Susan's Place Transgender Resources

Hey All,

I have decided to revive my small storefront here along Member's Blog Avenue after my old one was lost to the great crash at the beginning or 2024! 🌻

As a fairly longtime member of the forum here (since 2016) many of you know me and thus...the general philosophy and positive attitude I apply to the process of transition and the building of a new life that most of you reading this have found yourself considering or fully engaged in! 🌻

This forum, like the world, changes by the day... So, for those that don't know me... Hello!... I began on a fast track to transition 10+ years ago at age 52...  In opposition to the U2 song... I have found what I am looking for! and... It is far too good to keep to myself!!! 💕🤗💕

My goal, is to help all those out there to find what they need in all of this as well... To see past the fear that comes with change... To move towards a true connection to life, to yourself, to others and to the world around you🌻

It all begins with a simple decision... The decision to be yourself...🌻

I am not sure what my little corner of the world here will look like yet... When I finally began moving towards a life that reflected the truth within me... I found that everything meant more to me... art... philosophy... history...poetry... spirituality... quantum physics... the nature of consciousness and reality because, these things are the very stuff of life and, my life now meant something real and true to me...

I found myself finally excited and hopeful about what life had in store for me... Here I am... over a decade later and my enthusiasm has only grown... I think this place will reflect all those aspects of life's journey and... I hope, some good conversation that will encourage and lend hope to all who come here in days yet to be... seeking hope that they too, can decide to be themselves... I am going to skip to the good part... YES!!!... You can!... All fears can be conquered... All challenges can be navigated... An amazing life patiently awaits your arrival! 🌻

I will close out this first post with a video I posted a few years back... it is based on an ancient poem of unknown origin called Thunder Perfect Mind...  (some think it may reach back to 350 BC Greece) It explores the paradoxes, themes and depths of the feminine experience... Dear Ashley:
I am so very happy to see that you have revived your small storefront
here on the Forum along Member's Blog Avenue.

You, me, and many other members lost a lot of our postings, pictures and
shared conversations, HOWEVER we will always have our memories of the
relationships that we had built with other members here on Susan's Place.

We have all been given a reset button so that we can start afresh with
building up the relationships and friendships that we had but also it is
an opportunity to start establishing new relationships with long lost and
new members.  As you stated, our Forum changes continuously as members
come and members go.

Along with your other followers, I am looking forward to frequently visiting
your "storefront" as you continue to share your life endeavors and your sharing
of your encouragement that I have known you for.  Our blog threads are our HOMES
here on the Forum where our friends can easily find us and share their comments
and thoughts.

Again, Ashley, thank you for taking the effort to start building your Forum HOME
once again.

i don't think a day ever passes in which I don't feel blessed, thankful and appreciative to live around so much natural beauty... I have been around here for most of 30 years now and it never ceases to move me

When I have a bad day, when I feel blue, sad, I always try to find something around me to cheer me up, to comfort me. Art, or landscape, or something to admire who makes me feel good. I call it the "little joys". They remind me the wonderful side of life and how I like to live. Thanks for that "little joy" of the day, Ashley, for that beauty some try to kill.

I very much like your approach on days when life is not quite what you want it to be little sister... I think there are joys to be found in every day... some days they are small and some days far far larger... knowing that... being open to that and keeping our eyes, heart and mind on the lookout for them will always pay off! 💕

I have always believed that even when our other connections in life... to others and to ourself... are a bit elusive... Our connection to nature is always there waiting for us... It can be as small as a flower growing through a broken concrete sidewalk or as big as an ocean 💕

I am looking forward to revisiting Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey, and all those nice beaches again one day.  Pretty places for sure, and to return to Nepenthe for a fabulous meal and view.  Now if coastal California Road 1 did not fall apart at times, that would be even better!

Hey All...

After many years of being on cruise control as far as my daily look and not changing things up too much as far as hair... I found myself moved by an adventurous spirit a couple months back... I took things a few shades darker overall... I am liking the look and my husband does too! I am also forgoing the blue contacts most days and liking the look with the darker hair as well!

