Title: The mob
Post by: Megan. on October 24, 2018, 12:51:14 PM
In the last week I have seen more attacks and hatred on members of this site come from within than have ever come from any politician. I am disgusted.

I hope many of you see me as a calm and sensible voice of reason.

I don't care what a persons political bias is, if they are decent, then they won't attack others purely on the basis of a different opinion. My opinion of many here has been gravely damaged.

I first came to this site more than a decade ago. It was a community focused on the support of others, not attacking them.

Please leave politics at the door.

Agreed.

We aren't each other's enemy.  Anyone trying to get us to view each other as such might just be though.

I've been staying away from the political threads mostly.  Unfortunately I can't say I'm surprised.  The vitriol merely was hiding just below the surface.  This too will pass and people will return to more normal behavior, I hope.  It's just hard when it's such a personal issue and many are very legitimately scared.

One side recieved the rights to attack second one, and second one was told to shut up and dealt with it. What could go wrong lol :)
Politics so dirty, it killing best of us.

Btw, can somebody help me to understand what exactly so awful happened briefly and with simple words without quoting entire article and starting another holy war (we have 3 topics of this already) ? You know, I having troubles with big text :)

Thank you ladies for stating your concerns, on this thread, of which I fully agree.

As I had mentioned in my thread and on other various threads I am very, very concerned about how the recent activities on the political threads here and the rancorous attitudes of some of the contributing members on those threads is denigrating and disparaging to the very nature of Susan's Place being a welcoming, friendly, happy, and safe place for the transgender members.

I am most shocked and dismayed about reading that "the other side is not welcome and not permitted to voice their opinions.
How is that attitude even acceptable to any fair minded and tolerant person that should be willing to debate both sides of an issue in a cordial and respectable way?

Not all Democrats are in lockstep, and not all are lefty-loonies, ....   and not all Republicans are in lockstep and are not all right wing zealots.   That is why tolerant and respectful discussion and debate is so important, to try to come to an amicable agreement on various issues.

My advice for myself is for now is what I stated on my personal thread and elsewhere, I am staying far away from the political threads, hopefully all of this will blow over in due time and we can all get back in the business of being in our transgender and transition journey, the very thing that this site was founded on.

I trust that you will be patient and as I am doing, will wait this out to hopefully see a favorable resolution.
For me, I have a lot of my personal time vested here in the forums and I have developed many good like-minded friends that we can each mutually share our thoughts regarding our journeys  and encourage and inspire one another.  I do not want to see all of that go away.

Please hang in there for now.
Best wishes...   for all of us.
Hugs,
Danielle

I'm heartened to hear that some voices of moderation still exist here.

I'll settle down in my bunker and hope normal service resumes sooner rather than later. A hibernation may be in order!

I am watching this with great concern as well. While I do appreciate opening up to discuss politics - especially the actions of the current US Administration targeting transgender - I have hoped not to see people attacking each other. We all share a common trait that we fall somewhere under the transgender umbrella. To accomplish anything, we need to stick together not fight each other.

Personal attacks just do not belong on this site. We are a colorful bunch with many different backgrounds and lives. We are here due to our commonality.

Like others, I hope that not too many members got hurt in the process and I hope we can get back to a constructive discussion again. With or without politics.

Hugs

Agree.  I tried to interject and drive constructive approaches to the concerns, but I may not be explaining the idea well because it still devolves into attack and defend from the responses.  I don't come across textually like I intend, I think.

I'm out.  I do not like the denigration.  :icon_love:

Politics and religion are the two topics that divide people successfully. Family, friends, and everything else. As long as we keep this in mind and do not let it happen we can be successful.
