My views on dressing androgynous.
Something I wrote for my website...
http://androgyne.weebly.com/androgynous-presentation.html
That was good.
I don't know why but I still laugh at that bit at the end.
'cos laurrie is funny.
"Anything unusual about me is to be discovered in time, not blared from far away."
Exactly. I'm not one who wants people to stare at me as I walk by and I don't want anyone to judge me by the way I look or how I dress. I'm just me and you'll have to talk to me if you want to know the intimate details. :icon_wave-nerd:
...laurrie IS funny!
Pica, I love your website. I wish I had that link last week when I was trying to explain androgynes to my friend.
Thank you... It didn't exist last week though.
I likes. So what does Pica consider androgynous underwear? >:D
;D
That is for the individual androgyne to decide for 'emself.
But I have always been a sucker for silly patterns.

Alternatively....
Sanctioned Androgyne Underwear.

Great!
Of course, y2g prefers skirts ;D
And no Nero, I won't answer the underwear question either >:D

Tis why it's only my views, I do not have the physique for skirts, and besides I'm.

You're possibly something a bit glam, and certainly something a bit special.

Nope, I'm really kinda frumpy, mostly just wear jeans and loose shirts. Also off centre (I like your spelling better than the US spelling).... way off ::)
y2g
Well, the whole world wears jeans and loose shirts, the universal outfit... I didn't know you spelt 'centre' different.

Yes, center. Like theatre, here it's theater. I prefer the English spelling.
y2g
i've probably read it a hundred times and not seen.
(Also, I tend to forget that the world is not english, well not that exactly 'cos that would discount all my polish and malaysian friends, I mean to say that I tend to forget the world isn't in england.)

got some photos somewhere of the 15 yr old Pica in a marroon gymslip, with past shoulder length hair in bunches.

Hi Pica Pica
The unisex clothes in the link bellow was pretty well what we wore back in the sixties. I love colors so I would have been wearing something like in the bottom right corner of the display. I still do love colors.

If you wish to see more there are a lot of links, just do a Google search on unisex clothes.

Hi Rebis
Oh come on hon, we could always go hide under that rock with my other little critter friend then all anybody could see is three pairs of eyes blinking in the darkness under the rock.
Cindy
Thanks.
"Hee, hee, hee" See, me gots a sense of humor to. But hey you would be welcome to come and visit me under the rock.
Cindy
i just pretend that the pretty people are stupid... >:D
i pretend pretty people are actually nastier than the rest of us. All bull of course, but it helps.
Hi Pica Pica
You so right. But since I can't handle going to a place for to long where there are to many people. It would be hard for me to estimate that ratio accurately. Most of those folks are not on the same planet in that respect. We live on, but I am not certain about those out there. They for the most part are in there little boxes, I could swear that most suffer brain atrophy in those little boxes.
Can you imagine how folks out there would react reading the threads on this board? I believe it would really and totally do a number on their intellect. For them to even attempt to digest the contents in this forum and the multifaceted folks inhabiting it? The weirdness would most suredly baffle them. Billy shouts to his redneck buddies. "Hey Someone go fetch the sheets and kindling and bungee cords, pole and the Zippo lighter please". "hee, hee, he" I love being different anyway.
Cindy
Bungee cords?
to tie people to chairs.
I'm holding my sides laughing, I love you guys.
Cindy
there are bungee cords in our freezer
wouldn't that make them snap or something?
I would say their stretch and bounce would be greatly reduced if frozen. Not recommended for diving off bridges.
Cindy
i assume they are supposed to hold things in the door area... ???
our bathroom is also hideously orange...
...that was random, Jaimey... :icon_shakefist:
mine has a chipped sink and carpets :-\
When I go to the bathroom I like looking at all the patterns in the tiles and make pictures out of them.
Cindy
our bathroom is ORANGE. day-glow :icon_yikes: orange. we didn't make it that way though...it was like that when we got here.
a lovely bright sunshine colour for a bathroom.
Wish I knew how to make this place brighter. Wing Walker and live a basement apartment, nice apartment but any widows we have are underground in window wells.
Cindy
Orange is bright. I'd recommend tangerine. Actually, my roommates hate it for being "unsophisticated", but I think it's rather cheerful. And frankly, if I have to choose which I hated more, the orange bathroom or repainting the orange bathroom...I'm going to have to say leave it orange.
I've never had a basement apartment...I imagine that it is hard to make it brighter. The only thing I can think of is warm colors, like yellows and light greens...but you aren't always allowed to paint. Hmmm...flowers are nice too, but they wilt. ??? I'm not a very savvy decorator...
:icon_writers_block:...i just realized that i wrote about my bathroom being orange twice...those posts are practically identical...wow. i'm a moron... :icon_no:
I have a housemate who says our house is unsophisticated...It's above a restaurant, how more sophisticated can you get?
the only way it would be more sophisticated is if it were over a night club...just kidding.
actually, i think living above a restaurant would be rather convenient, if you don't want to cook. I live on the first floor of an old Victorian house...it's pretty cool.
cool, they tend to be effin freezing.
I'm living in a georgian terrace at the moment, quite close to where the first ever british gay rights demonstration.
I once worked in a building over 850 years old, now that was impressive.
I use to live in a one room apartment above a restaurant when I was going to College in Sudberry. That was fine, I got a job waiting tables, all the coffee royals I wanted free and didn't pay rent. The owner of the rooms upstairs also owned the restaurant, so I worked the rent off.
Cindy
Great discussion. I've been noticing what I wear. Only you people get off the subject before I can submit my two-cents worth.
First, I buy colorfast 100% natural fabrics that can be washed in warm water and machine dried at low or medium heat. That means I can dump the entire laundry bag contents into the machines. I can't convince the born-women in the family to do likewise, so maybe I'm still over-male in that area.
For underwear, broadcloth boxers with long pants and knit bikini briefs with shorts. I haven't given the subject much thought.
For work, I've chosen carpenter jeans, solid color work T-shirts (I try to pick at least one of each color), boots according to company specs and white socks. Some colleagues, particularly the females, wear knit exercise pants.
Otherwise (and disregarding clothing received as gifts), I buy solid color or striped oxford shirts and twill pants, sized socks, and shoes of a type pictured in the androgenous shoe topic. I could buy female versions of these. Maybe, I should strive for a 50/50 balance. Sometimes, I wear my League of Women Voters belt; I was the first male member in the city where I lived. Do you think I need to dress more daringly, to make more of a statement?
Quietly,
Simone
Hi Simone,
Only you can know if you need to make a statement. In my case, I would feel uncomfortable making a statement, so I don't. But if you think you can do it and feel comfortable doing it, then go for it!
Rebis
As I said in me website, I'm not much of one for statements. Cool thing about the sash and the club though - almost a piece of local history.

