I have been cleaning today and found some old clothes of mine.
I have been cosidering donatig them to goodwill but some maybe I should keep just in case I need to crawl in a basement or somthing.
It gave me pause to stir while I was looking at them. It made me remember how much I disliked wearing them.
I never liked those clothes, even the stylish ones. tehy never felt like me, and I always felt like I was wearing them out of requirement rather than enjoyment.
They are good clothes, but they just never did feel right.
So now I dont know what I will do with them.
I probably will donate the ones that are good. And keep a pair of old pants or two for sliding (a type of skateboarding). The rest I suppose I will toss, if they aren't any good or worth donating.
What about the rest of you?
Ever get a few jackets from those you love that you would no longer wear?
I have my dads Charhart field jacket and I will keep it because it reminds me of him (sigh ) what bout the rest? I have a few nice jackets that I would never really wear unless I had to because they are not me. Perhaps I will just hang on to them for a while and see if it (one in particular) comes in handy.
Hhm.
Do you guys do anything in particular with your old stuff? hang on to it? Give it away?
I think it would be interesting to make a patchwork quilt out of my old clothes. That would be nice..^_^
Sarah
The patchwork quilt idea sounds cool. I used to have a gym bag that was made that way. I don't have to worry about my old clothes though. I'm sure my ex sent them to Goodwill a long time ago.
Karen Lyn
I give them to the lady that cleans my flat.
Gave it all to my wife's nephews and their friends.
I kept a suit for a few months when I first started transitioning... just in case. But that too went before long.
I have nothing left From Before ;)
~Kate~
Greetings,
Originally I donated them to the local thrift store...now when I find the rare piece of "yuck" clothing...it now just goes straight into the trash can...wasteful I know...but I don't want them around at all.
Peace and love,
Isabelle St-Pierre
I gave them to Good Will.
Cindi
I am not FT yet but still got prepped for it by giving to Goodwill 13 bags of clothes I wouldn't give my friends or family. I gave my brother some of my pants & a few cuff links. I gave my bro in law some diesel jeans. A lot of the cuff links and some other pants and shirts are going to Guymade from Susan's :) I figure I might as well give some of my stuff to a valued friend too! I've adopted a somewhat androgenous style so I don't have many guy clothes left. Once I transition, I'll probably have 2 bags of clothes to give away and that's it.
In the end, don't just assume no one will want your things. Invite family & friends to go through and take what they want before giving to charity :) Meghan
I gave tons and tons of clothes, dozens of pants and dozens of shirts, 2-3 coats, etc, most in pretty good shape, to my best friend. He won't have to buy clothes for the next 10 years!! The clothes was in pretty good shape because I had so many that I could wear something different for 3-4 weeks and not have to do laundry!! I don't know why I bought so much clothes; its not even that they were that different from each other.
What my best friend couldn't wear I sent to goodwill.
Some more expensive pieces I sold, like a leather coat I sold for $150 that had cost me $500.
I still have a very expensive $1000 dollar suit and pant combo I'm soon to depart with for $200.
I gave all my clothes to a charity shop.
When I transitioned I ceremoniuosly cut up and burned all the ties, no man should ever be forced to wear them.
Rebecca
REally?
Couldn't you have it taylored into a Womens Pantsuit?
Might be worth it over a thousand dollar suit.
I gave to goodwill also. Just remember to get a receit.
Sheila
I threw my old clothes in the trash, 90% of it was worn out anyway.
Men's and women's suit are so different in cut that retailoring would be expensive and hard.
The suit was also way too large which makes the retailoring so much harder. I estimate
at least $200-250 to make it look half decent on my now size 10 frame.
Anyway, I've got bad memories related to it, so better it go.
I take them to my local Parish.
tink :icon_chick:
I kept a couple of fuzzy sweatshirts for days like this (it's raining), but everything else went straight to Goodwill. And it's a write off too.
