We have all been greeted by the Lovely Alaska Danielle. Sometimes I wonder what will happen when she does not have 20 hours of sunlight. She has been fabulous at giving us complements and encouragement and I want to acknowledge her for how much she actually brings light to a sometimes dark situation. You are the bomb. Sorry I'm old and I don't use the new slang. Anyway considering the length of some of her posts, got me to wondering just how many words a minute she can type. Take your best guess.
Danielle thank you for being here and offering the support you do. Actually all of our staff is the bomb. Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me and so many others back to life. Luv to you all.
@DawnOday Dear Dawn:
Wow... all I can barely say is WOW
*blushing*
Hugs and hugs and hugs ..... to you and all of my Forums friends!
Danielle. <3
You are so right Dawn,
- it just wouldn't be the same Susan's without her. She is a ray of sunshine in the darkness.
You rock Danielle,
Hugs, Kirsten.

@Alaskan Danielle
The cold north must make warm hearts.
Danielle has been and is a delight and her cheery greetings have helped many of our new friends to feel welcome.
As for typing speed lord knows, I just want to know how she gets all these colours going
I'm just old I guess
Though I actually think she's have templates for boring official stuff, she doing great work with greetings here and there :) It's very important to meet new ones who feel themselves lost and nervously waiting somebody to notice them. She greet me too ^_^ Thanks!
@DawnOday Lovely sentiments Dawn - BUT don't think I didn't notice your new Avatar pic - Looks Fantastic!
@Alaskan Danielle Yeah she's got fast little fingers alright, a big smile, a warm heart and dishwasher blonde hair.....( yeah I'm still chuckling over your use of the word dishwasher to describe your hair colour..LOL).
You do a great job giving advice and support to everyone who crosses your path!
Big hug for you Danielle, O
Sonja.
Danielle is helpful, understanding, welcoming, compassionate and a great motivator. She encourages us and uplifts us regularly.
Sending love to you Danielle.

Friendly. Super-positive. Inspirational. And a fast typist to boot! Susans is very lucky to have you here Danielle.
I became an Official Greeter a little less than a month before Aspiringperson (Danielle) joined. Looking through her earliest posts I can't find where she was actually greeted herself. Tessa gave her the first reputation point on her 13th post, which may have led me to think she had already been welcomed.
So without further ado,

I love it. Thanks for acknowledging a truly lovely spirit. She has brightened my day so many times.
Dawn,
I seriously love the avatar picture. Best yet!
I have another thought on Mistress Danielle. I think it equally possible that she has a dark room in the back of her "tax office" where the slaves who have come under her spell, code named Suitor #3, #4, and #5 feverishly type out Susan responses to the sound of whips cracking in the background. Clad in her black dominatrix outfit, she barks out, "And remember to be nice or face the penalty." Well, maybe not, but it sure makes an interesting picture for those followers seeking the juicy stuff. lol
Moni
Oh, I forgot, pictures Danielle, pictures! :P
Moni..Great description. You may be on to something. I can see her in a black latex cat suit, with a whip in one hand and the other typing out another greeting. Thanks for your kind words. Hugs
Her comments are always well thought out and usually on point. I have to admire the sheer volume of posts and the persistence it would take to read all those posts. All I can say is well done!
I'm so glad this thread got posted. Danielle (Alaskan) has been a very positive influence and a warm heart!!
Thank you everyone for your most kind comments.... I am still in shock over this post that
@DawnOday started... and I am still blushing just thinking about all of the very nice comments that are being posted.
I will be the first to say that I don't deserve
all of the accolades and that I don't always offer the encouragement and support that I should sometimes.... there are many threads that I just seem to miss seeing at times.
Oh and the typing speed poll is interesting...
...later on I might share with all of you about my real typing speed.... (I do type quite fast)... certainly not "hunt and peck" as two poll responses indicated!!!! :) :o
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
Hugs,
Danielle
We all get welcomed by someone (I was welcomed by Mariah, about three years ago), but these days, Danielle seems to do more welcoming than everyone else combined. And she's only been here for about six months!! It seems like we've known and loved her since forever.
She is without question the Energizer Bunny of forum members! We are truly blessed to have her inspirational and enthusiastic participation here. Not to mention the continuing intrigue of her love life! >:-)

I can't tell you how many times I've needed to edit out links to new members after getting that red notice that someone has posted a new message. I've got used to it though.

