Title: Male with functioning uterus
Post by: Shennae on August 21, 2018, 09:39:40 PM
Hi all,

I know this is probably a stupid question and maybe no one can answer it, but here it is: has anyone heard of a male who has a fully functioning uterus and could get pregnant?

Just curious I guess.

There are intersex people who have elements of both. Not sure if its possible for everything to be functional though.

There are reports of XY women giving birth, but they were by all accounts women who were XY rather than someone who was a man, who had a uterus along with male physiology. It is an interesting read: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2190741/

If you're referring to ftm, it's totally possible. It's important to determine if you're wanting to have kids in advance and wear protection if not wanting to become pregnant because testosterone is actually teratogenic to the fetus

To any FTM guys reading this, as a biological male with low T who used T gel during one of my wife's pregnancies, please please heed this warning.  I am thoroughly convinced that secondary contact to the T gel caused her miscarriage... I wouldn't wish that pain and devastation on anyone.

One of my recurring dreams. Sigh.

I have suspected that in addition to the two testes that are obvious, I may have a hidden ovary somewhere. Never had DNA checked, but this would explain some things...

Woah, really? I've read about and seen pictures of ftm people who got pregnant, who looked completely male except for the pregnant belly, no mention of this. Is that actually unsafe?

Male with uterus: Look up persistent mullerian duct syndrome.  Yes there have been people who for all intents & purposes looked male... but if the uterus has no outlet (aka vaginal canal / cervix) then it just builds up pressure and can eventually become life threatening.

Long term T can damage the eggs. T can lead to the baby's brain not developing properly, and can increase the child's risk for cancers down the road

There's something oxymoronic about the phrase "male with functioning uterus".  Now I'll grant you that a transgender man can have a functioning uterus, but then biologically he is still female.  After undergoing hormone therapy with testosterone shots to change from female to male, the uterus mostly likely becomes non-functioning.   Gender and sex are not equivalent.

I actually know, personally a XY male that had a uterus.   He had it removed as it was bloating and hurting bad.  "functioning' is debatable of course, but nonetheless true.  Again.. persistent mullerian duct syndrome.
