Hi! I think I'll go through with SRS in a few months time and I've already just about decided to go with Dr. Miro (Miroslav Djordjevic). He is a big international name in FTM surgeries but seems to be excellent either way.
He utilizes three different methods: penile, sigmoid colon and peritoneal vaginoplasty
I've asked him a few different questions and
he said he's had 557 patients using penile inversion, 289 with colon and 22 peritoneal (it's very recent).
4 people have had problems with stenosis after penile because they didn't follow through with the dilation, and one patient who developed developed diversion colitis.
I'm asking a lot of questions about the different methods, and although I do quality for penile I'm stuck in deciding between colon and peritoneal SRS.
Advantages of sigmoid colon is: zero or no dilation, self lubricating and self cleaning. He said none of their patients had ever had problems with prolonged mucus production, foul smell or ileus. From what I've gathered reading online a lot of the bad rep colon has is because of the older method used.
Peritoneal is a lot less invasive, also becomes a nice form of tissue similar or identical (?) to natal vaginal tissue, lubricates less so you need like lubricant for sex. and it requires life long dilation to prevent stenosis.
I'm still asking a lot of questions to try to figure out what's the best to go for
Hi Cathy,
I have no thoughts on which surgery is better. I just saw that you're a new member and I wanted to say "hi" and welcome you to the site. I'm sure VM or Danielle will welcome you too and invite you to write an introduction if they haven't already.
Even though I can't help with your question, I can guarantee that you will get a lot of good advice here on this site, probably from many different women. These ladies have never let me down when I've had any questions for them.
Hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have,
xoxo

Thank you Lexii =)
I'm kinda relieved to find somewhere who actually just says women and not "transwomen". It always kinda makes me cringe. I think it's mostly because I'm not used to it in day-to-day life as I've had treatment and almost no one except my family know about my past - and if they mention it I just freeze
I'm sorry this probably isn't a very politically correct statement.. <.<
Welcome to Susan's Place. Don't eliminate PI surgery as it has a long history of success. It's less invasive and my 37 year old surgery is still as functional as the day I had it. Yes it does require care but if your sexually active, you may find that's enough so you don't need dilation. I have gone for a long period without dilation and after a couple months of dilation, I recovered my normal dimensions. At this point, I can easily maintain what I have with one dilation a week.

Thank you Dena :-)
The other methods just seem more likely to give me a result I'd be more satisfied with. It's like all you can do though, follow the odds.

Welcome from me, to! And I am a woman who transitioned to be the woman I am now. Trans was my path, and I have arrived and am a woman!
You're quite welcome Cathy! I don't think you have to worry too much about political correctness around here. ;D
As long as people aren't being abrasive or rude things seem to flow very well. :) :) :)

