Hi, I need a floppy hat for sun protection. They always seem to be too small for me. Any thoughts on buying one?
They are kinda expensive at roughly $70 to $120, but Tilley has hats up to at least 8-1/4. Mine is sweat stained, but other than that I've been using mine for about three decades!
I found a few at target that fit my generously sized noggin.
I have a hat guy here but normally he only sets up at trap shoots. I bought one that fit correctly which was an accomplishment because I take an extra large motor cycle helmet for my swollen noggin. They come in several styles and when you buy one, he soaks them in water so they can be shaped to your head.
I also have a Tilley that I inherited from my Dad when he died. But my new favorite for hiking and running is by Sunday (Sun and Day, get it?). I bought it at a National Park gift shop, but I see them around. They are UPF 50 (rated for sun protection) and I got mine in a nice femme pink/purple. Now it's my wife's favorite hat >:( lol. But if you're looking for a nice floppy straw-like hat, I'm not much help. I got mine at Goodwill and another at Walmart.
I had a problem finding one large enough to wear over my wig. I have no tips for finding one. The one I did find was total serendipity. It looked cute, so I tried it on over my wig and... it fit!!
Husband has a frankly GINORMOUS head and from experience, all I can advise is try on every dang hat you see.
Eventually you'll find one that fits.
it's annoying though.
seriously, why is his head so big!?? lol.
David Morgan (https://www.davidmorgan.com/shop/category/2/hats) sells some womens hats, but I'm not sure they go large since I don't wear any, of course.
I wear a Australian Slouch Hat (https://www.davidmorgan.com/shop/product/80/aussie-slouch-hat-open-crown) with a combination traditional Australian and Indiana Jones bash. And yes, its the same kind of Australian hat that you see worn with one side up. But if you're trying to keep the sun or rain out of your face, doing so is kind of pointless. [emoji14]
I love that I can add pins to the puggaree/headband to make this hat distinctly my own. Of course, at a transgender event, I also had to add bling. ;D I've had this hat and worn it nearly daily for almost five years, and it still looks wonderful!
Hope this helps! :)

I saw some cute hats at Costco last week and plan to try them on Saturday. If that is a bust I will try on-line.
Yeah I saw those hats at Costco and stopped to try one on. And my wife said, "I already have one like that, and you can wear it." So, I got free access to a hat!

I should start a thread of most frustrating transition aspects. It would be voice and my big fat head in that order! ::)