I am afraid my wardrobe hasn't changed much...jeans, hoodies, tanks, cutoffs and swimsuits at the beach are my friends... I dress for comfort unless we are going somewhere fancy!

Anyway... here are a few pics of this old lady and her new hair color...

There's this gorgeous young woman who, apparently, is standing directly in front of your shot in each picture and completely blocking her.

Thank you for your words of encouragement Ashley. Those days sometimes seems so far away. So many things are holding me to take the step. Starting with my fear to never look feminine enough. I guess it's a common feeling with lots of sisters, and perhaps did you struggle with it yourself. Anyway, might sound stupid, but I fear that if that woman become visible, she will still look like a man wearing a dress. Anyway, your blog page is certainly not the place to discuss my issues and questionings... Just saying thank you, and hope I will go... Onward!

This is as fine a place as any to talk about anything and everything on your mind about what lies between where you are now in your life...and where you would like to be in the days, months and years to come... 🌻

The main reason I am here on this forum is to help others see that what they seek is well within their grasp to make happen... it usually lies on the other side of some deep fears but, all fears can be navigated and as we come to see that we can conquer those fears... we come to understand our own personal power within our own life... Our lives are no longer things that happen to us... our lives are what we make them to be.🌻

I think that everyone here who has moved forward has had fears in the area which currently concerns you...how we will look and how we will be treated by others because of how we look... yet take a look around this forum and you will see the stories and pictures of your sisters who have made it all work... Who have built glorious new lives and are so glad they chose to try.🌻

The path of transition touches every part of our life and our interplay with others and the world... I think that at the beginning we tend to focus on the outer body/face journey when truly, I believe, the lions share of this consists of the inner journey and changes with how we process emotions and see ourselves and our place in the scheme of life. I think as the changes happen within.. they begin to be seen by others in our face... our expressions... the way we move etc🌻

No one here went from their male life to living in whatever level of feminine expression they chose overnight...it all takes time but, I believe you'll find it to be the best spent time of your life... We are all unique and your answers of how to best express yourself to the world will be as unique and beautiful as you little sister.🌻

In my own case, I was very determined to make it all happen as quickly as possible... my realization at age 52 that I must remake my life, and the decision to do so, was almost made on the spot without much pondering whether I should or not... I knew it was really the only path available to me that could lead to a life that held true meaning and connection for me... Within a few short months I was on hormones, engaged in hair removal, had dental work to fix my smile (because I knew I would be doing lots of that) ...having a trach shave and living fulltime femme except at work... just past the one year mark of hrt, I started 2015 with 11.5 hours of FFS... GRS 4 months later and another 11.5 hour FFS 6 months after that... 2015 was a workout! 😅

Anyway... all those things I did and yet, if I hadn't been able to do any of it... I would still be living my true life... in the end.. all there is to all this is walking out the door each day, and being yourself... 🌻  I think we tend to go into this viewing the changes we imagine in the most complicated terms... but, it is only as complicated as we make it... I would love to help you find your way with all this stuff Stephanie... Your answers are out there and will be worth all your efforts expended to find them 💕🤗💕

You are so welcome little sister... There is much to ponder in the remaking of a life into one that is more livable and a true expression of who we are... If we never show our true self to others...we never truly connect with them and that is a sad thing indeed... I think one of the greatest strengths is being able to drop the armor we have worn for so long and be vulnerable to life... I hope you let your mind explore and plan some small steps in whatever direction you you choose... These small steps end up taking us to amazing destinations.

Gosh, another slip-out (destroyed part of the road with a cliff falling under the road) on California 1 in the Big Sur area this weekend!  I wonder what the California road engineers will do to fix this problem and how long it will take to make the repairs.

This will make it tough for many residents and businesses and visitors.

I hope to visit again one day!

