Heeey gamers!
What if we'll write about our game preferances and share list of games we played (or maybe at least important ones, because I guess some people could've completed hundreds of games, hard to make list lol). I think we need such topic :)
I'll start from myself. I'm roleplayer and casual player (well, it's more "eternal noob" but hey, I'm casual player! XD ). And yeah, I think that it isn't enough to have leveling/stats/skills to call game "RPG", I consider it actions with leveling lol. I love games that wants me interact with them, shaping them. It makes any outcome more impactful. So, my favorite genres are: tabletop RPG, FRPG, just RPG, text RPG and visual novels haha :D Most of them actually have just illusion of choice and boring outcomes, but I prefer to take my pleasure from walking path than reaching it destination.
But hey, that kind of games usually created for solo experience, and sometimes I wanna to coop with people and spend some time together in game. I'll put my favorites multiplayer games below.
Tabletop RPG and FRPG (Forum RPG)
Yeah, that's pure RPG, it's core. I have some experience in both, but in my past I wasn't nice person and often ruined the fun. I'm ashamed, honestly >_< But it still the basis of RPG genre for me. I know some stuff about D&D 3.5, D&D 5, but not too much because I didn't played a lot. And I also had one character in Pathfinder (looks quite similar to 3.5, was an ifrit, got 20 and melt sandman into glass statue lol) and GURPS (haha had a berserker and killed my own party, this was very short game :D )
RPG
Here I fallen in love with Bioware. NwN 1&2, KoTOR 1&2 (and SW: TOR), ME 1-4, DA 1-3... hell I completed all their games except SWTOR, ME4 and DA3 dozens of times. I even participated in FRPGs in KoTOR and ME settings. Probably ME series is my favorite. I even like Andromeda despite all critics, and now I hate EA for shutting ME down. You know, I'm pirate, but I bought all this games, and from this point I makin a promise that I won't buy any EA ->-bleeped-<- anymore in protest against ME hiatus.
Fallout was also great. Pity they ended series after Fallout 2 and didn't make any sequiels, it was great setting with curious system. And I also became addicted to at least decent graphics so when I found Fallout 2 it was too old for me. Completed it anyway few times but didn't tried first game.
I have respect to TES series, but I hate it. Really. As everything else Bethesda doing.
And I really like Witcher series but dunno why I can't play it. I starting the game, play 1-2 hours and don't want to continue despite I know it's great and interesting game. But though I can't force myself play it I still recommend it to those who didn't played it yet. It really awesome.
Text RPG
It's the reason I can talk with you, I greatly improved my english by reading text RPG. I love writer Zachary Sergi with his "Hero's Rise" and "Versus" series. Other than that, I like games from Choice of Games and Winter Wolves. Btw, first ones like to bring a topic LGBT+. At this moment stack at middle of completing Loren: The Amazon Princess :D
Visual novels
Well, I can easily tell that I love most of Telltale content - The Walking Dead, Batman, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones. I also consider last part of The Longest Journey VN with quest elements and I like it. Aaand yeah, Life is Strange (if anybody concerns, I drive my girls out of town if you know what I mean).
Multiplayer
So, when somebody wanna drag me to party, they can find me there:
- League of legend (I AM SUPPORT! because my hands growing from ass and I making less harm as sup...)
- Heroes of the Storm (whoever you want because it's so casual that who cares?)
- World of Warcraft (I don't like it, but I can play in good company that don't expect from me taking 2400 in 3vs3)
- Counter-Strike (sometimes I even have insights and making few kills, but I wearing name <BOT> name for reason lol)
- Diablo 3 (when I wanna incinerate my foes with Desintegrate and look cool with wizard's coats in same time)
- PoE (when I'm doing the real work in diabloid genre)
- ME: 3, ME: A and DA: I coop if you want it badly
- Fortnite and Battleroyale (when you wanna wait me loot entire village without killing myself just for be killed via storm)
Others
- MTG: Arena (recently was at Open House event and took my first real deck and learned how to play, now playing online)
P. S. I tried to find such topic but maybe I'm too drunk right now, but I failed :( sorry if I did.
I haven't played D&D myself yet (though I've tried to get groups together before). I have some friends where I'm moving that play it, so I might get into it then. I think I'd be open to doing that long-distance too--maybe with a mutual friend of ours--so if you're up for that in, say, half a year, I'd be willing to try it.
I like Bioware, too :D though I didn't enjoy DA 2 that much. I agree with you on ME, I thought it was a shame they scrapped the entire series just because they made one sub-par game. It wasn't that bad, I enjoyed it enough to finish it and it had some things going for it, it's just the flaws were too much for some people to like it.
I've played the original Fallout, but I like 3 and 4 too. I think Bethesda's older games were better: Morrowind was awesome, and Fallout 3 was a better RPG than 4 (I actually liked Fallout: New Vegas much more than either of the ones Bethesda made; that one was made by Obsidian).
The Witcher 3's pretty awesome, never got into the first 2.
Visual novels--I love story-based games! Detroit: Become Human was my favorite, but Life is Strange was a close second. I identify a bit with Chloe, but my personality isn't quite as aggressive as hers.
I haven't played any of the multiplayer games you mentioned :-\ I guess I haven't really gotten into modern multiplayer stuff that much. I have played TF2 and Star Trek Online, but those are the only really popular multiplayer games I've tried recently. I used to play things like Halo with friends but I always get slaughtered in shooters if the people I'm playing against are any good. :D
Ummm I don't mind shooters if they have some sort of interesting quirk or mechanic: Bioshock, Prey, and The Darkness II were all good. I enjoy a few crafting-exploring games like Minecraft and Subnautica; I really like the creative options those games offfer. They're quite relaxing to play.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some genre or another that I'm really into, but I also like stuff like Portal, GTA/Saint's Row, open world games in general, some fighting games (which I'm actually decent at), etc. I'm less of a gamer now than I used to be, but I still find things to play sometimes.
