Hello everyone. I am starting my transition later in life....later than most that I have read about on the internet. I am 49 years old and am currently in Houston Texas. I have known I was a woman since the age of 5. It has been a very long road for me that included 26 years in the military trying to be super macho. (It didn't work). I receive my medical care through the Department of Veteran Affairs and I have recently requested HRT. I am still waiting for my intake interview. I hope all goes well with that. That's a little about me and I hope to learn, discuss, cry, and share with others on here. I know this is going to be a long walk and I don't want to do it alone.
Thanks
Jenny
Hi Jenny, welcome to Susan's Place! There are plenty of people here over 49, the late bloomers. I assume you're a veteran, thank you for your service. We have a veterans thread: Roll Call! (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,96755.0.html)
See you around the site!
Hugs, Devlyn
Hi, Jenny!
Welcome to Susan's Place.
Thank you for joining us. There are many of us older folks here. I am 64. And many of us are ex-military. Trying to be macho didn't work for us either. So relax, you are in good company.

Hi Jenny & welcome!
You'll find lots of folks here who came out or began their transitions later in life. My medical transition started last year at age 54 and I've been full-time out at work for only about two weeks. It's nice to (virtually) meet you & best of luck with whatever steps you choose (or don't choose) to take in your transition! :)

Hi Jenny, I can relate to many of your feelings. I'm 56 and just now started taking my long journey. I missed many opportunities early in my life with some regret. I also parallel your trying to compensate your inner feelings by trying to be that "uber masculine" superhero. I did the same growing up taking on predominantly male stereotypical roles. I too had to prove my toughness and my outlet was wrestling in jr high and high school and then lifting weights after that. It was a crazy time. Two inner lives in one body. Now, I'm trying to join the two into one through transition. It's working. I love what is happening to my mind, body and spirit. I hope you have this same experience. I would enjoy chatting with you anytime.
Take care,
Susan R🌷
Hi Jen, It can be done. I was 64 when I finally got confirmation for what I have known all my life. The last two and a half years without the need to hide, meeting people just like me for the first time, making friendships. Something that was almost impossible for me. That was my experience. I hope yours are just as important to you. Hugs
Hi Jenny!
Welcome! May you find your happy place, where you can just be yourself!
