Transgender people have been officially banned from joining the US Army as Donald Trump's executive order has started to take effect.
The army has confirmed that it will no longer permit trans individuals to join the military and will halt any gender reassignment procedures for members.
In a statement online, the US Army's official account wrote: "The #USArmy will no longer allow transgender individuals to join the military and will stop performing or facilitating procedures associated with gender transition for service members."
Noting that the changes would be "effective immediately", all new "accessions for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused".
The army added that "all unscheduled, scheduled, or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for Service members are paused".
The change has followed a series of orders signed by the President to revamp the US Army, which includes banning transgender people from enlisting.