You know....Dawn, I was thinking that you may need to add a few more higher numbers to the pole. I've read that the fastest is like 212 wpm. I think Danielle types more like 190+ wpm? Any thoughts?
Maybe she will slow down in the winter when they have only 4 hours of daylight. Maybe she doesn't type at all but jabbers into Naturally Speaking. All I know is the responses are quick, long and uplifting.
To all that are following this thread started by
@DawnOday ... OK, I will dispel any myths and incorrect guesses about my typing speed... in high school I took a couple business machines classes and learned touch typing the old fashioned way on typewriter. Typing speed in Words Per Minute is set up on the formula that the average word length is 5 characters and therefore a typing speed test consists of a block of text with various words and different length of words .... the results of the timed test correlates to a computed typing speed.
In high school I regularly exceeded 100 words per minute with no errors. I eventually graduated to one of those IBM Selectric typewriters, the ones with a typing ball and achieved even faster speeds. I kept on having difficulties with the Selectric machines so a typewriter repair guy was called in and found nothing wrong with the typewriter but asked me to show him the problem that I was having.... so I started typing away and the typewriter started acting up again... the typewriter repair guy said that I was
exceeding the speed limit of that particular model typewriter which is approximately over 130 word per minute and that is why the problem showed up.
Advanced speed tests involve number and punctuation characters which more accurately assesses real life speed.
Today I still type at
well over 100 to 120 WPM on a computer keyboard ... I can type even faster on a real typewriter than I can on a keyboard, mainly because of tactile feel.... much like when I play the piano, unless the modern keyboard is designed especially to mimic the "feel" of an acoustic piano keys, I find that I don't feel as comfortable playing an electronic keyboard with a fast moving musical score.

@Julia1996 I hope this answers your questions about how typing speed is determined....
Thank you all for your way too kind comments....
I very much appreciate what you all are saying... I am truly *blushing* and totally overwhelmed.
Hugs to all,
Danielle
haha I'm loss, thought it around 90 wpm :D

Dear Dawn:
So, I was wondering, in your opinion, that if I did wear a latex catsuit and had a whip, would those things greatly assist me in my posting efforts with greeting and encouraging members? ??? >:-)

People need to calm down. It was a joke. Yes it probably was in poor taste. I've been called names all my life and I know when people are serious and when they aren't. Once again Danielle you are an inspiration to the rest of us and I really do think very highly of you. But I'm a low life Lib. Uncouth to the max. Virtual Hugs to you darling. Please don't be mad. It was all a joke. We are amazed at the amount of messages you put out. It would take me most the day and night and I would have no life at all. But you seem to do it with such ease. Donica, it was that fun that attracted me here in the first place. Every other place I'd visited had so much vitriol and infighting that it was hard to see any benefit from their communities. Even though this isn't a closed group, it is so well-run that people feel free to relax and be silly. It's a huge relief for those of us dealing with such a weighty and scary situation.
So thank you

If you want to continue the catsuit discussion, lets split this off in a separate topic. (I know I am a buzz kill and I promise to chime in when it becomes a separate topic)
In this spirit: I am amazed by the number of words Danielle is able to type. I wonder how many keyboards she wears out in a single year. Can you deduct more than one keyboard per tax year due to excessive wear? At least those are business expenses I hope.
Thank you very much for being so patient with us.

@sarah1972 Dear Sarah: It is interesting that you brought the point up about wearing out keyboards.
I use my computers a lot at work, and at home... business communication and business email, private stuff and emails... and of course here on the Forums.
I just replaced my keyboard one of my computers at work... most of the time my keyboards will be OK for a little over 2 years.
When the keyboards start wearing out, certain important and over-used keys will start to stick and/or become intermittent or inoperative. ... and the individual "key labels" will fade away.
Of course when entering data on a phone or a pad, the touch screen is used and there are not mechanical key mechanisms to wear out but typing speed is much slower because of the non-standard size of the key layout and non-existent tactile feel.... that makes touch typing just about impossible.
And yes, if any of my business computers are used for my business the majority of time, repair expenses can be deducted as a business expense.
****QUESTION for my Forums friends, what is your approximate typing speed? ??? There are a plethora of online sites that will provide typing speed tests. Thanks for your comment and for posting your thoughts.

Ugh - shame on me... only about 50 words per minute. That is less than half what you can type...
I still wore out my keyboard with many faded keys, but of course, it took me a bit longer. I never had any formal typewriter training either.