Well, except for my biker leathers, the boy clothes all went to charity, a long time ago. I do have a pair of grubbies for painting, cleaning, but they are girl's. Anything I don't want anymore goes to charity shops, unless it cant be repaired of has paint on it. Haven't decided what to do with my leathers, don't have a bike anymore (yet), but I think trading the black for a color would be fun.
you can take boy blue jeans and sew them in to a really cute looking skirt.
heck, even my clothing can transistion with me ;-)
I've given clothes to local churches. There's also Sylvia's Place in NYC, they get clothing to trans people in need. I'll donate to them next time I have clothes that I don't need anymore. http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewThread&entryID=42994049&categoryID=0&IsSticky=0&groupID=101086791&Mytoken=A5EEDC3E-1DAA-43AD-8781CF031330252849150910 (http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewThread&entryID=42994049&categoryID=0&IsSticky=0&groupID=101086791&Mytoken=A5EEDC3E-1DAA-43AD-8781CF031330252849150910)

My old guys cloths I donated them to some of the (trans) men I knew. Gave them to goodwill, and threw them out.
I have girl cloths that I just don't like got packed away in my closet. I don't wear them anyway.
threw the teeshirts and stuff out, kept some of the jeans, made a skirt out of one pair. kept my hoodies ^_^, made a scoopneck top out of one sweatshirt. kept my sneakers and boots .
most of my stuff was andro anyway, i did keep my favourite metalica tee, which once fitted, is now an oversize sleepshirt for the baby rock chick's beddybies :P
R :police:
I did dressmaking for years and have period correct 18th century clothing made of vary expensive silk. I still have all that stuff but will never wear it again. Anything cheap I threw out, expensive stuff like a blue lamb skin jacket I still have. I really want to get rid of it but I want it to go to someone who will care for it. There's just one problem...I don't know of any guy who can fit into my old stuff. It's just too small, but I'll keep it for a bit longer before I give up hope.
I gave them away and threw them away. Actually it was my moms idea to do that. I had the lighter fluid and matches ready for them but the alternative sounded safer and more productive so I went with my moms idea. ;)
I think my old-old roommates still have them in a bag somewhere -- they were supposed to go through them, but never did. I might go back and get them and see if Trevor can fit anything (Trev is going to be my new roommate, he's FtM, so he'd like the clothes if he can find something he likes). I'll have to call up those guys and actually see if they did anything with that bag, or if it's still in the storage room long forgotten.
My one of my current roommates took one of my hoodies that I had. I tried it on a couple of months ago, and it's like a tent on me. LOL But she loves the hoodie. It's years old, but a good one!
I still have some pants, a shirt, and an old jacket around here that I intended to alter into girl clothes -- expensive, but cool ones. That never happened. Sometimes I put them on for fun, they are way to big now and it reminds me how much I changed and how far I've gotten.... it's good for those days when you feel down. I look silly in the clothes now. And, in a weird way, they excentuate my feminine features and show just how silly putting on old guy clothes looks. It gives me a laugh for a bit, and I visually see how far I've come, and I feel better about things.

PS I now have the problem of trying to get rid of old girl clothes! I have a lot of stuff that I no longer fit. Some stuff I purposely tried to shrink so I could keep wearing it. Like my hoodie and a couple of shirts. None of my old jeans fit. I finally got a new pair of jeans that actually fits (it's smaller), and I have black cords that I always wear to work (cause I have to wear black pants). A ton of my clothes have stopped fitting in the last couple of months, and I haven't had time/cash to get a lot of new stuff. Although, I'm slowly building my collection up again. When I move on the 1st I'm going to have to go through all of my old stuff and figure out what to do with it, etc.
goodwill. several gar-baj bags
i kept some of my t-shirts and flannels and non-gender specific stuff, but otherwise it went bye bye.
I just throw my old clothes in the bin.
