Title: seat/shoulder belts and tender breasts
Post by: snbab on November 11, 2018, 03:58:58 PM
Not sure if this is the correct forum, mods please move if needed.

Ok, so my breasts and nipples are very sensitive and tender. Yet still need to wear seat belts for safety.

Please any advice on what to do, or what you have tried, to help limit the pain and discomfort you have from seat/shoulder belts contacting and rubbing on your breasts and nipples.

I can't  keep holding my hand between them and the belt while driving.

A bra will help keep the seat belt from hurting as much. Eventually this too shall pass.

You did not mention if you were wearing a bra of any kind...  A support sports bra, not a thin cotton one,  and a heavier top like a sweatshirt will probably alleviate the problem.

This is a problem that a lot of cis-women also have...  most states have quite strict seat belt laws that require proper fastening and use....  unless you a have a doctor's note you can still get a costly ticket.... all depends on the policeman's mood and your responses to questions.

I have a friend back home that has breast cancer treatments and her breasts were very, very sore and raw, and she moved the seat belt strap that usually goes between the breasts to her side and under her arm.... she got stopped and was given a $160 ticket, the cop was not a nice man.  She and her husband contacted their female state senator and she got the ticket reversed and the cop got a reprimand....   true story.

If the pain is extreme Nursing Pads & Shields will help. You will have to wear a bra of some kind to use this method.

Thank you all for your replies and advice.
As for bras, currently not wearing any do to problem with shoulder straps. Have another post about that.
So far I have tried a light jacket while it was cooler. That helped. Yesterday was a warmer day, so only had t-shirt and normal shirt on. That's when I was reminded of this issue.🤔
Luckily it is getting cooler I suppose.

Oh I understand about proper use and placement of the lap and shoulder belts. I was a school bus driver for spacial needs. We had to be very careful about the placement. Improper placement can cause injury, sometimes permanent doing an accident.
During my younger days, had a car with separate belts, kept the shoulder one off because I couldn't reach things. Almost had my nose broken on the steering wheel during a accident. So I wear them properly even with discomfort  now, no matter what.
Not sure what I would do in your friends place, or having a cast or other injuries.
Many (including law enforcement) can only see one way to do things no matter what. I have learned there are always some other way to do it, or why it should be changed.

The seatbelt should be in the center of your chest. If your short, often the belt doesn't fit correctly and you should consider something like a seatbelt extender (https://www.seatbeltextenderpros.com/shop-extenders-by-car?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIudeIsNbN3gIVmPhkCh1Cwwf4EAAYASAAEgJE6_D_BwE). There are other choices to purchase them but this site had a good picture of one in use.

Thank you Dena,
The shoulder strap crosses over my shoulder, the top part of my left breast, then bottom part of my right breast, maybe an inch below the nipple.
I took a picture of myself and noticed my right breast/nipple is a bit lower then my left one.

What causes me problems is when I drive over bumps, or rough roads. I am driving a semi truck with air ride seat, so it moves up and down to compensate for the bumps. Only my right breast/nipple gets impacted.

As for the seatbelts extender and the web site, will need to keep this info for when I get a car again.

During the warmest summer days I often drive home from work topless and the edge of the belt rubs right against my right nipple. This is fun for about 5 minutes, then I have to adjust the strap higher, over the top of both breasts. If your rig has an adjustment on the door post for height, try moving that up or down. My previous car had adjustments on both ends, allowing me to position the strap more verticle.
