Title: NSFW-ish, no changes downstairs after 6 months of HRT
Post by: Melissa Nelson on August 18, 2018, 06:42:54 AM
I've been on HRT now for about 6 months. Everything I've read says that downstairs gets smaller and nonfunctional. However mine is still going strong like nothings changed. I still get random erections, no change in size, still produce fluids. I'm and a decent dose of E, however just strted spiro, my total E is high, no info on T levels .

Is this.. normal .. anyone else have this happen. this would be like winning the lottery for thoes that want that, but I dont really I rather not deal with 'it'

Hi, Melissa!

Welcome to Susan's.

Each person's response to HRT is so different that there is no real "normal".  If you have concerns, you should talk to your prescribing doctor.

The continued full function may be related to having only just started on spiro.  Or it may just be the way your body responds.  Your doctor will have the answers, and should be able to adjust your dosages to give you the desired outcome.

Please feel free to stop by the Introductions forum (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/board,8.0.html) to tell the members about yourself.  Here is some information that we like to share with new members:

@KathyLauren is, as always, correct.  For me it was closer to a year before I noticed any real changes.

Blood tests for your testosterone levels will help determine if the medications you're on are having an effect.

Welcome to Susan's. It's a lifesaver to some.

For me it was pretty much immediate that I saw a change in libido and within three months I saw reduced testicular volume and around a year I now see zero fluid. However, Penn Medicine had me on spiro for a month before starting estrogen. Right now I am in finesteride and a minimal dose of Spiro and my T is nonexistent (not necessarily a good thing). As was already said it's more about the T levels than the E.

Hi Melissa,
T levels are the determiner. It is possible to work with your endocrinologist to balance E and T. I personally have been given the option of keeping high E levels and allowing high female T levels for potency reasons. In the end I chose maximum feminization with full dose E and  normal female T. I can climax but don't produce fluid. Also pronounced general shrinkage.
Hope that sheds light, Kirsten.

@Melissa Nelson
Dear Melissa:
For me, and it is just my experience, at about 5 or 6 months I could hardly ever get an erection and ejaculation was a non-event, usually with very little clear fluids or no fluids at all.
This was just my experience and may not be the same for anyone else because every body reacts differently and uniquely to HRT.... it's up to your genes and the HRT regimen that your doctor prescribes specifically for you.

Regarding shrinkage, things definitely got smaller down there after that time but perhaps not as significantly as you are possibly hoping for.

Sperm count for me went down to zero after 5 or 6 months.  Just before I started HRT, as my Endo suggested, I had my sperm frozen just in case I wanted to "father" children in the future.....  a wise thing to do for sure.

If you have further questions please feel free to ask.

Hugs,
Danielle

15 months on HRT right now. My E levels have been between 50pg/ml and 60pg/ml and my T levels are constantly 20ng/dL. The initial cyproteron dose was very high and that stopped the ejaculations at only 2 months, haven't seen any fluid since then. But otherwise, sadly enough everything is still working as before HRT and I haven't experienced any shrinking.

Well, the "not working" or "not working well"  part is what I first experienced also... shrinkage came later but I don't think that my specific degree of shrinkage is of the larger amount that you perhaps are hoping for in your own body.

If I were you, I would certainly have this discussion with your doctor, after all it is your doctor that is managing your HRT....   all of us here are just guessing about your situation.... and the only facts we can offer is to tell you about our own experiences.

Talk to your doctor is the best advice.
Thanks for posting,
Danielle

Just wanted to let the TS know, that sometimes everything down below just keeps functional. Already have discussed it with my doctors and they said its a sign of a healthy blood circulation.
As for shrinking, I never really cared about that, just saving/waiting for GCS. But I really hoped the erections would become less frequent than 3 times a night.

It depends on your levels and how long you've been on HRT. I'd talk to your Endo if you're worried, but everyone has different experiences. I saw a difference between shots and pills. I initially noticed the change about a year in. There was also a 6-8 month period where my levels were close to 1000, rather than 200, and my late-testicles shrank to the size of blueberries. When my levels got corrected, they got a little bigger (back to the size they were previously on HRT). Libido is directly related to your levels (T & E); too much or too little E can decrease your sex drive. I'm noticing that more and more being post-op.

Edit: Also, from what my endo has told me, high E levels will help drop your T. You can always request info on your T levels though.
