I use a depilatory cream it left the hair and a burning rash what can I do to feel better? The rash is on on my breast, chest, and belly. I would have stop but there was about a hour delay before rash hit and I tested it a couple days before as direction said no problems. By the way this wonderful product is "Hair Away, Total Body Hair Remover (Smoothing Creme?)".
Thanks for any advice,
Anna
Hi, Anna,
Depilatories are strong alkaline (base) chemicals that destroy the hair by eating at the protein of the visible hair. Skin is also susceptible to the chemicals in depilatories.
To make it feel better I suggest that you rinse the area for a long time, then take a mild soap, like baby shampoo, and wash the area gently.
Apply a moisturizer such as Eucerin.
How long did you leave it on? How large of an area did you do at one time? I take it that this is the first time that you have used this type of product. It's pretty nasty stuff.
I learned to use an epilator and after the initial skin irritation I use it whenever I need to, and it leaves no irritation and longer lasting results.
I hope that this helps.

I left it on for about 6 to 7 minutes because at the 4 minute mark the hair wasn't coming off so left it on for 2 more minutes that what the instructions call for. I did a quite large of area about half of my front torso at a time. Only about half of the right side burned and about three quarters of the left side.
Thanks for the help,
Anna

With the exception of pubic hair, I don't have any body hair at all. I guess that's a side effect of the androgen blocker that my doctor prescribed for me. I use an epilator on my arms as they are the only place besides my head that still grow hair.
I bought a Braun epilator in 2002 and it's still working fine.
Remember to use moisturizer after the epilator to keep your skin soft. Those chemicals are too much of a hazard.

Thanks this helped a lot. I think I'll give epilator a chance but the last time I used one it was fairly painful was one with coils.

I ordered a epilator Braun 5270 Silk Epil X`elle. I wonder if you can use them on your face? Also what speed should be use at starting off slow or fast? It should be arriving today by UPS and last Thursday I was in the fem when the UPS guy delivered a package I hid behind the kitchen counter but I think he saw me anyways. Oh well that way things go.
By the way something good came out of the depilatory cream it removed 8 skin tags.
Thanks,
Anna

Yes, but it will hurt... BAD. I mean BAD BAD BAD. And I always had a problem with ingrowns.
And the endorphin rush afterwards will leave you shaking.
Oh it was SUCH fun, lol...
I burned my upper lip and chin pretty badly once with those creams. Try explaining THAT one, pre-trans, lol. There wasn't much I could do to help it along. Noxzema soothed it a bit for me though.
As everyone else said, I soon moved to using an epilator for body hair. Braun makes great ones.
The face I eventually had lasered.

Yes, you'll need a pretty high pain threshold to use an epilator on your face. Even then it's not necessarily worthwhile, as it'll need a couple of days' worth of stubble to get a good grip. How much this shows depends on your hair type.
If you can live with the pain, and a weekend without shaving every month or so, a combination of epilator and razor will work pretty well. I reverted to just shaving, though; but then again, for me the more important thing is how my face feels, not what it looks like.

Exactly... if I remember, I used to skip shaving on fridays and epilate late saturday or even sunday. Even so, I eventually found the ingrowns and redness from epilating made me look WORSE than just shaving, so I gave it up.
Well actually, that's a lie, as I DO epilate now and then still, as laser didn't kill the very few gray hairs I have on my chin. But it's only a couple hairs, so it's nothing pain-wise.

Why I wonder about the face is if I shave to close together I will get a rash of bumps. I wont be able to shave for about 4 to 7 days I like today I have 5 days growth a little more 1/16 inch long hair, ick. I have enough money to laser right now but I may need to move on mouments notice so I need the cash. I have tried other crazy things so I know that thing might be on my face at least once. I also have some facial waxing strips so this week should be as fun as last week. About the epilator I still have a bit of a rash from the cream I want to use the epilator but should I?
Thanks,
Anna
