Dr. Becky on her page recently has said that the Illinois Birth Certificates that the department of health is releasing has the old name and gender marker on the document appearing, but crossed out. Instead of a document with just the new name and new gender marker.
Can anybody recently changed their birth certificate in Illinois confirm this. I am extremely worried because it seems Illinois keeps taking steps backwards with regards to this issue. I don't want my old identity appearing on my new birth certificate when I finish transition. Please somebody tell me she put this up based on a clerical error that somebody went through. Somebody who recently (as of 2007) changed this document tell me if this is in fact the case?

No this is not correct...well...it's mixing facts up actually.
When you change only your name on an Illinois birth certificate they line through the old name and amend the new name to the same document...so that does happen...but when you provide a certified letter from your SRS surgeon, they change the name and gender and issue a new birth certificate and seal the old one. That is what the statue says at least...
As as a side note...Illinois will only recognize SRS performed by a doctor licensed in the United States...so keep that in mind too.

You can be a foreign doctor and still be licensed in the US; like Brassard (who is licensed in the US).
For awhile he was the only one accepted in Illinois. There may be others now. Ummm, it's been 8-10 months since I read anything about that though.
Brassard is the only one since the current system makes it easy for US and Canadian professionals (Doctors and Lawyers) to be licensed in each others country. It is very easy for a Canadian doctor to get a US license since many US doctors go to medical school in Canada and many Canadian doctors go to medical school in the US.
As it stands though Brassard is the only one doing SRS though.