we are notorious thread hijackers...>:D. heh.
I don't like to make a statement either. I wear clothes that I like, though I generally wear women's clothes because men's clothes don't fit right. The only "men's" clothes I wear are t-shirts, which are more unisex than anything. Oh...and my chucks, also unisex. But I don't think that clothes make the androgyne. As long as you feel good in what you are wearing, that's all that matters.
Actually, if you saw me, you'd see a woman. I wear make up, I have long-ish hair, and I wear everything from jeans to ruffly skirts. But like I said, I don't think clothes make much difference. It's how you feel on the inside. I know that I'm androgyne and the people I interact with on a daily basis are aware that I am somewhat different...I'm pretty sure that no guy I know "sees" me as a woman...which is inconvenient as far as dating goes because I like men...*sigh*, but then again, I'd probably be irritated if they did because I can't identify as female.
Oh well...I like being unique. :icon_bumdance-nerd: <--also unique...
Thanks for the feedback. I won't go buy a new wardrobe but will try to be more concious of the implications of new purchases. It was easier in the 1970s. I still have some high-heeled blue leather shoes with red welts, that I wore when reading my poetry. The blue zippered boots and the red moccasins wore out long ago. Shirts and suits were made in much wider ranges of styles. Too much polyester, though.
I won't change my work clothes. It was too hard a fight to be accepted as one of the "boys" to go through again. My long hair still gets me teased (both my long hair and my beard disqualify me from driving for UPS); sobeit.
I tend to hide, so sometimes I do like to make a statement with clothes, or force myself to sit in the front row. Still, I have a mouth and inclinations that frequently, unintentionally get me in trouble. I once coined the word sarcaustic for my humor (sarcasm with that extra bite); I've learned to be careful whom I tease (well, maybe not careful enough).
Female and male was I created,

- flip the genders so that the bits saying 'men' are 'women' and vicey versa. And I am just like that.

It's all about what you're comfortable with. If you want to make a statement and you are comfortable doing it, go for it. But don't feel pressured. :) I feel like some people (not just androgyne, but people of all identities), once they figure out something about themselves, like to be really "in your face" about it...I like to be more subtle, personally. unless i'm like this :icon_drunk:...then my ability to remain subtle is somewhat inhibited. >:D
Over a dozen years into this, still haven't figured out whether I want my presentation to be more androgynous, or am I OK with simply knowing who I am on an internal level regardless of external expression.

So there's no hurry to figure this out? ;)
Thank you.
