Hey all,
I wanted to ask anyone who had chin/jaw contouring surgery. Was your lower lip swollen? How long did it take until the swelling went down?
Were you able to talk normally the first week after surgery or when were you able to talk normally with swelling on the lower lip? Did you use anything to help the swelling other than medications?
I had chin and mid-face work done at the end of November through 5 incisions in my mouth (3 along bottom and 2 in the top). My lips were swollen a small amount but not enough to impact talking and only a little bit noticeable. That amount of disruption will cause some swelling but it has gone away over the past 7 weeks since surgery. It actually felt worse than it looked. I didn't need to do anything special to deal with swelling and focussed more on incision care to ensure healing went well inside my mouth.
I had FFS four weeks ago, including chin and jaw work. My chin and bottom lip are still very swollen. My speech was definitely affected also. I have a little more feeling in my lip now and speech probably back to normal, but that's only occurred over the past few days. My lips also felt very dry (though probably due to breathing through my mouth early on as I also had rhinoplasty) so using plenty of lip balm.

Thank you for the prompt response and giving me enough security that it is part of the process to go through what I'm going through and not just me.
I was getting quite impatient and nervous and questioning if it's normal to not he able to speak with my lower lip swollen.
Am currently taking the medications that were prescribed to me and seems the swelling has actually receded while replying back at 3 am in the morning which I was woken up to use the bathroom.
If u may ask, how long did you girls have to wear your face bandage?
I didn't have any medication for swelling, only cream to help with bruising and Cicaplast to help prevent scars once wounds closed. The face mask (chin support) was worn for 24 hours a day (apart from when eating and showering) for the first week and was stressed as very important. Cooling for first 24 hours was said to be important also in helping prevent swelling.
I hope your swelling goes down soon. It does seem that everyone reacts differently but I'd say that even after 4 weeks I still have quite a way to go. During the first week my face was huge so if you're at this stage then I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks Cassidy.
Btw have anh of you have flatulence or constantly passing gas more frequently day or days after surgery? Seems I have been getting it alot not sure how long it takes until I'm back to normal with that also but it's just a bit annoying and embarrassing
After chin and jaw work my lower lip looked so warped and swollen, more so on one side. My mouth was so lop sided! It subsided in a couple of weeks or so.
Is it safe to go back to work on my 2 week after surgery? And another thing I wanted to ask is if walking around the hotel will disrupt my healing process like walking around for 5 - 20 minutes which us actually helping with flatulence
My surgeon said walking a bit after surgery actually helps with recovery. I'm not sure about going back to work in 2 weeks.
I wanted to ask, when were you girls finally able to eat normally without being scared of biting your mouth inside since it was numb?
