Title: Vaginal odor
Post by: Gina P on March 12, 2025, 03:53:06 PM
So for those who this might help, being 9 months post op I have been experiencing an increasing unpleasant odor. I was using Astro glide jell for my dilation. Changed to a cheap Equate brand and smell is totally gone.

Was the difference that one was silicone-based and the other water-based? Equate is water-based, but AstroGlide has both types.

Dear Gina:

As Lori mentioned... make very certain that you use ONLY a Water Based lubricant.

Good to reiterate.  My GP suggests the same, for any related need.  Water based.

The Astroglide was water based, but wow what odor. I once dilated in the car while my wife, drove and she said she was getting sick from the smell. Smelled like a dead animal, she said. I thought it smelled like poo. Any way all good now. I hope this helps someone else.

So an update. Smell came back and cleared up again. I started using wipes before and after dilating. Seams to help. Made an appointment with my surgeon who examined me, and assured me that everything was ok. Of course there was zero odor that day. He said it was normal to experience it once and a while due to stress or exercise. Perhaps it wasn't Astroglide after all.
