get my left arm around my back so for me it's the only way I can put on my bra.

55% vs 39% use the hook and spin method.
While you don't want to stretch out the bra and wear it out prematurely, you should do whatever you have to do to put it on properly.  If you use a bra all the time they are gonna wear out no matter what you do.  But, if you are a crossdresser with a large collection of bras, this isn't going to be a problem  ;D

Helping a loved one with age or disability issues gives you a different perspective on questions like this.

Mama taught me how to fasten behind my back when my breasts came in at puberty. I had been watching the older girls so it just seemed right. None of us were very heavy so a bra was only for special occasions. I think going braless when young helped us build the connective tissues to hold our breasts up. After all, a bra is a recent invention and women have been going without for thousands of years. Sagging? Sure, as I age a lot of my body is beginning to sag, I wear it as a badge of honor!

Hook and spin!! :)

I can easily fasten a two hook bra from behind.

But I have found that a three hook band with deep wings is so much more supportive and gives me a lot more lift. I really feel properly corseted in these deeper bras.

But I need to do a front hookup and swivel with three hooks!

I usually hold the fastening ends, reach behind me with both ends and hook them, pull the straps up and go from there[emoji846]

I learned how to hook a bra behind my back when I was 12. I haven't had any problems with any bra yet. Well, other than wishing my boobs filled bigger cups!

Due to shoulder problems, I have to hook in front and spin around.  I learned to unhook a bra many years ago.   ;)

I do think it may be a tad easier to hook in the front and then spin, but I prefer to put my arms through first, reach back and feel for the hooks and clasp them, then adjust my breasts in the cups.  My new bras I always clasp using the outermost hooks on the band, then months later I use the second row of hooks as the band stretches.  Every once in awhile I would have a bra that I could use the innermost row of hooks, but usually I have stopped using it by then.  Weight fluctuations do enter into this too somewhat.

Lots of times I do not wear a bra when dressing more femme than adrogynously or male.  For support I simply use an open bust shapewear camisole, which yes, you can also wear with your bra.  The downside with not wearing a bra is that when my nipples brush against my top, they can stand out.  A regular camisole on top of the first one, or some another layer you can wear, helps.  Think of a comfy sweater!  One day I may not have the option, because of growth and appearance, to wear some type of bra or not.  That may never happen though and that is fine with me, at least for now.

In male mode, it can be tough to hide that you are wearing a bra, although you can take some steps that I have seen written about here that are helpful.  That wearing may be needed if you have breast growth to conceal in male mode or you just like wearing bras as a guy.

If you need to hook up and spin, make sure you spin in the right direction!

Bras have a little flap at the clasp, which is designed to cushion you from the metal hooks and eyes.

If you spin the wrong way, the flap gets folded back.

Yes, so did I when I was 12 years old. That was over 50 years ago and I just cannot do it that way any more. I do my best to keep active, but sometimes as we age, we just do not have the flexibility any more.  :'(

I started wearing bras when I was 12-13, and ever since then I've done the "hook and spin" method. I could never learn to hook it at the back. I can barely even unhook it at the back. So sometimes (especially with new bras that are very firm) when I take off the bra again I pull down the shoulder straps, then slip the bra down to around my stomach, spin it and unhook.

I have to hook and spin.   my mother did it that way, but 1st and 2nd wives could do a bra any way they wanted.  I just like wearing a bra.

I'm fortunate I'm able to hook a bra by reaching behind and hooking two or three hooks.
I'm also able to put on or remove a rear hook bra without removing my shirt.
