Title: HRT and Hurricane Florence
Post by: Melinda@heart on September 10, 2018, 02:18:20 PM
They have nothing to do with one another but I've loved on the east coast of NC all my life and I have no memory of people panicking the way they are for Florence. Stores can't keep water in stock or several other things for that matter. I worked retail for 20+ years and have never seen this level of prep from people before. My boss on the other hand didn't have any supplies. I made her go to Sam's to buy water but they were sold out. Another customer told us Lowes had water so we rushed across the street and bought for cases. This hurricane is looking bad. If it's still headed towards us Wednesday evening I'll probably pack up and head to the mountains for a few days. If anyone else is in the impact zone don't wait to prep if you're staying. Supplies are going fast!

Thx for heads up Melinda we have ringside viewing seats Atlanta but sisters live in Wilmington and Carolina Beach, two blocks from what is now a direct hit CAT 4!

SOP I suppose!

preparation
evacuation

don't wait too long for either or you lose out. Prepare too late and you have no supplies, evacuate too late and you're stuck in the middle of all the other late evacuees.

best of luck, stay safe

Some people always have a bugout bag and supplies available. If possible an off the beaten path out is the best option.

I was in North Carolina this morning, I got out before the situation deteriorates. Stores were selling out of water, bread, propane, etc. I'm  in Lynchburg now, Pennsylvania tomorrow, New York Thursday, and  Boston on Friday.....and I brought my HRT meds with me.  ;D

Hugs, Devlyn

I'm heading to Arkansas in the morning. Got the house boarded up and lawn stuff secure. I'm not tempting fate with this hurricane.

Talked to older sister coming from Charleston yesterday they did not reverse east-bound I26 until noon which did not help . . . Was hoping she'd come Atlanta but she only made it as far as Raleigh.  >:(

update: the track has turned South directly heading somewhere between Charleston and Wilmington!

Well, looks like "Florence" was a complete fizzle . . . Talked to sister this AM Carolina Beach is just next to Wrightsville, where it made landfall CAT1 and, with westerly winds blowing offshore, there's no tidal surge at all. Farther to North perhaps not so lucky?

The eye passed right over them and all is well!

Lots of flooding north of them. The winds are pushing the water up the rivers and high tide is due around 12pm. That means more flooding.

Update: I can't get back home. Most roads leading Into to Jacksonville are flooded or blocked with debris. The storm is pouring rain all through NC so driving back right now is impossible on I40. Guess I'll be hanging out here in Arkansas until Monday at least. Friends who stayed have no power and tell me there is high water every where. Glad I left when I did. Hope anyone else affected is ok.
