Question for those ladies who wear glasses, How do you manage to do your makeup when you can't see without your glasses? I find this to be very frustrating.

I use a 10x magnification lighted makeup mirror. Eyeliner would be impossible without it.
I've also seen special reading glasses type for makeup. The lenses fold down so you can see out of one eye while applying to the other

I will have to get me a mirror like that. I am not really up to wanting to use contacts and stick something in my eye. although doing makeup would be easier I suspect.
Anyone know whether or not laser is an option for vision correction? I know HRT will change my eyes to some extent and I have heard having laser surgery before being on hormones for a while can actually have negative affects on vision.

Those fold down lenses sound like a great option. Can use them whenever/wherever you need to apply or freshen up the makeup.

Help from lasik for close up vision would depend on your age mostly. If you're at the point where you need reading glasses (usually starts around 40) I don't think it will fix that.
They offered to do one eye to 20/40 to help with that but that seemed later best like just delaying the inevitable readers and then your eyes would be different so would have to get them made. That was over 15 years ago when I had it, maybe there is something better now.

I have the makeup problem, too. And I have a magnifier mirror. Te only thing it does for me provide me with a larger foggy image of my face.
I am even considering to have permanent eye makeup tattooed onto my lids and under the eye. Wouldn't it be nice to wake up in the morning and have already the perfect eye makeup?
Being short-sighted means if I keep my face close enough to the mirror everything's fine.
I love wearing my glasses and see them as an essential fashion accessory.

I used to be shortsighted (-11 left and -12.5 right) ! I had to wear glasses from the age of 9 until the age of 62!
his was another good reason for the other kids to make fun of me!
I got inter-ocular lenses at 62, and can see better than a hawk since then. I need glasses for reading (and makeup), but I can live with that.
My vision is bad enough that my lenses are very thick and heavy. Glasses slide all around and annoy the crap out of me after a while.
I'm 29. I don't know how that would affect laser eye procedures. I do know that after seeing that movie "Final Destination" that I am scared of the idea though. That film gave me nightmares for a long time.

Oh dear! Poor Olivia In Final Destination 5. I always thought she looked beautiful in glasses and could never understand why she would need laser correction.
Those movies are enough to freak anybody out. (I thought the earlier ones were the best.)
Lisa, my eyesight needs only thin lenses, but if they were thick and heavy I would understand wanting to get rid of them. Having a heavy frame/lens resting on the nose all day is tiring.

My eyes were always so bad that the military did not even want me to be drafted!
But the thickness of the lenses (the dioptrins) are not the problem, the curvature and skew of your eye (partly astigmatism) is the bigger problem. Any laser eye specialist will do a free of cost exam and determines whether Lasik or related procedures can be done with your eyes.
The process itself is pain free and very accurate. It is computer controlled, and mistakes are hardly possible.
Because of my astigmatism, I could not have it done.
I had conventional surgery done to my eyes. Which means, they cut my eyeball open, ripped the old lens out of it and put a new, artificial lens back in. It had to heal for about 8 days, and my eye patch was removed. For me it was as if the world all of a sudden was being shown to me in the newest technicolor technology! It was just a dream, after a life with glasses (first thing on in the morning, last thing off at night), I was liberated!
The biggest sensation was feeling wind hitting my eyes. I never had wind hitting my eyes from the front in almost 60 years, I could not remember the feeling of it. It was almost overwhelming for me!
Go get your eyes looked at, you still can feel wind on your eyes when you are relatively young!

And what is even better, the technology was invented/developed in our labs. I knew the principal investigator/leader of the program pretty well!
I was blessed to work for 36 years in one of the greatest medical research/development labs in this world!
I don't have a good solution for this but it's a problem for me too. If I get up close enough to the mirror without my glasses I can see details but lose the "big picture" so I just have to keep putting on my glasses and taking them off, etc
I've tried contacts before but can't seem to wear them very long without getting irritated, but maybe I could just get contacts for doing makeup :P

That might be the solution! Some cheap ones, because you would not wear them more than an hour or two each day!
I don't know if they have contacts for working at the computer. We got glasses given at work for this, they might be able to have that strength with contacts, too?
I cannot remember where I came across the information, but the article had mentioned that you should not have any eye surgery for at least 5 years after you are on full dose HRT. In that time your eyes can change shape and your vision can also change. Sometimes better, sometimes worse and sometimes no change.
But make sure you look into the Effects of HRT on your eyesight before thinking of any vision procedure. Also make sure you tell the doctor how long you have been on HRT so they can determine the effects.
Would be terrible to have a procedure to fix the issue and then your eyes keep changing
I had laser eye surgery and am very weird about messing with my eyes. They gave me a Valium a little before hand, and I didn't care what they did. My partner sat there and watched my surgery on a monitor in the waiting room, the weirdo. lol I can't even think of watching that stuff. After about 5 years they are starting to get a bit worse, but theoretically I have a guarantee of redo. I just have to go tell them I have 'she' eyes now instead of 'he' eyes. Also not sure of the advisability of repeated surgery. If I had to do it over, I would go with the artificial (expensive) lenses instead of modifying mine. Best thing I ever did. Scratch that, second best. ;D

And that is what I have had done. I am living with the new lenses now for about 5 years, and I still can see like a hawk!
For reading i buy those cheap reading glasses when they are on sale, and I have a pair laying in almost every room of the house and a set in the car.
I wish, I would have had the lens replacement many years ago, it is such an improvement of my quality of life!

Have the lens replacement also but not by choice. About 10 years after my lasik I developed cataracts. Better vision after the cataract surgery than after lasik. If anyone is wondering, there is no link between the two, just something that happened to me. I did ask about that when the cataracts came up. The unusual thing about it is that I was still in my forties when I got them. I needed readers before but I get by with lower power ones now than before.
I get them at the dollar store so don't fret none when I break or lose a pair.
