I was talking to one of my few friends I am out to about the fact that there are not many gender non-specific terms for the person you are dating. I do not mean something like "partner" or "significant other". I just want a term that means the androgyne equivalent to boyfriend or girlfriend.
The list so far (from my thesaurus) is basically "steady" and "sweetheart". Do you have any other ideas?
I do like sweetheart.
Other half
Better half

Turtledove
Liebchen
Fancy
Sweet Patootie
Soulmate
Helpmate
Paramour
Consort

consort is always good.
When referring to my partner in conversations with others, I say "my partner" or hir name. When speaking to hir directly, I use hir name, sweetie, or words from our own private language ;D

me and my sister have a private sign language - it was built so we could insult each other silently and at fairly large distances.
Thanks, everybody, those are some good suggestions. I told my friend about this thread and she stared calling me "gremlin". :D
I think the best one i could ever go with, is lover. Dont think anything hits it like a lover. But then again, i'm a hopeless romantic
