I have a bit of a weird problem where I wear the same size in both men's and women's when it comes to shoes. Like, I wear a men's size 8 and a women's size 8. I tried going down in shoe size for men's and it's too tight. Women's size 8 seems to fit my feet perfectly. For court heels, probably 7.5 so they don't slip off.
How do shoe sizes work that this happens anyway?
I believe men's and women's shoe sizes are supposed to be equivalent everywhere except in the U.S.A. Thus, if you don't buy shoes made for that market the size should at least theoretically be the same regardless of which you buy.

I do not know how it is possible. Different sizes for different brands maybe.

@Eliza C @zirconia @GingerVicki Here is a shoe size conversion chart that should help to clarify your questions about shoe sizing.

I am blessed with size 7 for both Mens' and womens' shoes.
However, I need to go for the wider fittings for ladies' shoes.
Size 7 strapless high heels and size 5.5 men's is a little large.
It's funny I wear a size 11 in women's and a 10 and a half in men's so I'm pretty close to the same size in both genders shoes

I have found that I have the same problem or dilemma. I have ordered 14.5 and they were way to large then reorderan's in size 13 and they fit perfectly. The same size that I wear in. men's. I did this thru LTS.
I am 7 and 7 but I am in the UK. My partner is 7 too

Not doubting anyone, but I am a little confused how one can be the same size in both since in theory 42 EU = US8-9m = US10-11w, for example. Are you wearing a men's show that is too big or squeezing into a too small women's shoe?

I used to wear a men's 10 and now wear a women's 10-11, but also lost 150# (amazing how much of my feet were water/fat) and now a men's 10 is ginormous on me and fit into an 8m. I need a 10wide or an elusive 10.5 in womens so usually end up in an 11 and regret it later because it's too long and I get pinched nerves from my foot moving forward into the narrow toe box.
If you are on HRT your feet may shrink as well as you height. I hear the avg is 1.5 inches in height and the feet shrink on shoe size. I wear men's 14's but I can squeeze into womens 13's with nothing to spare,
I wear 8 in men's and 8 in women's as expected in the UK.
However some of the men's bought before HRT, are a little slack as I agree some of us get " foot shrinkage" due to fat redistribution and muscle softening.
I usually need a wider fit in the women's.
I believe shoe companies should make wider fittings more available as width is almost as significant as length.
