On July 27th I walked into a realtors office and told her I wanted to sell my house. It was built in 1910 to non existent building codes, and in my town that makes it a teardown. She sold it in four days. I've spent the last month emptying everything out of a house that's been collecting my family's stuff since the 1950's. It was a long, hot month, but the closing was Friday and I made a good chunk of change.
So now I'm living in a hotel for a few days. I just want to be local until the big check clears. Then I'm going to pootle around the East Coast, down to Virginia and North Carolina to see my sisters and some friends. The plan is to just take my time, no long highway sessions, maybe pick up a geocache in each state, stop early for a meal and a hotel. Eventually I'll find my way back to Boston because...
...on September 19th I'm boarding a plane to England to be with Megan. :) I've always loved seeing people in relationships here on the site, now we're contributing to that. :)
Hugs, Devlyn
@Devlyn Dear Devlyn:
Well this sounds very exciting for sure...
I went through similar trials and tribulations when I relocated to where I am living now. Thinning out my possessions and "stuff" was sometimes very emotional because I only could take a very limited amount of my things with me to move into my new home. I refused to store my stuff in a storage unit because I just could not forsee when I could go back to pick it up or even if I wanted the stuff any more....
I imagine that you are encountering the same dilemma of what to keep in a storage unit and what to get rid of....
Well, I trust that you will keep us updated as you start your interstate trip and eventually travel to England to see Megan. Of course you are very familiar with the informal Forums Rule... "pictures or it didn't happen"
Thanks for posting. Wishing you safe travels.... and a good time being "foot loose and fancy free."
Hugs,
Danielle
Hi Devyln,
I am happy to hear that you are finally moving forward with life and will hop on that plane to be with the one who holds your heart. I will admit that I will be sad that I cannot visit my citified ruffian friend in Weymouth anymore when I find myself up that way again. But I will be happy for you and Megan. OMG another Yankey in King Arther's court. What is this world coming to?
Love and Hugs,
Laurie
Sorry to all the US members for stealing the precious Devlyn from you, but I'm greedy like that, and want her all to myself!
I'm sure we'll be back stateside in the not too distant future for visits.
My love is making a big step and a huge change in her life so that we can an 'us'. [emoji4]
I'll make sure the red carpets are out and the dungeon equipment is freshly oiled (don't want the neighbours disturbed) [emoji48]
... Counting the days! X

Wow what a big and wonderful step! It must be extremely hard to say goodbye to a long past with so much emotional history attached but what a wonderful future to look forward!
My love and best wishes to both of you for a lovely life together. The USA's loss is very much the UK's gain.

So you know the struggle. The hardest item to part with was my cask of Olde English Tea. But it wouldn't fit in a suitcase or run on 220v so I had to toss it......in Boston Harbour. >:-)

Thanks, Cindy. I count the things I have, not the things I don't have. Life was not peaches and cream at the old house. I'm actually happy to have the house out of my life and put some distance between us. So I'm leaving that history where it is and heading into my future.

Congratulations on the sale of your house, Devlyn. And especially congratulations on moving to be with your sweetie!
Thanks, Kathy!
Hugs, Devlyn
My first thoughts are, Megan will have to make room for 'The Reds Socks' and Devlyn will fit in perfectly as a 'soccer hooligan.' I'm sure she can have baked beans shipped to her. Okay, it sounds like a 'wicked good idea' to me. Congratulations on shaking things up and going for what will make you happy. You two deserve each other! Agh...wait...I mean that in a nice way! lol
Moni
Awe...love...ain't it wonderful?

I think of teardowns differently after realising (realizing) I also didn't meet building codes. Brain and body were mismatched so I fixed that with a bit of remodeling. All good now.
Are we still talking about houses?
Wow Devlyn! That IS a very big change. I know this must of taken a lot of courage to make such a decision. But I see now the love between you and Megan is very strong. No need to be sorry for steeling Devlyn from us Megan. We see the love. Congratulations to you both and all my best wishes. Oh, and btw Devlyn, I didn't really mean anything by that mustard comment I made in the "What did you have for dinner" thread ;D lol. Hope to hear more about your travels soon.
Love and hugs to you both,
Donica

@Devlyn @Megan. Dear Devlyn and Megan....
I am so very happy for you both...
....I look very forward of reading your posts when you two finally meet up in the UK.
Pictures of course will be required as you share your first moments together in the "old world."
Perhaps a Yankee can help straighten our things in the UK...
...or maybe instead the UK will straighten out a Yankee???
We are all very excited for you and this wonderful news....
Hugs,
Danielle

There's a double entendre in there somewhere, but I'm not pulling it out. >:-)
Devlyn & Megan,
The best to both of you, we all know that you deserve it. It looks like Deb and I will have to cross off a visit to see you in Boston this honeymoon trip and try to plan something for the other side of the pond at a later date.
Enjoy this love thing,
Tia Anne
That's where we'll be found. :)
Hugs, Devlyn
@Devlyn @Megan
God save the Queen!
Wow Congratulations on making such a bold move, what an exciting time it is for you both,
Devlyn careful not to make too much noise in that dungeon - local councils can be a nightmare to deal with! ;D
I wish you the best!
Sonja.
Congrats you two. Living life well. That is all any of us can hope to do.
Hugs

Don't forget to drive on the proper side of the road!

Oh yeah! That's right. The gas pedal is on the other side too. And the brake and clutch pedals! Oh my, I can see myself starting out early in the morning still half asleep on the wrong side of the road :o yelling out of the window, I'm so sorry!!! I'm from the US!!!
I understand they put a big "L" for Learning on your car so everyone knows to watch out.
Wait,
Didn't we fight a war to prevent this sort of thing? ???
Just kidding, congrats and best of luck learning to drive again!
I'm in Bear, Delaware, what a great name for a town! :)
Damnit, for some reason my eyes are leaking.
