gosh i dont think i will be posting much on here, i spent an hour on my introduction filled out the silly verification and all the rest of it only to be told i did not have permission to post my intro, no pictures or any words were used that may offend, i find it very off putting when putting in time only to find right at the end a rejection
@kat2Dear Kat2:I am so very sorry that you are having difficulty posting your Introduction... the fact that you
could submit your first posting here indicates that all is OK with your account. If you
copied your introduction draft please try posting it again or at the very least try posting a
brief alternate introduction to verify that it can be posted.
Please note that the "silly verification" that you mentioned is just a temporary measure for new members.
Until you achieve 15 postings you will not be able to send Forum Private messages or upload
an Avatar/Profile photo but you should be able to freely post around the various topics and
threads around the Forum.
If you continue to have difficulties using and posting on the Forum you can please contact
me directly via my private Email at alaskandanielle@yahoo.com
I am very happy to have you here on the Susan's Place Forum. Wishing you a WARM WELCOME

Welcome to Susan's, Kat!
Please try again with your introduction. We are always interested in meeting new members and learning what brought them here. We look forward to seeing you around the forums.
Hi Kat,
As a new member, I can relate to the difficulties you're having. I, too, considered moving on from Susan's Place after registering twice and not being able to post anything in INTRODUCTIONS. One of the best decisions I've made recently was to keep on keeping on long enough to meet so many wonderful people inside this site. Welcome, Kat.
Hi Kat,
There are some beginner restrictions, but the admins will explain what they are and when they'll be lifted.
It's great to have you here, welcome to Susan's!

I doubt it was anything you did, hon. If I may suggest what the issue might have been, it's an issue that catches me out sometimes, too. When you log in using the "log in" box at the top of the site, the pop up box which appears for you to put in your account name and password... below that is a "Time to stay logged in" box. And that defaults to 1 hour. You can change that but it might have been that you didn't know, or just didn't think about it (something I do all the time).
In which case, after an hour the site will log you out and when you try to post, it will tell you that you don't have permission to post in the board you were trying to post in because guests don't have posting permissions. That seems likely what happened if you spent the time trying to work out what you wanted to post.
You can change the "Time to stay logged in" option to a greater period of time from the drop down list in the box, and that will keep the site from logging you out after an hour.
I really hope this hasn't put you off, honey. You're more than welcome here. I still get caught out by that sometimes and I've been here like 17 years at this point. :embarrassed:
*big hugs*
Quote from: Sephirah on March 29, 2025, 02:34:07 PMYou can change the "Time to stay logged in" option to a greater period of time from the drop down list in the box, and that will keep the site from logging you out after an hour.
I have been caught by that too. Now I choose to stay logged in for a month. You can still log out via your profile link in the top-left corner, or just close your browser and the site will log you out.
If I can give you a tip I've learned from this happening to me far more than it should... press the back button on your browser when you get the failed permission screen, and it will go back to your posting window, complete with your post in the text box.
From there, you can just Ctrl A + Ctrl C your post, and put it into a word processor or even just Notepad. This is even more important if you spend a lot of time trying to word a post just how you want it. Then, close the tab of the site to prevent a session verification error (Susans doesn't like you trying to log into the site when you already have the site open in another tab), re-open it again, log in again, make a new post and just paste in your old one.
It works, trust me. :)
Hi KatMy name is
Sarah B and I would also like to formally, Welcome you to Susan's Place!
I see that other members of Susan's have also welcomed you as well and they are asking you to please stay, especially a couple of new members.
You mentioned in your short introduction

I'm sorry that you have had so much trouble in introducing yourself. The last thing you need is 'trouble from a forum' where you need help from other members with similar problems that you have mentioned in that introduction that you lost, or did you save an offline copy?
Two members Sephirah and Lori have mentioned what might and more than likely what has happened to you.

Even I have been caught out doing tasks and only to find out I have been kicked out and on a couple of occasions, I have lost a long reply. However that does not occur anymore as I write virtually all my stuff offline. Then I post the reply and format it accordingly.
So please come back and post the introduction you wanted to post. I would certainly like to read and reply to it.
Once you feel comfortable here, it would be appreciated if you add a little bit more about yourself in the other forums and threads. I would appreciate it very much as, I'm always interested in learning something new about new members
In addition members of Susan's will more than likely will discuss problems or issues that are similar to yours as most have experienced these issues as well.
Take care and all the best for the future.