P.S. I like that nearly everyone uses women or ladies too instead of the alternative.
Thank you all, that's reassuring :-). Does anyone have experience with or know anyone who's gotten peritoneal SRS?
I had SRS with penile inversion 4 months ago. The only dilation is despair. I don't even imagine that I will always have to use a lubricant for sex:(
I wanted to choose a sigmoid colon, but I heard that it was possible to get an infection of the intestine and I did not want to risk it, even though it was a dream choice: nothing dilation and without a lubricant for sex.
I'm sorry to hear you regret your choice of method,
asking a million questions to the doctors and others I've just about decided to go for sigmoid colon.
Yeah I also think that SC method is the best decision if you do not want to dilate for life. I can ask where from are you?
I'm from Norway. I am able to get SRS free here but the surgeons as a team have done 300 surgeries 1960 and I haven't heard the greatest things.
Where are you from?
I'm from Slovenia and also here I have a free SRS surgery. The health insurance offered me the surgeon Miro in Belgrade, but I refused because I don't like the pictures of results of Dr. Miro. So then I chose dr. Chettawut in Thailand.
That was a wonderful professional medical team and a great experience! Chettawut is a best surgeon and he kept his promise and made me a very nice vagina.
I suggest a Thai surgeon. Chettawut also works the sigmoid colon method. Or PAI in Thailand.
I'll ask to see some more pictures, the ones available are excellent though.
Out of 289 sigmoid colon patients he's had only one has the problems that are often connected with it.
He's had like 900-something mtf srs patients total. So I don't know, I'll see what i would be able to expect of results visually before i make a decision.
Remember that it's also often a lot easier to achieve good visuals with colon, and unlike penile inversion it shouldn't require a follow up to improve on it
I suggest you look this too: https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,242786.0.html
About Dr. Miro.
look also online: collection photos of srs on ->-bleeped-<-. There you have pictures and experiences of the results of all surgeons. For about 4 years I was thinking of which surgeon to choose but Suporn and Chettawut have been on the list for a long time. Pls take time and think well, be sure. The operation is only once in a lifetime:)
P.S sorry for my poor English lol:)
Although there was a complication (which happens sometimes but rarely) she seemed very satisfied with the final results and it sounds like she was taken well care of. Dr Miro offers peritoneal as a regular option now if you want it. But I think going through all that, calling in surgeon from Sweden shows great care for the patient.
Yes ur right. I have no doubt that Miro is a careful doctor. I just looked at the picture of the sigmoid colon result from Dr. Miro and I don't like it. If you like then go. I wish you good luck and that you will be happy with the result. Report us how it went!:)
The result shown is 9 months after surgery, but i'm asking the doctor for more example pictures ~
When you get pictures, share pictures with us. I would like to see.
Haha I can maybe send you in a private message, or on like skype or something. I don't think they'd appreciate if i posted them openly
Yes of course. When u get pictures, we'll continue then on PM or skype or something:)
I'm trying to figure out how to add friends on this website, but it just crashes out
I added you now, did you get it?
I don't think I did?
Oh then I added you only on my profile. Then visit my profile and click add a friend.
It says I'm not allowed in that section
I guess there is a 4th method to add to the other three, which is what is sometimes referred to as a cosmetic vagina.
I know this won't be popular and will be dismissed out of hand as not truly female but, as with the other three, there are some pros and cons.
The pros:
Less complicated both during and post surgery
No dilation
Still sensate
Visually identical from the outside
The Cons:
Not a 'real' vagina as such (debate)
Penetrative vaginal sex impossible
I am slightly stuck in a mental block on this at the moment but I really don't want to cause any offence. Let me share my feeling at this moment, but please bear with me. It's this. For some reason I can't get over the idea in my head that a penile inversion vagina is a pouch. It's closed with, for example, no cervical opening to the womb. It needs daily regular dilation and isn't self-lubricating. It's basically inverted skin and therefore a closed system. Someone even once said to me she could have unprotected sex because HIV couldn't transmit through it as her vagina is essentially skin. That's NOT something I would recommend for a single second by the way. Just what she said.
For this reason I can really get the sigmoid colon vagina. You have it and, almost, forget about it. It's self-lubricating and (I understand?) doesn't need constant dilation.
I guess I'm wrestling with this as I'm returning to my true self and, some day, I will want to have the surgery. I'm lesbian and so penetrative sex isn't something on my mind. I'm quite tempted by the idea of a cosmetic vagina or sigmoid colon, but the latter is pretty invasive.
Just ruminations. Please forgive if any of this feels tactless. I'm searching for answers xxx
Got to say that peritoneal vaginoplasty does sound quite cool. I like the idea of the menoplasty i.e. it turns into the same kind of vagina as a cis woman's:
<Youtube video "Peritoneal Vaginoplasty" with Dr. Sidhbh Gallagher>
I like the idea that it's not simply 'skin' but actually a type of tissue that transforms:
"The peritoneal lining changes to stratified squamous epithelium resembling normal vagina and having acidic Ph."
<nih.gov article, "New laparoscopic peritoneal pull-through vaginoplasty technique">
<TransHealth article, "Peritoneal Pull Through Vaginoplasty Procedure">
According to all of these sources, peritoneal vaginoplasty is self-lubricating and requires less dilation, less douching, less maintenance and more depth. It's also, obviously, less risky than sigmoid colon.
I'm interested.

Oh and presumably no requirement for electrolysis beforehand?! ;)