Yes, I saw there was some trouble down there near Rocky Point... sounds like there is still one lane so they will let residents in and out during the repairs so at least they aren't totally cut off like they have in the past down that way!... The price of paradise! 💕😅💕

Hey All,

I haven't posted here in quite a while now but with the rainy windy weather outside I thought i would play a little bit of catch up! Life has been moving at a nice pace lately and we have happily got in a good bit of time with our granddaughter. I hope all of you are also finding the things you want in each day! 🌻

We lost our two beloved senior kitties last year... My little blind orphan kitten Katie and our older adoptee SeaCat...They passed within 3 weeks of each other and I still miss them both every day...But! My husband and I went to the SPCA last July and adopted two 8 week old tabby sister kittens...They bring us so much joy each day and involve themself in everything we do! They love to get in the sink while i am doing dishes etc!.. 💕😺😺💕 Here are a couple pics...

Also... I have been meaning to mention around here that if anyone has been considering an LED Red Light Therapy Mask... I have had some really noticiable results using them since the beginning of the year...i was pretty skeptical about them doing much but, started to see results just a week into daily use... YMMV but, I have been amazed! 💕🤗💕

I agree with Lori, you're looking amazing! And thanks for sharing your experience with the LED Red Light Therapy Mask. I just looked it up, and it might be something I'll try once I'm done with electrolysis.

I always enjoy my time (when I get it) walking along the central California beaches. The beaches are so much better than the beaches here father south in Orange County.

Thank you and that is a good call on the kitty Lori 😅👍 Daisy is highly spirited for sure!!! I have had cats all my life and she is the first one that loved to play fetch... When she wants to play she will meow at you very loudly and continuously until you throw her bottle cap for her so she can retrieve it and bring it back for the next throw... 💕😺💕

I hear ya! I grew up around the crowded SoCal beaches, definitely a different vibe up here! Many days I almost have the beach to myself... We do have a tourist influx on the weekend but the crowds are nothing like down there... I hope you can make it up this way again soon! 🌻

If you're the crazy cat lady, or the demented doggo girl... doesn't matter. They add so much light to your life. The pain of loss is the same.

What I will say is.. you live in a very beautiful part of the world. :) And you are quite stunning yourself.

Ha!... I admit I do have all the makings of a crazy cat lady! I wouldn't be the first one in my family either! I actually only had a few months in my whole life where I haven't had at least one cat and sometimes up to six... 😺😺😺😺😺😺 🤪

 I have always felt my connections with animals deeply and I always try to do my best for any animal that I can help in some way... even if it is just a little bug that needs to be gently relocated out of harms way so he can get on with his life! 🐜

Somehow I am really not surprised by that at all, Ash. You are the champion of the vulnerable. You are very kind, very gentle and caring towards people. I admire that greatly. You go out of your way to make people feel better. It's no small leap to be like that in the wider natural world. I can totally see you with your kitty cat army around your feet, lol.

Thank you for the kind words sweet girl... I don't have the dreaded portrait in the attic but, I think happiness in itself can be something of a fountain of youth and, in answer to your question... YES!... Happiness is an achievable state for all of us... I truly believe it is most easily found when we simply choose it... I think a fulfilling content perspective is always there for us to adopt with a choice yet, we tend to think of happiness as some remote location..the road there long and arduous with many pitfalls and obstacles that can block our way...

We have an open area behind our house that is wooded and wild... It is rare to look out the bedroom window and not see at least one and often many deer but... a special treat is always seeing the first fawn of the season! I spotted this little one out the bedroom window Monday morning exploring his brand new world. I have named him "Scooter" 💕🦌💕

I don't keep to close tabs but, last I heard "maybe" it would be fully open later this year... The longest section that is closed is pretty far south of us. The price of that uncrowded rugged paradise is you have to be ready to be denied access to the rest of the world for extended periods... the farther south you go the worse the danger... I could definitely live like that without too much concern but, we love it here right where we are!

