PARK CITY, UTAH — Introducing his new musical "Kiss of the Spider Woman" at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday night, director Bill Condon read a line from a speech made earlier this month — specifically, President Donald Trump's inaugural address.

"'As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,'" Condon read, adding, "That's a sentiment, I think you'll see, that the movie has a different point of view on."

Jennifer Lopez, who stars in the wild, old-Hollywood-style musical, echoed the director's...

"I think the thing about the movie that I love the most is that it tells ... the importance of love and just seeing each other as human beings and how love can shorten the gap of any divide between people," she said. "We could just look at each other as individuals, as people, as human beings, and not worry about who you like, who you don't like, what your political beliefs are. It doesn't matter."

Lopez has previously discussed her "nibling" (a gender-neutral term for "niece" and "nephew"), Brendon, who is transgender, while sharing a short film made in collaboration with the Trevor Project based on Brendon's coming out story, in 2020.
