Becoming Me - a poem by SarahEL
This may sound obvious, my introspection,
Before transition, my fear's reflection.
Massive worry, what would it mean?
In futures, fears and others' scene.
Sure in gender, never a doubt,
Yet fear was mine from others' clout.
Their insecurities, opinions weighed,
Stopped choices for life I should have made.
Now I think, my life's improved,
Not wanting to end it; a mood removed.
Living as a me, feeling right,
Normal for once, in day and night.
At peace is a better description,
Releasing control from their restriction.
If I've learned one thing, it's this truth:
Being yourself is a fountain of youth.
Those who don't accept, never knew,
The real person that was truly you.
Small-minded phobic's, lacking grace,
Cannot empathize your place.
Those who no longer show love's sign,
Never loved the real design.
Better without them, though it may sting,
In the long run, more pain they'd bring.
Head held high, facing the gust,
Being me, in self I trust.
Paid the costs, worth every bit,
the Smile on my face proves it.
Just saw this.
You have a gift for rhyme and articulation.
I love this. It has an intensity while keeping to a structure.
Do you have any more poetry? I'm kind of a sucker for it. <3
I write a lot of poetry. You could call it a hobby I suppose?
However, it is mostly about the trauma I suffered as a child, not really suitable for publishing on a forum like this as it would require some warnings first..

Yeah I kind of get it. I used to write short stories, rather than poetry, which were horribly dark and macabre. As a way to deal with things. But the result was the same, it was an outlet. And creativity is a fantastic outlet for saying things we can't say.
Sarah, I still think you should show people... I mean if you want to. Put things in the writing subforum. Maybe add a viewer discretion warning in the title if you feel it's needed... but you genuinely have a gift. If it's not too selfish of me, PM me a few pieces if you want to. Just because I love the way you write and anyone with an artistic soul kind of pushes my buttons. :)