@sarah1972 Dear Sarah:
No problem, 50 words per minute is moving right along, most people these days can not type that fast, or are using the hunt and peck method...
... the real test is "does that include numbers and punctuation"???
Yes indeed, learning first on a "manual" typewriter then moving on to an "Electric Typewriter... all of that really refined and allowed development of proper key fingering and key strokes. With a typewriter, typing errors were a big issue because you couldn't easily correct the mistake... some of the electric typewriters had "correction ribbons" which were an improvement. Also there were no spell-checkers ... the dictionary was utilized!!!
The discipline of learning to type properly without a lot of errors was a good skill to learn. Also in formal typing classes there were important lessons regarding punctuation rules, sentence and paragraph structure, etc, that were all a part of the "learning to type" task.
I can still type faster on a real typewriter than I can on a keyboard.
Thanks for your comments.
Hugs,
Danielle

****QUESTION for my Forums friends, what is your approximate typing speed? ??? There are a plethora of online sites that will provide typing speed tests.
According to these online sites, between 80-90 words per minute. Which is weird because most of the time I can't even think of 80-90 words per minute, and when I'm making a post here it takes me sometimes an hour to say a few paragraphs, lol. Sometimes more. >_<
As for Danielle... sweetie, the world needs more people like you. You have my deepest respect and admiration. And I don't give that to many people. *hugs*

I have felt bad about this thread all day. I hope you know I love you Dawn and would never try to offend you. I will back away from being silly here, but as it is part of my nature, I may have to stir the pot elsewhere. Also, no disrespect meant to Danielle. In my head, if I tease you, it means I like you. It is because I totally don't see her as what I portrayed her as that I thought it might be silly fun. If I have offended anyone, please PM me so we can get things right.
Love to all,
Monica
I was just playing with a few typing speed test websites. It seems my average is between 35-40wpm with an accuracy of about 95%. If I aim for 100% accuracy my speed drops waaaaaay down. I can only type with two fingers on each hand and I have to look at the keys to see what I am doing I am pressing. I never learned to touch type.
Jayne.. If you can type with one hand. Go for it. You'll never look as good as Hallie however. Or Julie Newmar for that matter. Sorry I just tell it like I see it.
Moni = I see you as one of our best members, and I think of you as a friend. You always strive to give good advice. You know all work and no play makes people dull. I have always had a sick sense of humor. Pester me all you want I can take it. Personally I like having fun. Besides I got all the ribbing I could handle walking to the shower in high school.
Danielle .. Again I am sorry. There was no mean intent. The idea was to praise one of our cohorts for the fabulous job you do. Your postings seem to appear out of nowhere and frankly I am envious. But I bet you have lots to be envious of. Will you still be our friend? Two people I always look forward to reading Danielle and Monica. Monica and I are starting our third year together She used to post an avitar and then last year she started showing her picture. She does not have a mean bone in her body. But she always gives good honest advice. If we were doing this in person it would be a lot easier because we could share some hugs. Truly, I'll think twice before doing it again thanks for giving me the lesson.
@DawnOday Dear Dawn: You are absolutely forgiven... I was indeed a little taken back by the complete derailing of the thread and comments about the kinky stuff were not the kinds of things that I am accustomed to. ... so, again you are forgiven, I do not hold grudges.... I am a Happy Camper.... oh, speaking about "Happy"...
... now on to
@HappyMoni.
@HappyMoni Dear Moni: Please don't you feel bad about this thread for a second longer.... I am not upset or angry, I forgive you completely... end of story. So
@HappyMoni please be "happy" as your member name indicates.
In conclusion to ALL who are following this thread:I was just a little disturbed that my followers might wonder about me... after all I am trying to fly under the radar up here in my small town where I am the only trans person ... the kinky stuff is not an image of myself that I want to convey to anyone... I am in real life very conservative, reserved and I dress and talk conservatively... I always try to be respected in my circle of friends in my town and here on the forums.
Please know that I am very appreciative of all the wonderful comments and nice words written about me on this thread... I will always try very hard to live up to everyone's expectation and perception of me.
Again, I am not harboring any hard feelings.... I am so appreciative of all that I exchange comments with on the forums... and the members I have not met yet.
... and
THANK YOU @DawnOday for starting this thread... I am overwhelmed with it all.
Hugs, and well wishes,
DanielleQuote from: DawnOday on August 28, 2018, 07:58:50 PM

Thanks love. You are awesome.
Getting back to the subject, I would say I fall somewhere between 30 to 40 wpm with about 90% accuracy. I may push it to 50 wpm at times but my accuracy would drop drastically. It doesn't make much sense being that slow because I was a programmer for many years?

Donica.
