Title: What does your internal voice sound like?
Post by: Eva_Saskatchewatch on March 04, 2019, 04:21:16 PM
I don't even really know that everyone else thinks but it seems a reasonable assumption. Anyway, what does the voice your brain uses sound like?

Mine sounds like a girl of my age. It's especially weird when I think and think and then I say something and my voice is like two octaves lower than it sounded in my head. It's really disorienting and not good for my dysphoria to say the least.

What about you? I want to know if this is common or unusual or what.

I think my voice sounds my real life voice, the way it always sounded, just age related.  Currently it is the voice of an older woman who speaks in the middle to lower range of the female voice range.  I never had a low sounding male voice.

You're not alone. My voice in my head has always been feminine.

My voice is very feminine.

Mine seems to be mostly dependent upon the context in which it is voiced. In girl mode it's feminine and in guy mode it's slightly higher than my usual physical voice.

A teenage girl. Mostly thoughts most of the time though.

My internal voice is male. And that makes dysphoria bad when I open my mouth to say something and they don't match.

Precisely the same for me.

My voice from my mouth, I am told, is not too low and I shall soon start voice therapy and then practise it. My voice is a major cause of GD.

^^ this totally.  My internal voice is a bit higher than my physical one and it causes me a lot of dysphoria.  Mind you, it has to battle with all the music that's constantly playing in my head.  ;D ;D

Thanks Natalie, that's a relief. It triggers my dysphoria when I speak after being inside my head for a while.

My personal experience has always been that there's a little voice in my head that says my thoughts. This may be because I move my tongue a lot when I think, as if I'm saying it out loud but I'm not.

My internal voice matched my external voice early on.

It took a good three years for my internal voice to totally match my new external voice.  That was huge in batteling dysphoria.

I'm much happier now thinking about whatever.

Whatever it wants to. Sometimes it has no description such as when I am reading non-aloud.

I don't imagine it anything like my actual voice. That's fairly alien to me even now.

My internal voice is my groaning gut.  But the one that comes out of my mouth still fluctuates.
