Title: Applying for a new job
Post by: MeTony on September 07, 2018, 01:34:18 AM
I'm applying for a new job. I'll go for manager. I've been a teamleader for 2,5 years and my co workers told me they want me as a manager. Their closest boss.

Sooo...I'll apply for the post as manager.

I match all the stuff they want except 3 years experience with leading people. On the other hand, I've been a scoutleader for 5 years. Children, but children are also people. :D

Wish me luck!

Good luck!
I've just applied again, for the first time as myself though, to a preferred company because of their transgender policies. It was a little weird because like I said, I've applied there before, under my old name.
Rewriting my resume with my new name was interesting. On the one hand, I have nothing but good work history, but potential employers can't verify that using my new name, so I out myself by telling them the name I was employed under.

Maybe you should use being TG and transitioning to your advantage.

Companies want leaders and people who can cope and mange. Maybe say something along the lines:

"My managerial experience and dealing with people has involved my transitioning from FtM or MtF. I negotiated these changes with my fellow staff and ensured that they were comfortable and informed. I ensured that I performed my duties to an exceptional level during these stressful times  but I also took the opportunity to teach, to motivate and inspire others in my workplace during my journey. I did have conflict and I dealt with it, I negotiated and comforted, I inspired and I led. I strongly suggest that my ability to deal with my gender issues successfully, non-confrontingly and inspiringly should be an example for my leadership skills."

Just a thought!!!

Good luck to both of you, go for it.

Hi Tony,
So inspiring to us others to see fellow trans do well. So inspiring to see a trans male step up to the plate. I'm sure it will have a positive effect on others who aren't up to speed on what trans is.
Wishing you the best with everything.
So keen to see how the rest of your transition unfolds!

I hope that you get the position.  Even if you don't, you will be showing initiative and also showing your employers where your ambitions lie, and that is usually a good thing.

If you don't get the position, you might discreetly try to find out what qualities and experience the successful candidate had which made the difference.  That might help you with future opportunities.

I was thinking the same thing, @Cindy!

Do you write resumes for a living? Or are you an HR person IRL?

Great job, and thanks for sharing!

Good Luck Tony!

Emphasize the 2 1/2 years as a team leader plus any time that you were upgraded before that or filled in. Also mention any leadership positions you occupied in previous employment. Definitely being a scout leader qualifies you plus any other volunteer positions you have held. Make sure they know just how eager you are for the added responsibility.

Thank you people!

I have been the chairman in two non profit organizations for 2 years. They still want me there too. So I can't have done much wrong. Haha.

I'll think this weekend and write the letter.

Btw. I came out to the board for one of the organizations today. I got great support from them. And A LOT of questions.

*thumbs up*

Hi Tony! I am very happy for you, and I also want to say that your story inspired me. I changed jobs. And since this is a new field for me, I used the help https://edureviewer.com/ (https://edureviewer.com/) to compile a quality essay. So I got an interview and was hired. So far everything is going great!
