Trans athlete bill fails in Minnesota House; here's how St. Cloud politicians voted

Story by Corey Schmidt, St. Cloud Times (4 March 2025)

Minnesota House Republicans failed to garner 68 votes to approve a bill that would ban transgender athletes from participating in women's sports.

If approved, the proposal would only allow women and girls who have a female reproductive system to particulate in women's sports, according to the drafted bill.

Scott's proposal concerned some DFLers, such as Wolgamott, who claim it could put women in the uncomfortable situation to prove their gender identity or submit to a screening.

"Subjecting children to random genital inspections does not protect or enrich girls' spots — it empowers unseemly bullying and harassment," Wolgamott said.

The bill hit home for Wolgamott, who is a father and former college athlete himself. He said he thought of his own children when taking the vote, saying he worries about the consequences the bill could have on children across the state.

"I would never vote for a bill that subject my daughters or yours to this invasive, inappropriate and downright obscene violation of their bodies," he said.

If there were a dispute about a student's gender, a GOP release states the proposed bill would require a student to present a signed physician's statement proving their sex. The statement would be based on their internal and external anatomy, natural testosterone levels and an analysis of their chromosomes.

Wow, school physicals would change dramatically. Including genetic and hormone level testing.
Glad it was shot down. No child should be forced to undergo any of that just to go to school (which is mandatory).
