"The anti-trans rhetoric and violence against me and others in our community have escalated since the election," Ash Lazarus Orr (he/they) told LGBTQ Nation. "I've dealt with a stalker, death threats, physical and verbal assaults, including at the state capitol."
He doesn't want to leave their home state of West Virginia, but he doesn't feel like he has a choice. Orr, an organizer and activist who works for Advocates for Trans Equality, is trans. He has witnessed the place he grew up become increasingly hostile to trans people like them, and with the election of Donald Trump, feels like he no longer has a choice.
Independent journalist Erin Reed has listed Florida and Texas as "do not travel" states due to laws that call for either the arrest or bounty of trans people using bathrooms different than those assigned to their gender at birth.
"I would not choose, in a vacuum, to travel to most of the South, a lot of the Midwest."
"We want anti-trans politicians and their allies to understand that trans people are not the enemy. We are your friends, neighbors, and family members. We work in your schools, hospitals, and businesses, and we organize and volunteer in our communities. Like everyone else, we simply want to live our lives with freedom, dignity, and respect."
Wow, Jessica Rose! It has only been 12 days since the inauguration. I mean, seriously, how much pain are we the American people prepared to endure before we begin to stand up to our tyrannical government? We are no longer dealing with a US President; we are now dealing with a US Tyrant.
This is not what I sacrificed years of my life in the US Army to defend. Just because the election is behind us does not in any way suggest that we have no say in how our immediate future unfolds.

Our community and our allies are significantly outnumbered by the number of people who are either pushing for these changes, or who simply don't care. Even my dad, who supported me, was eager to see this new administration come to power. Hopefully the next election cycle will help, but we're going to have a rough few years. Find your support structures, and batten down the hatches.

I'm trying really hard to not say anything about this because I am very opinionated on the subject, as you probably know.
I will bite my tongue, other than to say thank you for your service, Miharu and Lori, and everyone else who served to fight for the ideals this cretin and his cronies want to put in the trash. And... the majority of people who did vote for him... you deserve everything you get. He didn't seize power. Which is the saddest thing, and shows just how broken a lot of people are.
The dude didn't even want to attend a remembrance service for fallen heroes because it was raining, last time you voted him in. That's the limits of his compassion towards those who spilled blood in the pursuit of what is right.

I just find it so sad that the millions of lives you folks in the US gave to fight against Hitler and Mussolini, now you vote these people into your highest offices.