Welcome aboard Kat2!...
I'm sorry this happened... I know it is so frustrating to put the time in to writing something and then have an issue... I am sure the snag is easily remedied in the big scheme of things and I hope you didn't let it dissuade you from participating here... There are a lot of good folks here to share with, laugh with, learn and grow with...
Hope to see you around here!
Ashley 💕
Hi Kat Sephirah has just given a good description on what to do when you think you have lost stuff. I have used this often, when something happens. So extremely good advice.

Yes Sephirah both posts are really good, also Lori your post was good advice.

Sarah is the queen of deeply thought out, carefully worded posts. She chooses what she wants to say with care and deliberation. I don't feel quite so dumb to know this happens to her also, lol.

I also don't feel quite so dumb to know this happens and I learn from her, when she does.

I fully support this statement 😀👍
No, stop! You can't do that!
Sarah and Ashley are like... if you ever wanted two sisters who would watch out for you and watch your back. Make you better than you think you can be. These girls are your go to.
I do not do well with compliments! I love you but I respectfully disagree. :P
Welcome Kat. Sephirah, Lori and Sarah gave good advice abount avoiding losing work. To summarise, I would say login "Forever" (don't worry, you can logout at any time) and if you are writing a long post, write it into a text file and copy it into the post when you are ready.
If your browser has a "recently closed tabs" option in the history, that also sometimes helps.
@MaryT Dear Mary:
I do the same thing... I always login "Forever" ... you don't have to log out because you will
automatically be logged out when you close your browser or shut off your computer or device.
HUGS, Danielle[Northern Star Girl]

Lol, the funny thing about that is, when I was a big noob to the site, way back in the 2000s, I logged in mainly from work. And assumed if I didn't log out, I would be online for everyone to see even when I was at home. I was terrified of still being online even though I'd done an Elvis and left the building, like people would try to message me and I would be seen as ignorant for not replying back at 2am. :P Dumb I know, but such was my ignorance at that point. ;D
Hi Sephirah Quote from: Sephirah on March 29, 2025, 04:40:16 PMNo, stop! You can't do that!
No, sorry, I'm not going to stop and yes, I can do that and there is nothing you can do about it, with love, of course!

Kat, Sephirah is another sister who will take you under her angel wings and will endow you with her wisdom, kindness and love.

Well, it's about time you accepted compliments from your sisters. There is nothing wrong in doing so. You may feel humbled and embarrassed, but you deserve them unconditionally. Yes, I love you too, so you will have to put up with them, whether you like them or not!
In regards to your "I respectfully disagree," I'm going to disagree with your disagree!

You're a sweetheart, Sarah. Genuinely. This girl knows what she thinks and whether she agrees or disagrees with you, she is an Aussie Sheila through and through. You always know why you are where you are with her. She respects everyone. Which is indicative of the staff of the site, honestly. It has been through a few different phases over the years... but these days... Susan's staff are more approachable than ever.
Largely, I think, due to everyone's favourite Aurora Daniellis. <3

I second Sephirah. I've had the same trouble multiple times and deal with it by writing posts in a text editor before pasting it in. That way if the timer runs down and I don't notice, I don't lose the post. I think she's got your problem in one.
The other issue I had here was getting the SMF software here to send me a confirmation email when I registered an account. I'm not sure how many people have had the same experience, but I had to try half a dozen emails before I found one that it would post a response to. Perhaps the system was broken when I tried?
But whatever, it wasn't the best first experience you could have had of Susan's, Kat, but you're with us now and everyone's happy to help as you can see!

We would very much like to read your introduction.
Chrissy
Sometimes things just do not work out the way you expect them to.
So try again.
Chrissy
P.S. if you ever are typing anything long, do a COPY of what you been typing every so often, even put it in a file on your device, so if you somehow get dropped from your connection here you can get your words and PASTE them into another post.
This is a good practice for any Web site when you are posting longer things, as it can save you from some aggravation and save you time.
Chrissy
We have lots of good things to share with others here, so do come back often.
Do what the moderators suggest as for reading, as those can answers many FAQs. It really does not take much time.
Hugs,
Chrissy
