Title: Issues after moving to another state
Post by: Natalya on February 21, 2019, 12:51:23 PM
I'm changed my name and gender in Philadelphia half year ago by court order. But now I moved to California and I can not find any work because have problems with background check. I worked for Uber, but when I arrived here Uber deactivated me, others companies like Grubhub, DoorDash did the same. I had problems with recieving CA driver licence, but it was easy resolved.
I have  Employment Authorization and SSN with new name, but what is the problem?
Now I can not pay my bills and and just live using credit cards. What is the next? Bankruptcy? Or death?  Is this somebody's mistake? And how fix it?
P.S. I'm pending asylum interview and have Russian male passport.

Get a copy or several copies of the court order used to change your name. Unfortunately you will have to blow your stealth but when you run up against a back ground check, show a copy of the court order and they should be able to resolve the problem. I ran into a potential problem with this when I ran into a government security check however because they learned it from me before the issue came up, they were willing to accept my word and I didn't need to provide supporting documentation.

It's unfortunate but changing your name and gender requires that others are aware of both identities until you have established a background with the new identity. Once the new identity is established, you will rarely need to provide the old one.
