What are your favorite soups?
Do you make it, do you go out to eat to get it, is it from a can, does a friend make it, etc.?
In general, I don't care for soups. I find that they lack enough substance and two hours later I am hungry again. There are exceptions of course. Chili or bean and ham soups are filling. I used canned chili because I am lazy. My friend makes homemade bean and ham soup which is awesome. I learned the hard way to not have the bean/ham soup the day after I had chili. Too many beans, too close together. Not good for the environment (i.e. my small apartment). ;D
I love most varieties of soups.
Tonight my dinner after I came from work ....
Homemade Split Pea and ham soup (that I made earlier in the week) ....
and a Toasted ham and cheese sandwich.
Perfect for a cold evening... 5 deg(f) -15 deg C

I like tomato basil soup and some chicken soups.
I also enjoy a good, not too salty, with lots of melted cheese, French onion soup.
I have never considered chili to be a soup, it probably is, but I do like some really good chili.
I'm with Chrissy on the Tomato Basel and French Onion, I enjoy them both. I also enjoy a good lentil soup. A good lentil soup can be filling but like the "bean and ham", not good for the environment if enjoyed too close to chili.
After Thanksgiving I make a large hearty pot of turkey soup out of whats left on the bones. There's rice, barley, potatoes and pasta in it. Along with the onions, carrots, celery and spices. It's quit awhile before you're hungry after a bowl of this.

Oxtail, broccoli and Stilton, pea and ham, royal game are my favourites
I had some chicken pot pie soup. It was better than expected and quite filling.

Paulie,
That soup for sure looks like it can fill your tummy. I like celery and carrots but only when they are cooked and softer, as in a soup.

I don't normally do soups. I think it's a waste of a good meal slot. No one ever said they were full up because they ate soups. Most of the time, for me, it's just a drink in a bowl.
That being said... my mum used to do this thing where she'd get a Cornish pasty and put it in a bowl, surrounded by Oxtail soup. And it was extremely yummy. Soup tinted glasses, maybe.
Just one soup? There are so many good options but I suppose if I had to pick only one I would go with minestra maritata aka Italian wedding soup.
It's got a little of everything and is light yet filling.

You may pick more than one soup to mention.
Italian Wedding soup is really good. Thanks for reminding me Natalie.

Lobster Bisque and Clam Chowder.
There was a restaurant up at the Baltimore Harbor that had the best soup and crab legs. I remember working on a system for John Hopkins and getting lunch there several times that week.
I wish I could remember the name of the place.

The last time I had soup in a restaurant was on a business trip. We had a very large late lunch with the customer. That evening we got together without the customer for dinner but I was not ready to eat again. I didn't want to just sit there and drink while everyone ate, so I ordered the French onion soup. It was perfect, served with sour dough bread and melted cheese. I think there were more calories in the 2 beers I had with it.
Sometimes a drink in a bowl is all you need. (Not very often though).
