Title: Have you, as mtf, had your first feminine hairstyling done?
Post by: ChrissyRyan on January 07, 2019, 07:09:10 PM
Have you, as mtf, had your first feminine hairstyling done?

It is a very gender affirming experience!   :)

I am looking forward to the next time.

Yes, I have had two wigs styled, and my own hair trimmed.  The stylist was very helpful.  She was also very good, important when trimming a wig!

I have been having my hair done for a couple of years now. Sometimes just trims or styling, other times adding color. It is very similar yet different than getting a man's haircut. The biggest difference is the banter that goes on with my stylist and any other women within earshot. It is a great opportunity to get some serious girl talk practice. It is a lot of fun as well as stretching of comfort zones letting your stylist talk you into some new looks.

Enjoy the challenges,
Tia Anne

I have not, and it's killing me.  But I just know that would lead to domestic problems.  Also, with receding hairlines and very thin hair, I represent a considerable challenge for a stylist.

The girl talk would not work around here, if you don't speak Spanish.  The hair business seem s to be in the hand of Latinos around here, the Asians are doing the nails, the Latinos work on the hair!

I plan to go for the first time in mid January, by that time my hair should be long enough for a stylist to do something with it, at least I hope so!

I had a color and trim done a few months back where the colorist took my natural outer blond highlights down through the inner layers of my hair and trimmed an inch or two off the tips.

It was a wonderful experience, and my wife says it's time to go back and do it again,😁

I haven't. I am thinking about it. I want to grow it out longer. I keep the dead ends trimmed and am focusing on the health of my hair.

That said, I have plenty of hair to get a cute style done. I may have it done right before I start going full time. That may be happening sooner than later.

Your hair is way longer than mine.  They could do something really nice with it!

No one is touching my hair lol...
Don't mind the messy frizz, I haven't washed it in a week (I'm not dirty I promise)... I'm way over due for a deep conditioning!! [emoji26](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190108/f11c3f9d5af024a18698696d90319f31.jpg)

The dermatology researchers in our labs told me that hair should be washed max once a month to stay really healthy!

Everything more washes all the essential natural oils out and leads to split tips.  To overcome this a little, people put new artificial oils back in that are called conditioner, and are not half as good as the natural stuff!

When you have pretty hair as you do, don't let anyone "mess" with it!   :)

Although I am sure many would like to touch it!

No. I just don't cut it. Colour it here at home. I'll consider cutting it a bit in another year or so when its about mid back or so.

It's washed now [emoji4] I usually can't go longer than a week but I have gone about 2 before...

I have it easy that way.  My hair is so straight, it could be used to straighten out slightly bent rulers!  It is not possible to mess it up, because it seems to be able to withstand anything that would try to make it less straight!

Dietlind, the information from your labs is just what I needed. I've been going longer and longer between shampooing mainly to make the color last longer (and using a shampoo for color treated hair); plus I already knew that shampooing does a little damage and makes a little hair fall out every time you use it. I'm up to about a week, but I didn't know if going too long might do more harm than good. It will be hard to go a month, especially since I exercise almost every day. But I'm going to try. I'd imagine most women shampoo every day, especially if they're going to work? Fortunately, I'm self employed and don't really care if it looks scraggley in boy mode. Does anyone know if dry shampoos also strip the hair of oils? Also, I guess it's OK to use conditioner as often as desired (though you must lose some hairs just by massaging the conditioner in and rinsing it out)?

In reality, if you think about the reason why we wash our hair?  It is not really that dirty in one week (as long as we don't get it filth through work), it is because he cosmetic industry and clever marketing has told us that beautiful hair has to blow in the wind like angel feathers (or something like this), which means, we have to work hard to get all natural oils out of it! Those oils do not only make our hair kind of stick together, but they also keep the tips sticking nicely to their own fiber strands, which means, we don't have to constantly be cutting off broken pieces of our hair!

Now, if you use the dry shampoo, it is also designed to remove natural oils to give the hair the freshly washed look.  And his is done with similar stripping chemicals like the ones, one uses for greasy surfaces.  I personally think that dry shampoo might be even worse for our hair than washing it.

I think one can put as much conditioner onto the hair as one wants to, it is just more oil.  I don't know why you would want to massage it in, because it just needs to be distributed into you hair, because your scalp will release fat as soon as the washing of it is done.

Oh, by the way, those dermatologist told also told me that washing ones body more than once a week with any kind of soap is also bad for the skin.  The daily shower should be done just with water and no soapy stuff.
Our grandparents knew what they  ere doing, when taking a bath once a week, whether it was needed or not!  >:-)

Thanks ladies! I have a couple ideas in mind. My hair is fairly versatile. It is super curly normally, but can be combed out and be relatively straight or mildly wavy.

I am really considering getting it done soon.

I have not been to my hairstylist for nearly 8 months and I have an appointment tomorrow for a trim.  My hair is down to my shoulders now and the nape of my neck has a furry forest upon it.  I will be asking for it to be cut in a feminine style, but so I can also tie it back in a ponytail.  It will be news to her that I want this, interested in the response from her.  I've been going to her for a number of years and she does my wife's hair too.  Interesting, interesting.
