I know I am probably violating TOS with this.

First presidential funeral train in 49 years. Making history today.

By my understanding, you're not breaking the TOS. I believe people are allowed to bypass the TOS in their replies to this, though.

I love that it's locomotive 4141. I'm old enough to remember Robert Kennedy's funeral train.

I understand the locomotive 4141 will be retired have it's engine and generator removed and then be placed on display at the Bush library. They may also removed the electric traction motors that turn the wheels. All these parts are expensive and would be reused on ordinary freight locomotives of the same type. The Bush 4141 is a SD70ACE built by EMD.

Devlyn, I am happy to share my knowledge. I've been interested in the railways for many years.

The crew of this train are vets from the Navy and have been with the UPRR for 15 and 23 years respectfully. The engineer happens to be female which makes me smile. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/navy-veterans-crew-george-hw-bushs-historic-presidential/story?id=59650849

Lots of love.

After the train hit the dog they broke off from the train camera. I could just kinda make out the helicopter crew discussing whether or not the train hit a child or a dog through the static. A large black dog ran out in front of the train.  :'(

Devlyn, I have some corrections to make from info I have obtained through research.

UP Heritage unit 1943 was sent to Navasota from Spring Tx via the Eureka Sub (the old SP main), and told to hold short of Navasota Jct., where the MP, AT&SF and SP lines all come together. They stopped a couple of miles short of the Jct, where they could not be seen by either train as it went by. UP put it and a second unit there for protection power, so that if anything happened to 4141, they would still be able to have a special engine on the point in College Station.

Since nothing happened, after the funeral train and the pilot train were consolidated and heading north, 1943 and its yellow mate, went back to Spring Tx, where it was scheduled out on a northbound today Dec 8th.

On a side note, 1943 was reported to have left Spring Tx with 3 yellow mates, but only had one when standing by outside of Navasota. Makes you wonder if UP had a second set of protection power standing by somewhere else as well? UP was taking no chances on the Bush funeral train. They took every precaution they could.

I am trying to find out more on the dog that ran out in front of the 4141. I love dogs and just need to know.
