Title: What prompted you to come to Susan’s?
Post by: ChrissyRyan on September 13, 2024, 06:38:24 AM
What prompted you to come to Susan's?

I was trying to learn, and I am still learning.

I was wanting to see if I was thinking clearly about gender issues, and I still seek clarity from time to time.  Some of that comes from here, some from thinking more, and some as the result of gender therapy sessions.

I came to Susan's long ago as a lurker. I had received a diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria and I didn't know what that meant for me. My Psychologist worked with me to understand what that meant, but I wanted to know what other transgender people have experienced. I have learned so much from all of our members. Not just about being transgender but also about intersex, non-binary, and others of the LGBTQ+ spectrum. The stories and insights of members experiencing these things and willing to share their experiences have been a treasure.

I am here to hopefully repay what I have gained from all of you. Thank you.

Somewhere between 2000 and 2003 I became interested in learning more about what it meant to be transgender. I had suspected that I may have been transgender even before then, but I knew that was simply not possible. It took a long time for me to realize just how possible it was, and even longer to realize that one day all of my friends would only know me as Jessica.

So, who get the free one? Are you going to have a raffle, or do you have someone in mind?

Makes a lovely holiday gift, Jess, OBVIOUSLY!

Plus, if you listen to our former President? Apparently, kids are going to school in the morning and coming home that day having had super secret special gender change surgeries in the school nurse's office, I believe? So I'd imagine I could donate it to my local school system.

Lots o options. 😉

You could donate to the transgender alien immigrants in prison.  ;D

Why, do not they get "free" reassignment and gender conforming surgeries, HRT?

Paid by us taxpayers of course.

It was a ridiculous statement made during the recent debate.

Although maybe it is possible for state provided medically necessary transgender care in California if you are in prisons there.  Seems like that has been around for a few years and would apply to anyone in prisons.

I am unsure so you can check on that if so inclined.

The girl I was dating at the time. She came here first. She was the first person I ever told. She is gay, but for some reason saw something in me and wanted to date me. She came here to try to understand what I'd told her, and "encouraged" me to come here. Which... she was from New Jersey in the US, so that was more of a command than encouragement, lol. She ended up being a mod here back in the day. Still the only cis mod the site has ever had. I joined a couple of months after she did, way back in 2008, and haven't regretted it since. :)

Hi Everyone

When I first encountered Susan's Place, I had lived much of my life in relative isolation from any supportive groups or networks, particularly after I changed my life around in February 1989.  For over two decades, I remained disconnected from any form of community, living my life as any other individual in society without support regarding my medical condition.

It wasn't until around January 2010, when I came across the story of Jazz Jennings through a Barbara Walters 20/20 special called "I Am Jazz," that I began to understand and became aware of the issues surrounding us.  This program opened my eyes to the broader conversations and developments regarding gender identity and transgender issues.  It was a revelation that there was a wider world out there, with people like me with similar experiences.

With this newfound awareness, I searched online and discovered Susan's Place.  I found a wealth of information and the community's compassionate and insightful discussions drew me in.  Joining Susan's Place marked the beginning of a deeper self-discovery process.  For the first time, I encountered a space where I could explore my identity more fully and openly.

During my time with Susan's Place, I learned crucial aspects about myself that had remained unclear for years.  For example, I came to understand that I had always been a female, a realization that dawned on me around the age of 52, even though I was living my life as a female.  The supportive environment at Susan's allowed me learn from others and allow me to impart my experiences as well.

Although I did explore other groups, Susan's Place has remained the central community where I can contribute to and learn from the collective wisdom of others who share similar experiences.  The community provides me with the safety, security, and privacy I need, all while allowing me to share my experiences.

In essence, I am here at Susan's Place because it offers a unique blend of support, understanding, and personal growth.  It is a space where I can be myself, learn more, engage with others in a meaningful way and to pass on what I have learned and know to others.

Best Wishes Always

I was actually giving two websites by the switchboard in a e mail I sent them I tried the 1st one and their security check was a bit hard to figure out ( moving pictures) so I managed to sign. Up here and so far I have enjoyed been here.

Just clarify incase anyone in the us is wondering what
The switchboard is. It is a LGBT friendly helpline charity in the UK. That specialises with Gay or homosexual issues.

I have no actual answer to that, lol. I've taken massive long breaks. Half-year, year, sometimes more breaks from coming here. I don't even... I can't answer that. Other than the people. It's the people who make this place. Most of the time I feel very out of place here. Every time I come here it's like... there are the darlings of the site. Folks who... I don't even know. I just feel like... a dinosaur, living through the asteroid. Poking my nose in the air. But it's always the people. Because no matter what... this site always attracts the best people. The most inquisitive, quick witted (looking at you, Allie :P), gentlest and empathetic (Lori and Sarah B) people around. I feel like Captain America lol. But I am kind of glad. You are all the people who keep this place going. I am just someone who shows up occasionally to get on your nerves. ;P

Do not underestimate your contributions to this site. I have witnessed some of your interactions with new members who were having a tough time. Your soothing nature helped them, as evidenced by their response. You are just as valuable here as any of our regulars who do the same thing.

That is why we are here. We know what our new members are going through and we CAN help them. And you are one the first to jump in to help. That is pure gold, and you know that I know what pure gold is worth.  :-*

I don't agree with either of you but that doesn't matter. :)

Chrissy, you are the lifeblood of this site, you have been for a long time. You are like... the heart of Susan's. You keep this place beating by keeping people talking. Never, ever stop being you, okay? You are like... someone we all aspire to be. You are the best of us :) Lori... girl, you know how I feel already. Admiration is just a word. You are someone who comes along once in a lifetime. I am just grateful that this place will always be in good hands, no matter what. <3
