Title: Under the radar therapy
Post by: kellymonroe on March 05, 2019, 11:31:20 AM
I'm looking for a means of seeing a therapist or doctor about transition that would at least for now fly under the radar.  Has anyone dealt with that and have some ideas.

Mostly I just can't risk details showing up on anything work health benefit related because my company HR is not as confidential as they should be.  It just is what it is.

And I'm really just not prepared for others to find out.

A lot of therapists do Skype sessions.

As an aside, no doctors or therapy are required to simply live in the gender role we desire. They only become necessary if we seek out medical transition.  :)

If you don't claim it on your workplace health insurance, they won't find out.  It'll cost you, though.

There are a lot of reasons people go to therapy, the therapist gives you a diagnosis based on insurance billing codes. They don't have to diagnose you with gender disphoria for you to talk about it . If you explain that you are concern about a gender disphoria diagnosis so early on, they could probably find another diagnosis for billing. This won't necessarily impact your chance to hormone therapy in the future, because there are a large number of places that use informed consent.

If you live in the United States, and are looking for hormone therapy, the primarily prescribed T-block has other uses and if you have one of those conditions, you might be able to access it that way.

My therapist bills under therapy for depression. Many people have depression and the stigma is fading.
