In Emma's topic and in the your favorite trans theme movie/show we were talking about seeing things when we were young about changing into a woman and how it impacted us. Earlier tonight I thought about FaceApp. Gordon said that she used it for her avatar and I wondered how my pics would look using it - so I did it.
It brought up a lot of emotions for me both good and bad. On the good side I thought - hey I'm hot!! :D And I enjoyed seeing a hint of what might have been. On the downside it made me kind of sad. I am definitely not going to look that young again and with my health issues and the dramatic drop in income I don't see any major FFS in my future.
So back to the drawing board - learning to be OK with me as I actually am. My avatar picture is the real me - not touched up but looking as good as I can get. I included the FaceApp pics here because the people on this site are the only ones that will ever see them. I don't want people that see me face to face to be comparing the real me to these pics.
I would like to know if anyone else has reactions to this type of stuff. Back in the days that I used to fantasize about being a woman I would have gotten super excited over this. Now that I am actually a woman it kind of bums me out knowing it's not reality.

And for a reality check here's one of me after just waking up a couple months ago - I should see what FaceApp can do with this LMAO !!

Yup, I have the same feeling and experience with face app. It was nice in the beginning, but I'm not that young anymore. I can take a nice picture now and then. Those make me much happier.
Bari Jo
Those face app things are way too far fetched. It's just not possible in the natural world, not even close unfortunately

Hey Little sister!!!
I have never tried it out but, I always had the feeling it could have massive potential to cause a lot of negative feelings depending on the mood/ outlook / perspective of the user...
I did have a few pics photoshopped before FFS by VirtualFFS but, that was to be used as a reference when consulting with surgeons... perhaps face app would also be helpful in that role... showing a doctor what you want to attain...
I noticed this seemed to get popular around here for peoples avatars a while back and then decreased a bit and I do recall some people saying they had some negative and sometimes obsessive feelings about using it... There are already so many feelings in play about our outward appearance and I guess I question the value of this... Fashion magazines and almost all models we see in print are processed photos... often heavily processed so if you had a competitive nature and a good attitude you could say we are leveling the playing field but... I keep coming back to the thought that this App can cause a lot of anguish...
That Said.... YOUR PICS LOOK AWESOME!!! 🎉🎉🎉🙋♀️💕👍
Love Ya Kim!!!

Thanks Sis - Yeah as you and Bari Jo and Rachel all said it can be a bit harmful. I think back in the day before I ever thought I would transition it would have been a fantasy rush but now that transition has actually happened it is a bit of a buzzkill.
I think it is probably cool for those that are still living the fantasy but probably not the best thing for the rest of us.
I am sure I will take more looks at these pics because I like how they look but if I start obsessing on them I will delete them. Maybe I will just delete them soon anyway - we'll see.
Just about a year ago today, I chucked a couple pics into it. It helped confirm a lot of the feelings I'd had for a long time. The scarcity of pics of guy Aoife was commented on by a lot of my family, since jr high or so. While the gender-swap filter wasn't necessarily realistic, it did make me more comfortable with what I saw.
I haven't done anything with it since, HRT has done enough to my face that I don't despise seeing it.
There is another app that I prefer called Pretty Makeup. It kind of teaches how to do makeup by applying makeup to your photo in different ways. It doesn't change age or none structure like FaceApp. Anyway I do recommend that, dump FaceApp.
Bari Jo
I tried face app for the first time and I laughed at the results. I knew I would never look like that. No matter how long I was on HRT or how much I spent in FFS. Here's one of the results. The non-faceapp picture is modified with YouCam Makeup. All it does is add makeup and hair. I can live with that look.
Besides, feeling "pretty" has been something a lot of women struggle with most of their lives. If I want to feel like a real woman I guess I should struggle with it too. Kim you are a beautiful woman, both inside and out.
Don't get sucked into the beauty image trap. It is so destructive and you deserve better. You have spent a life time to finally be who you are and you are great.
Don't ever forget it.
Hugs,
Emma

As I wrote in another thread, FaceApp does not change my pictures dramatically, I only apply hair and makeup filters and I'm still recognizable in those pictures, just look a little younger with better skin, hair and makeup. But even with "only" those modifications I feel like crying because I see a young attractive girl who could have been me 10 years ago and now I have to work really hard to look like that. But I was amazed how different and dare I say sexy I can make myself look just by applying different hair styles and makeup.
And the funny thing is that FaceApp has shown me that I can smile a certain way :D At first I applied the "tight smile" filter on all my pictures and I was amazed at what a difference that smile made. As it turned out I can smile like that, I'm just so out of practice that my face muscles had a really hard time when I tried to do it, but now I don't need to apply that smile filter anymore.
Thanks Emma for the kind words and to everyone that chimed in here also. By coincidence I had my bi - monthly appointment with my trans therapist today and we spent a few minutes on this. Yeah she pretty much echoed what Emma said - don't fall into the beauty trap thing. She said most ciswomen struggle with it and it is only amplified for transwomen.
BTW Melinda - your 'real' pic looks great too !!
Kim you have a special kind of beauty that would shame a 19 year old model. Its the difference between being a woman and a child.
Keep that reflective beauty that shows in your eyes and smile with that big heart you know you have.
Hugs,
Emma

Aww. Thank you. My bff keeps telling me that too. I just struggle with believing it. Here's one I took today to show me breast development. She accused me of editing the girls. So, she stopped by earlier. She quickly took back her accusation. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190212/5507126c90bc41fb39e313c21a9270d6.jpg)

LOL !!! That's a good sign she took back the accusation. !! My 'girls' are toddlers. Being on lose dose "E' probably isn't helping them. I have enough to actually call them breasts but that's about it. Hoping I am still going to get a little more development. I was on 1/6 dose of E but got bumped up to 1/3 a few months ago. That's probably as good as it will get.
Thanks Emma - I got a touch emotional reading that :)

I know on many fb groups for transmen the beard feature goes warm.
But the app don't change your face very much. Just adds a beard.

Please tell me if this is offensive - with that disclaimer said... I have met about 8 transmen - in my experience they pass so much better in general than transwomen. As a rule - there are exceptions in both cases.
I wonder what the reason is in terms of facial symmetry, bone structure, density etc.

There have been studies on facial gendering. Our brains recognition networks, in this culture, are weighted heavily toward recognizing others as male. It takes about four feminine features to outweigh one masculine feature. Being seen as a woman, trans or cis, is harder than being seen as a man.
Not offensive. But there are a lot of transmen that don't pass even after a year on T. Maybe that's why they are obsessed with the beard pictures....
I also had a beard picture when I first joined here. I'm much more sure about myself today. I know I pass 50/50. My huge chest and voice gives me away.
But I often pass as a guy on pictures. But that is because I was born androgynous.
T is also much more powerful than Estrogen. The changes come faster and they are can be noticed easily. Like voice drop.
