Title: Would you rather live too fast and furious or live slow and 'normal'?
Post by: Nero on January 16, 2008, 08:39:26 AM
I mean - live too fast where you go out there, do whatever you want, take whatever you want and everyday's a rollercoaster ride filled with twists and turns and challenges and probably die young.

Or - live at average pace with everything planned out - the 9 to 5er, the family, or something similar and live to a ripe old age?

Definetly the fast and furious. I want to have an interesting life with adventure and exploration around every corner. Then again, don't we get that by being us? ;)

But I wouldn't mind dieing young, i'd rather have that then die in diapers in a nursing home. :(

Good answer. ;)

Neither, modern life misses the fine points of life which makes it all worth while.

I find this statement rather interesting and wish to know more. Please elaborate.
Do you mean that before our time, life was finer?

You don't give us much choice, Nero.

I've never planned my life.  I've had tons of jobs and uprooted and moved on a moment's notice.

But as far as pace itself goes, I live life at a leisurely pace.  I always have free time.

Renate

Hi Renate. Guess what I really mean is living a crazy life rather than one considered 'normal'.

Um, I've been living in a car for the last five years.  That is normal, isn't it?

Renate

Nope. But I lived out of hotels for the greater percentage of my adult life and slept in my car for a time. So yeah, convential housing is overrated.

During the Renaissance the intelligentsia was blooming. People used the whole mind. Today is sort of the dark ages in self understanding. Where is the distillation?, as Keats knew it.  All we have now is New Age BS.

I'm 'getting old,' a whole lot older than I'd ever thought I'd be. And sure as heck not willing to 'go' anytime soon. How 'bout old and lively?

Speaking of living out of cars. I remember reading somewhere that given a choice between paying mortgage and paying your car payment to pay for the car. You can live in your car, but cannot drive your house to work.

It is very hard to get a job without an address.

I would love to live fast and die young, achieve loads - die at thirty.
But I am living slowly, so I might as well enjoy it.
Living slowly and die young, now that'd be bad.

They used to say "A rolling stone gathers no moss." but those cute little sayings were wiped off the face of the planet with the MTV generation.
Sigh~

Pedal to the metal, full speed ahead, as a crew shirt I have from the month where we did 30 shows in 31 days - I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Neither actually..
I don't think life's about tempo.

To "live" is to do what you love, in my book. Not about doing lots, or taking your time with each thing, but simply, enjoying yourself.

I suppose fast (or at least furious) is the way I chose, as the current vehicle is a 1986 Red Chevy Camaro.
(She's only a V6 and I can actually do some of the work myself)
I'll post a pic when I can.
Hugs~

I vote for a nice mix of both.

For me, slow and easy.  What is normal anyway?  Enjoy each day to the fullest.  Stop and smell the roses along the way.  Enjoy a beautiful sunset with someone you love.

Fast and furious?  Ride hard, live hard, die young, leave a good looking corpse?  No Thank you.

I have lived in a field, because I had no where else to go.  Washed up in a restroom to look for work and sold plasma to eat.  I would rather just go thru life at a comfortable pace.

I would rather make like an eagle and soar (with the chance of getting sucked into a jet engine) then weasel my way through life :P

(how's that for a reversal of the saying?)

Like every other either/or problem in life, the question is fundamentally flawed.

This is not a dichotomy.  You don't have to be a Vin Diesel movie, nor do you have to be a turtle.

Look at the cheetah.  It is one of the fastest creatures on earth.  Yet it waits patiently for the opportunity to strike.  It is fast and furious, yet it waits in cold calculating contemplation.  If it ran all the time, it would wear itself out.  If it never ran at all, its muscles would waste away.

This is the problem with philosophical questions:  they rarely reflect real world physics.  In trying to simplify life, hypothetical questions eliminate the very thing that makes life what it is.

I'd hardly say that that is the problem with philosophical questions, but more a problem with poorly worded hypotheticals.

As I mature slow and normal appears to be more attractive.
But I've no regrets with the fast and furious way I embraced in my youth.
regrets are to be avoided at all costs