I heard the Big Sur bakery burned last year or so but they rebuilt it.  Do you go there?

I liked the roadside bookstore in Big Sur and the big trees they have at the property.

Hey Sister!

I really don't make it down that way very much except the occasional hike at Garrapata... But... the bookstore you are thinking of is The Henry Miller Library... I went down there to see Ethel Cain a couple years ago... Such a  beautiful and intimate venue to see an artist in! I was so impressed with the place that I am now a donator to keep the place funded and running... It needs to be there so people in years to come can discover this amazing little gem!... My husband and I may be checking out a show down there soon as well.

I had never heard of this guy until a few weeks ago. And I am a Brit. Apparently he's massive here but I guess if you're not in that environment then you're not likely to know these artists. I think that's how I know I'm getting old, lol. And set in my ways. Kudos for your adventurous spirit, Ash. It's rather refreshing.

I know what ya mean girl! When I see something about The Academy Awards or Grammys I ususally have zero idea who most of the people are... I think I like it that way though! 🤗 ...Conversely, when my husband sees my artist list on Spotify, he has never heard of any of them! 😅

Yes Tgirlamg one of the most rememberable moments in the Shawshank Redemption.  Thank you for posting it.  Also the connection being in a prison cell is also poignant.

Hey All,

I had a great day yesterday addressing a Social Psychology class at the local university here and next week I have 2 speaking dates... One at the university and one at the local junior college.🌻

I have been a public speaker 12 years now... since early in my transition in 2013 and highly recommend it to anyone who has the thought that they might enjoy it...and... I think it is a very good time for our stories to be told 🌻

I started volunteering because I didn't know what would come of my decision to transition. There were so many unknowns about what awaited me at the bottom of the cliff I was jumping off but, I thought that being able to walk into rooms of strangers and speak my peace about what had always been my deepest secret would be a useful skill to possess...🌻


It did serve me well in that way, I immediately gained confidence after my first gig addressing a room filled with officers and sergeants at a local military facility. A place where I had worked off and on through the years... it was a bit surreal going through the security checkpoint in a black skirt and lace top! 😅

I do it now all these years later because I enjoy the connection with the next generation who will be picking up the ball of life and moving it further down the field... and I enjoy being a part of dispelling the  any misconceptions out there about us... I usually speak at the local University and junior college but also the police academy, rape crisis center, churches, local government employee training and a few other venues... if you are at all inclined, you might want to try it!... I often moderate a panel of speakers but, solo gigs are also common..🌻

Many times audience members have been struggling with all this stuff and find hope seeing that others have faced the same struggles and built meaningful lives on the other side of them.🌻

We learn and discover even more about ourself when we have to relate our experiences, motivation, decisions, and feelings to others! 🌻

Yeah this girl is actually someone very special.

Public speaking makes me sweat from places I didn't know I could sweat. As an officer in the Navy, even giving briefings made me extremely nervous. I type about a million times better than I speak lol. A long time ago, one of my US cis friends called me and we had a very long conversation about very weird stuff. But the first thing she said to me was "Uhhh, your voice is way higher and soft spoken than I thought it would be..." This was before I'd come out to anyone as trans. It freaked me out. I probably sounded like a goldfish in a bowl in my response, lol.

You have a gift. Like so many people here. I kind of feel like Lori could do a one woman stage show about her life and it would sell out. Some people just have that spark. :)

Public Speaking was probably one of the last things I would have ever dreamed I would be comfortable with, much less actually enjoy, in my old life... I was always fine directing work as a foreman etc. but, the big roomfull of strangers with all eyes on me would have been a different matter entirely 😬

I guess now, I just have stuff to say 😅 and... mostly I am hoping that if others sense they might have something to say as well... they might give it a try! As I mentioned, I think it is good time to foster some understanding about who we are and why we need to make the choices that we do.🌸

Btw... I am totally ready for The Lori Show!!! 🤗

You are special, and doing things that probably a lot of us wish we could do but can't. <3
