Title: I’m Coming Out! (Cue The Music)
Post by: SarahFehrman on October 18, 2018, 12:23:16 AM
In the last week, I've come out to two cis-lady friends! One is gay (she came out three years ago at 60) and the other's brother is gay, so she's sympathetic. They are both so supportive and accepting, and both immediately started calling me Sarah and referring to me by correct pronouns. This after other things that happened while I was away for awhile are making me feel like even at 63, the petals are opening on the rose. HRT is four months along and I'm so happy! I just had to share.

Hugs,
Sarah From Chitown

Same age as me dear and apart from the ex no problems. No body thinks I am my age as they all guess mid / late 40s so hope the magic works on you. Have fun

That's great news... it is such a relief to talk to people about it in the real world and not just online. It is really nice to hear they're supportive of you. They sound like great friends. Thank you for sharing. It brings a little bit more light into the world to hear positive things like that.

love

Yay, Sarah!  Every coming-out is a cause for celebration.  I am glad that your friends are supportive.

Age is no barrier to transition or to happiness.  I am 64 and loving my life.

Congratulations Sarah. That is the way to know if so-called friends really are true friends and yours clearly are!

I am sure you will continue to enjoy the benefits of HRT and as Davina says, it often makes us look younger.

Coincidentally I am another 63 year old.

Hugs

Pamela

Congratulations from another 60 something girl Sarah. It was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders when I came out. I'm sure you must be feeling wonderful now too?

As for "Cue The Music", I like to change the words a little to one of Pinks songs. You know the one I'm talking about.

"I'm coming out so you better get this party started." Go Sarah! "I'm coming out so you better get this party started."

Get this party started!
Donica.

@SarahFehrman
Dear Sarah:
As you have undoubtedly discovered that there is nothing more liberating that coming out and revealing your "secret" to others.  It is like a big heavy weight is lifted off of your shoulders.  It is good that you received supportive acceptance from your two friends.  Now, every time you come out to more people it will get easier and easier each time...  obviously there will be those that will not accept your transition announcement and your transition goals, but stay determined and focus and keep on keeping on.

Thank you for coming back to the forums to post your terrific news about your FOUR MONTH journey on HRT.   As you feel so led I would love to hear about your HRT experiences so far.

I am wishing you well and will eagerly looking for your future postings around the forums.
Hugs,
Danielle

Thank you, as always, sweetie! With you and the others who have reached out to me here and them, I'm beginning to feel like I actually have a group of girlfriends and we're all on this journey together. What a lovely feeling! Like everyone else, I'm wishing I'd done this so long ago (you ladies who are in your 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's, make the most of it.) Who knows - maybe we'll find that transitioning later in life will actually help us to live longer. I'd love to be a feisty but loving old broad like my grandmother was (she proudly wore that title!)! She almost made 90. ❤️[emoji182]

Hi Sonja -

It really does make a difference. I'm feeling more confident every day, and it's nice to have a couple of girlfriends nearby to share the changes with. Well, one lives in England but comes over frequently. I'm starting to feel like a little girl waiting for Christmas!

I think you're right! It's so nice to see the real woman inside emerge from within and take her place physically rather than just from without with clothing and cosmetics. It's been so long in coming.

Hi Alice -
The more light we can share, the better. You ladies all give me hope and I hope I can do that for someone as well.

Hi KathyLauren -
I feel like I'm at the top of a pro level ski run – a little bit scared, a little frisson of terror and a whole lot of exhilaration! Talk about a new life beginning - I know it's not always easy - my journey sure hasn't been, but there's something magical about the real person beginning to come out. It's been such a long time. I'm so grateful for everyone's sweet support!

Hi Danica - the weight is definitely getting lighter. Now, if only I can find some cute shoes! I was actually thinking of the Diana Ross song, but your idea is great, too!
