The White House is assuring Republicans that Dr. Oz is now transphobic

After a Republican senator questioned whether television personality Mehmet Oz is too supportive of trans people's existence to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – a position he was appointed to by the president – the White House is assuring people that Oz will help "put an end to left-wing ideological nonsense afflicting our government."

The Senate Finance Committee voted to advance Oz's nomination in a party-line vote yesterday, but not before Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) sent him a letter demanding he explain a pro-trans episode of The Dr. Oz Show that aired ten years ago.

Trans reality TV personality and author Jazz Jennings appeared on that show and Oz complimented her mother for being supportive.

"I love the support you've given your daughter," Oz said. "It's wonderful. And you can see the beautiful young woman she's becoming because of it."

That was years before opposing trans equality would become a defining position of the Republican Party – the wave of state laws attacking trans rights started in 2021 – and years before Oz, who ran for Senate in 2022, would get involved in Republican politics.

"Have your views on this issue changed since you hosted your television show?" Hawley's letter demands of Oz. "Do you support President Trump's position that gender transition procedures for minors should be banned?"

The White House, though, is assuring conservatives that Oz does not support trans people.

Jeez. I do not know who this person is. And I kind of find it questionable that media personalities be put in positions of important stuff that affects potentially millions of peoples' lives. Linda McMahon being in charge of Education is wild to me. But that kind of seems to be the way Trump wants to operate.

The republicans seem to be very... spineless and nasty. From an outside point of view. All scared of anything that may offend their mango messiah. It's really... weird. Like reality TV on a countrywide scale.

If this was a TV show, no one would watch it because it is too implausible.

I dunno, the people who would watch it are likely the people who would vote for him. Plausibility is kind of irrelevant, lol. ;D Probably how we've got to where we are.

People watch all kinds of horrific shows with fascination, this is no different. Reality TV, Soap Operas, Shock TV Talk shows .. all exemplify outrageousness. Too many have become insensitive and it's led to normalization of deviance.

They watch with rapt attention rather than act against. It's always the minority that suffers. "As long as it's not me" is the silent mantra.

"Reform always comes from below. The man with four aces never asks for a new deal.

Caveat: A Smith & Wesson beats four aces."

He ran for a US Senator position here in PA several years ago and didn't get past the primary. His positions sway with the political winds unfortunately, as do many.
