Title: Smoking therapy today
Post by: Gabrielle66 on October 08, 2018, 04:13:02 PM
So I thought I would try to put a little positive attitude back into my life today. Since I came out to my wife about six weeks ago, I have been too serious and have pretty much stopped doing the things that I enjoy most. My Xbox has sat unused and so has my smoker. I'm pretty passionate about my bbq and I haven't smoked a thing since that day I had my meltdown. So today I'm putting a Tri Tip on the smoker with some pecan wood. Keeping it simple and more healthy by pairing it with some broccoli. I've yet to pick up my controller and continue my quest to complete the Witcher 3. I did finish the main story but there are two expansions that I have only begun to explore. I do prefer to play role playing games that allow me to create the main character as a female but this game is exceptional.

It's a beautiful day here in Riverside and I'm fortunate that it's a holiday for me as well. So I'm going to smile and I'm going to enjoy the day doing something I truly love to do. I hope that all of you have a wonderful day today no matter what you do. Love and faith.

I'm glad you are smoking meat instead of something else.  But then women love to cook, don't they?

When my endo cut my hormones and I couldn't get a date for FFS due to sinus infections I started to build a 2000 watt sound system for my SUV...sewed cute patches on my short shorts, mother of pearl buttons on my jackets..I love my clothes and my music.

My favorite video game was Resident Evil 3, because I got to play as Jill Valentine.

As Warren Zevon said, "Enjoy every sandwich."

Hugs, Carly

Do you use a rub for your smoking?  Also what wood do you use?

I use apple wood & my best rub was an accident.  I was making a semi sweet rub, and my wife suggested I put a little cinnamon in it.  Well the cinnamon was caked and trying to tap some out, I got a whole lot more than planned.

I call it my snickerdoodle rub, and it actually tastes really good on a brisket.

Hey there Kate,

I have multiple rubs that I use for various meats. Some of them I mix up on my own and some are store bought. I don't do brisket too often due to the cost but I do think that's the king of barbecue. Tri Tip, pork butt, and baby backs are what I smoke most often. For smoke I absolutely love pecan wood. It smells amazing when it's burning and the flavor that it imparts to meat is truly unique. There is a smooth nutty flavor that nothing else compares to. I use several other types of wood like hickory, cherry, apple, and mesquite. Usually I mix them in various combinations with my staple pecan.

Cinnamon seems like a pretty unique flavor for a rub. Does that replace something like cayenne for heat in your rub? Snickerdoodle brisket is intriguing. Love and faith.

Yes the initial thought was to find a slightly different taste than peppers.  Please remember that I'm using more cinnamon then I thought would be appropriate.  Again, please remember, it was an accident, and I just couldn't throw the whole rub mixture out.

I use Saigon Cinnamon that I get from Costco.

My wife and I are both experimenters.  We kinda try things.  I have store bought rubs that I use, and I have the stuff I've created.  We do pork and beef - I haven't had the guts to try poultry or salmon, but we're talking about it.

The crazy thing is:  I kinda always handled the outdoor cooking.  Now that I've started my transition, I'm more interested in cooking in general.

My wife & I are learning to partner in the Kitchen.  I did the single parent thing for about 3 years.  That's where my daughters love to remind me that only I could burn hamburger helper.  My wife swears I was always a better cook than she was...  I argue that if she was such a bad cook; why am I 30 pounds over weight?

Any way, I still support you on your first step of your journey to your true self.

Kate,

I've always been interested in cooking. It's started with baking and then just became everything. The thing is that my wife is way better at cooking than I am. She just doesn't really enjoy cooking unless she is in the mood for a particular meal. So I end up cooking a large number of our meals including the smoking/grilling stuff. My problem is that I am reluctant to eat most vegetables. I have some kind of odd reaction to eating them that makes me feel kind of queasy. Especially when they are cooked. I am working very hard to try to get more veggies in my diet and less starchy foods. It's an on going process but I think that I am making a little progress.

Thanks for the support. I am doing what I can to keep this moving slow but I want so much to feel like a woman that it can be hard to pull in on the reigns. My package is on the way and then it's just finding the confidence to wear them for the first time. I'm really happy that I have an appointment on Friday. I feel like I can really use it this week. Love and faith.