That's so wired Natalie...cuz a while ago I put on my old suit from the 70's "no I'm not that old I just liked the tighter fit of 70's clothes" and It was so big and baggy. I don't think I've lost weight, but It just looked funny on me. But I remember I use to love that suit and though it looked so good, I guess I've changed :)
some things are fun to keep, i did keep my suit shirt and tie, mainly for lols.... i put it on once (recently) and 2 of my girlfriends just laughed thier butts off... apparnently i looked like a dyke at worst >< its nice to see the difference :D (ill get rid of it eventually)

Gave them to my FTM friend.
I was gonna say find a FTM and trade for there old stuff if you two are around the same size.
lol
That would be a good idea.
Mara got me one of those jean skirts that people are talking about from old jeans-
Its really cute. I want to learn how to make one.
I'm not so great at sewing but I don't have a sewing machine so I don't know if I can do it by hand or not.
I think I want to take up quilting.
I like quilting.
Quilts are fun.

The most horrid article of clothing ever created.
Hey, you lost out, 80's fashion could come back.
With silk ties, why not refashion them as head bands, or hair bands.
I still got some for that purpose.
Oh that's a good idea!
Headbands! I never thought of that!
Some of them anyway. I have no need for a plaid headband (yuck!)
But that makes me want to go to the thrift store to bus some ties for crafting!
Yay!
Go Keira!
Queen of Crafting!
Sara
im sitting here in one of my old teeshirts... its a DKNY... and i havent the heart to throw it out... its sortof cut like scrubs, so its more andro, just huge :D

We threw out or gave away all my old clothes long ago. I didn't keep anything for 'crawling in the basement'. After a long enough time with an all female wardrobe, you will have plenty of old GIRLS clothes (or in my case, old girl CLOTHES) to go crawling in the basement with.
I recently had that very nasty opportunity. But I'll tell you....I was the most feminine-dressed, pistol-toting pest control agentess you ever saw. Better you crawl back out with your female tee and jeans mucked up, and still be yourself. Where did all those work clothes comes from when you were sort of a guy? From doing dirty jobs. So, make new work clothes...female work clothes.
I never get jackets from relatives etc.........everyone knows better.
A patchwork quilt? All I have to do is look over old pictures. My life is a patchwork quilt.
Bev
I've had mostly female clothes since 1984......so I can only throw those out..
I gave my long winter coat to my brother. I gave many t-shirts to my brother's friends and brothers themselves, same for pants. I threw away my shoes (they were due to get replacements anyway), threw away my socks, threw away my underwear. I got rid of all boy clothes by around one month full-time.
For the very few pieces remaining, I traded them (mainly a pair of jeans I didn't have at the time I got rid of my clothes) with a FtM. Since he gave me way more clothes (and even shoes), I gave him a medieval cape I had bought for a nice price, to make the trade even.
I went full-time mid-April 2006. By mid-June 2006 I had no single 'male' item of clothing and a decent-sized female wardrobe. Now I feel my wardrobe lacks in size :P but back then that same wardrobe was bigger than my old one had been (and I got a bit more than then, now...I just want more hehe).
well if anyone has anything nice, 40inch waist, wide shoulders, medium legs....english size 20 I guess....
bring em in.
I went from a 34 inch to 28 inch waist during transition so it didn't make sense to keep them. Off to Goodwill.
Hi Schala, what did she do with the other seven shoes that went with the first seven? "Hee, hee, hee." just ribin you. When I came out full time it was quite spontaneous I went home as my other self that evening and came out of my apartment the next morning as Cindy. I had two garbage bags in my hands containing everything I had that was male things and went to Salvation Army and exchanges the two bags of men's stuff for some ladies clothes. When I cam out on the job later that day I had a really surprise reception. The girls gave me a lot of stuff they weren't wearing anymore. I didnt have the luxury to buy a whole lot back then I was only working on part time job, but it was a job I loved.
Cindy
Yeah I got given a lot by acquaintances too, all girls who were going to throw it away anyway. Some of it is a bit too big, but beggars can't be choosers I guess.
