I have no problem wearing a skirt and blouse. It is just wearing a dress. I grew up in an era when cross dressing was breaking the law, and movies and tv shows reinforced the idea. It may have been Tony Curtis and others in a movie wearing dresses to sneak out of a hotel. Some comment is made that if they get caught in dresses, they are going to jail.
If I remember right Lee majors wore a military women's uniform in one episode. There might have been a ...
There are also my abusive parents, My time in the military is known as running away from home. My mother has what I call a Irish temper. Kind of like the star trek episode where the woman kisses Kirk, and the next moment she slaps his face. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse, break a rule, and get paddled. Cry and you get more. It is a guessing game. If I play with a doll, will I get paddled.
I once put on a dress as a teenager, my mother told me not to do it again. Strange thing is, the dress is still hanging in my closet. It is too small for me to wear.
My dad was a police officer. He said his badge and gun is proof of his honesty, he lied. When he told his friends how he won his skates in a raffle, he lied. But then there was the attitude that everything I owned belonged to him. Even though I won the skates, they still belonged to him.
It was to a point that if he accused me of anything, I would be punished for lying if I denied it. (the other way is I'm punished, therefore I did it.)
He did not hide how he felt about boys with long hair, a comment about someone should hold them down and cut their hair. When boys have long hair, you can't tell it they are male or female.
He made a comment that if he found out any of his kids were gay, he would shoot them. Lucky for me, it was a plastic bullet in his revolver. It may have been an accident, but it should never have happened. There was enough power behind the plastic bullet that it stung when it hit me in the chest. He never apologized or even seemed to care that I got hit. (I am gay and I got shot.) He was also obey the rules or get punished. And, I had a sister that would lie to watch me get punished.
When I asked about the doll, my mother claimed I never had a doll.
I had gone to the county fair, dressed in a denim skirt and shirt. My anxiety meter goes way up when I see police officers coming in my direction. Thursday my anxiety was too high, and I couldn't get the courage to take photographs, or even speak to order food from one of the vendors. Today I got a few photographs, and I managed to order a hamburger. I wanted a foot long corn dog later, but couldn't get my courage up again. I'm a bit fearful that my voice will give me away.I need to remember my beaded bracelets are also fidget toys.
One more day, and hopefully I can get more photos and really mess up my diet.(No special diet.)

I am sorry that you had such a tough childhood. I hope you are able to move forward from it.
I have some dresses, but I mostly wear skirts and tops. The thing for me is my belly. I am fairly slim, but my stomach looks like a third breast! I have to be very careful about the cut of the dress so that it does not emphasize my stomach.
I agree wearing dresses can be a bit frightening, but nothing feels more feminine than it. My wife and I went out to a small Italian restaurant on Thursday. My wife says, your wearing a dress! Turns out she was the only woman NOT wearing a dress in the restaurant. The other 5 plus myself all had dresses on. I usually wear a control garment underneath. It hides my belly and give me more curves.
Sorry to hear about your abusive childhood Michelle. That seams to be a common theme here. Myself included! I also grew up in an area of take the belt to him, it will fix anything.

I missed a point on the dresses, I think my mother was of the opinion that nothing should show. I think of her as the type that the dress should button up to the chin. Of course the tv censorship was such that nothing would show, not even the belly button. I'm also thinking she made comments about women on tv not being covered enough.
I requested an appointment to get my ears checked, I hear birds chirping when there are no birds present. The last time my ears were checked was about 30 years ago, and I have scars on my ear drums. It was just a game, cup her hands around my ears, and then scream. My mother said that I have excellent hearing, The doctor asked how I can manage with my hearing so bad. My dad's opinion would have been, he faking it.
I did get to the fair today. I was going to take some pictures, but found out I didn't have my phone or camera. I did get a corn dog, $10.00 for a foot long. I was not going back home to get my camera as it is a 30 mile trip each way. Using the women's rest room was no problem when I got there. Later I had a bit of a problem, as I did not feel like standing in line to use the rest room.

Only problem I had when wearing a dress was creepy men attempting to look up there. It is sick and disgusting when it happens
Sounds like my family growing up. Now as an adult its so hard to leave all that abuse behind and move on. Childhood memories are the strongest. Sorry you had to endure this abuse. Hang in there it gets better.

Hi Michelle, I can relate to your upbringing nd I am sorry you had to endure it.
So at work it is 70% female with 29,000 staff. I just recently wore a skirt to work. It was the second time in 13 years. I was tariffed when I wore it 13 years ago and this time I just wore skirt and it looked good.
Dresses, I have worn a dress one time. I would be fine wearing a dress that went to just above my knees to work. Now you have me thinking about getting a dress for work.

Tariffed? Do you mean terrified?

Dresses are far more comfortable to wear every day than pants or skirts. I wear the same dress as a sleeping gown, a formal outfit, and a working cloth. This backless black dress is my favorite, and I have two, wearing another while washing one.

Yes. Wearing a tight dress is challenging. Decreasing my girth size by exercise and diet is the only solution.

Dresses can be so nice and beautiful. It is tough for one to believe you are not looking good in a dress, but we are most critical of ourselves it seems.
However finding the right dresses can be very satisfying. But if a dress does not seem to work out for you, we have many other everyday looks that can turn out well.

Dresses can be jogging suits too.

The last few weeks I have been wearing dresses maybe 40% of the days or evenings.
I go for florals or solid colors, such as white, that flow. I do not wear anything tight (usually) for any clothing, as I just do not find them to be flattering for my body.
A nice white or yellow flowing sundress coming down about six inches above the knees (when standing) has been good for me in recent warm weather.
My go to clothes are generally my blouses or shirts, and skirts or pants. Or T shirts and layered top looks, such as a sweater over a shirt if in air conditioning even these warm days, or a blouse or a button up shirt unbuttoned but over a T. What I wear depends on the situation of course but I do try to be appropriate in all ways in what I wear.
Lots of choices for sure. Much less boring overall than my birth gender's clothing, that is for sure.