I was already at 26 inch waist pre-transition. I went down to 25 inch.
I could wear size 12 girl clothes...but its too short. Size 14, might be too short too. Size 16, might be a bit big. Women's clothes, well its hard to find 1-2 size clothes...so I'm stuck shopping at teen shops, because children departments seem to carry little stuff for girls my size, and adults rarely have my size either >_>
...and I wanted those cute Hello Kitty panties too! but only in size 4, 6, 8 girl (I couldnt really squeeze into size 8 without leaving marks)...I'm sure in Japan they have it in adult size.
Heck, there are Hello Kitty wedding dresses.
Hi Schala
I wear 14 girls or 8 women if I can find slacks that are not to long on the legs. Petite in shirts and tops. I like tops better the opposite to when I was when I aw still the other persona. I wear 8 shoes, hmmmm ain't it no wonder I had a hard time to find anything that fit me in men's. I'm short stuff 5' 3" and 125 lbs and 36B bras. Got long hair to but I think yours is probably some longer then mine.
Cindy
5'6", 111 lbs and 34A bras.
Size 1-2 or extra-small in US sizes, I don't know for elsewhere. Swimsuit/dress I'd probably be an 8 too. Shoes size 9 (though I can wear 8½ too - US shoe size, too).
My hair last I checked was 31 inch long, about waist length.
Nothing in men's, or boy's fit. It was all too baggy and too big. I was wearing medium, large and extra-large t-shirts pre-transition.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a213/Sara_Zeal/Photo005.jpg (http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a213/Sara_Zeal/Photo005.jpg)
This is a medium men's t-shirt shortly before transition. It went to mid-thigh. My waist is at my elbow's length. And if you notice, I had some nail polish on, I didn't show it while outside, but didn't mind if inside (meaning inside but elsewhere, not at home).
The t-shirts easily hid my small waist. The pants...well, without a very tight belt, and I seldom wore belts unless I really had to, would fall off. I'd have to bring them back up (not from the ground, but they would ride down gradually) every 5 minutes, while at work. Never had such an issue with women's pants, though they also fit.
I wore all black because I didn't really care what I wore. It didn't matter since it wasn't me. Black t-shirts helped make me more invisible. Though I might have been taken for a goth by some.
Hi again Schala. Yes I have a hard time finding slacks with the legs that don't drag on the ground, now that is annoying. So at times it spells taking a trip to the seamstress to get them adjusted. But at one time I disliked and cursed my Royal pain in the butt shortness. but today I am ever grateful for the size I am, I am exactly where I am meant to be. Even having the problem with pant leg length is only a trivial irritation. Anyway if someone tries to peg a rock at me I could always duck behind Wing Walker
Cindy
I wouldn't mind being shorter, 5-6 inches shorter maybe. I feel like a child, and at this height I'd probably pass for one :P I already pass for young enough as it is.
I feel so tall when my mom is only 5'2".
My issue is pant legs aren't long enough. They weren't really too long pre-transition, though I had to roll them sometimes. They aren't long enough when I want children sizes, girl size 12 fits my waist, but is way too short. I'd take full length and they'd look like capris...
I don't fit any size chart perfectly. Hips too small, too tall, bust too small (though less than hips). Apparently a size 1 is someone with 32/24/34, and I'm 32/25/32...so yeah 2 inch loose at the hips. Though I get confused about things like some pants work size by hips, so I can take very small sizes, and some by real waist, so I have to take a bit bigger, and I never know til I try them.
Hi Schala when I meet tall people I am tempted to ask them how the weather is at that altitude ;D I fit right under Wing Walkers arm when I stand beside her and I need a stool to kick a duck in the butt, "quack, quack!!!!". My measurements are 36 - 34 - 36. At least I am not like a broom stick I was before I started transitioning. Some of that bread basket needs to get gone. Well I did start exercising today.
Cindy
